The Championship truly is the gift that keeps on giving.

We've seen the lead at the top change hands for the 27th time this season with Leeds springing from third to first courtesy of a win at in-form Middlesbrough.

Burnley are only behind on goal difference after a point, and another clean sheet, at Derby while Sheffield United are enduring a nightmare week after following their defeat at Oxford with a home loss against Millwall.

Bristol City took a giant stride towards the play-offs with a 96th-winnute winner against West Brom while at the other end last-gasp goals from Luton and Cardiff have seen things tighten up in the basement battle once more, with five games remaining.

Thanks for your company this evening, now rest up, we'll be back here in 20 hours to do it all over again for the remaining three fixtures in the second tier...

    Goodnight!

  2. Blades punished for 'lack of quality'published at 22:59 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Sheff Utd 0-1 Millwall

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"It's been a tough couple of games for us, we didn't do enough on Saturday and paid the price and just shot ourselves in the foot really.

"The first goal is massive in this division. The goal, from our point of view, there were so many things we could have done better to prevent that.

"I thought the energy from the team was good, we've created enough opportunities [and] we've got the ball where we wanted to get it.

"We've had 25 shots but really when you're looking for that little bit of quality that you need, when we got into those positions we never really found it and fair play to Millwall.

"The quality that we do possess has gone missing tonight at the top of the pitch."

On the automatic promotion race: "I don't think anybody would have thought that we'd have lost the last two games but we've done that so we have to suffer and to own that and take that on the chin.

"I think I've got enough characters and quality in that group to get us back into a winning run, but it has to come soon and it has to come on Saturday [at Plymouth Argyle].

  3. 'We deserved to win it'published at 22:58 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Sheff Utd 0-1 Millwall

    Millwall

Millwall boss Alex Neil speaking to BBC Radio London:

"I thought we deserved it. I think if you look at the clearest chances in the game they fell to us.

"You do know that coming here you are going to have to take bits of pressure and see those bits out. You're going to have to rely on your keeper sometimes and defend well, but that's why Sheffield United have won more games than anyone else in this division so far.

"So we knew it was going to be a tough game but we came with a game plan, I thought the lads executed it brilliantly, I thought we created some really good chances in the game for ourselves. We probably should have scored maybe two in the second half, even three, when you saw how clear cut they were.

"Unfortunately we couldn't put it to bed, which meant we had to put our bodies on the line right to the last second.

"Great performance from us. [I'm] really delighted with how the players are doing at the moment, their application, not even just the starting XI but every single one that comes on the pitch."

  4. 'Overall it's a point gained'published at 22:55 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Derby 0-0 Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It's a tough place to come. It's a team fighting for their lives.

"They cause you problems with the way they play; they put the ball in areas constantly and get you running back towards tour own goal and I thought we coped with that really well.

"We started the game electric and really took a foothold in the game for 35 minutes.

"At the back end of the first half they caused us problems from long throws and set plays; that was the main message. We had to be resilient in those moments as it becomes a 50-50 game from long throws and set plays.

"We defended exceptionally well and overall it's a point gained and another clean sheet."

    On Lyle Foster:

"Lyle has damaged his shoulder and it doesn't look good. He'll have a scan tomorrow."

  5. 'Game won in one action'published at 22:53 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Watford 1-0 Hull City

    Hull City

Hull City manager Ruben Selles told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We were competitive enough, the game was won in one action, they had a little bit more quality into the final third.

"We gave up pressure too easily for their goal, and we defended out of structure. We can do much better tracking the runner.

"We have got a lot of good situations in the last few months. We didn't get the results today, but we have not been inconsistent. The league is very competitive.

"The players are dealing with [the relegation battle] as well as they can do it. I do not see a team, or a player, that cannot deal with this situation."

  6. Cleverley 'proud' as Watford kickstart play-off pushpublished at 22:51 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Watford 1-0 Hull City

    Watford

Watford manager Tom Cleverley told BBC 3CR:

"I am super, super proud this evening of a group of really inexperienced players, really maturely seeing out a game, determined to win the game, and lead by their captain [Moussa Sissoko], who was outstanding all night.

"Until [the play-offs] is mathematically out of the question, we will keep pushing for it.

"For us, the next game is the only one we focus on. I want to show progress, I want this group to get back on an upward trajectory. We've equalled last year's points tally.

"If sixth is that upward curve, that's almost a miracle, but if that's eighth, or ninth, we want to finish the season strongly."

  7. 'We should have seen them off'published at 22:49 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Stoke 1-1 Luton Town

    Stoke City

Stoke City boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke:

"We're disappointed and, at the end of the day, Luton are celebrating as they haven't lost.

"But we should still have seen them off. We'd dealt with everything, we'd scored and we should have got it done.

"There's still a long way to go and we now have to be ready to go again."

  8. 'The best away performance we've put in'published at 22:46 British Summer Time 8 April

FT: Stoke City 1-1 Luton Town

    Luton Town

Luton boss Matt BloomfieldImage source, Rex Features

Luton Town boss Matt Bloomfield told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"That was the best away performance we've put in since I became Luton Town manager.

"It would have been very unfair if we had been beaten by a deflected goal. A draw was the very least we deserved.

"It was a great strike from Milly [Millencic Alli]. We knew from his time at Exeter that he can shoot with both feet."

  9. 'Making the play-offs is a great achievement'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Norwich 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris reacts to the 0-0 draw with Norwich.

After a point secured their place in the top-six this season, Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris told BBC Radio Newcastle:

“It’s a great achievement for the team, the staff and the club, so it’s nice to be in the play-offs and have another purpose.

“We earned this opportunity and now it’s important to manage the squad properly, to give some minutes to the youngest players so they can learn from experiences, and for the others who have played many games so far, it will be an opportunity to find the right balance, to be in good shape and refresh when necessary.

“In the first half we were too reserved, but after 30 minutes it was a little bit better, and during half-time we spoke about the boldness we had to have, away against a strong team, and it was better in the second half.”

  10. 'On another day we might have won it'published at 22:41 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Derby 0-0 Burnley

    Derby County

Derby County boss John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby:

"I am very proud of the group - and the fans. We went toe to toe against a very good team and on another day we could have nicked a winner.

"The lads are very well drilled. We kept our concentration for 95 minutes. Every player on the pitch did their jobs. We showed we are together against a very good team.

"It took us 20 minutes to get into the game; we were a bit nervous. But as soon as we adjusted a few things with our shape we were on the front foot and we finished the first half very strong.

"In the second half, we competed really well and limited Burnley to nothing, really. And, on another day, maybe Clarkey could have nicked a winner."

  11. 'We are bitterly disappointed not to get anything'published at 22:39 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Middlesbrough 0-1 Leeds

    Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick told Sky Sports: “We are bitterly disappointed not to get anything from the game.

“They are a quality team who have got good individuals who have got real quality, but I thought we were really good.

“It was a bad start, obviously it put us in a tough position, but I thought we responded positively.

“The second half we built on it, created so many opportunities across the box, pinned them back and then we couldn’t find that extra little moment.

"We didn’t defend the middle of the pitch [For the goal], we let them come straight through the middle of the pitch from the back, which was exactly what we didn’t want to do, there is a slip, but they took their moment.”

  12. 'Somebody has to block it'published at 22:35 British Summer Time 8 April

FT: Bristol City 2-1 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

    Tony MowbrayImage source, Getty Images

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio WM:

“I can’t keep repeating the same things. We have to find a way, I’ve just vented a bit of frustration, I feel as if it can’t happen, they can’t score in the 96th minute, even though we’re a man down we’ve still got nine outfield players in that box.

“Somebody has to block it, somebody has to get their body there. It’s a frustration because I think if anybody was going to win it before the sending off it was us.

"We were in the ascendancy, their crowd had gone quiet, we were dominating the ball, we had an amazing chance to score and win it with a couple of them in the last 15 minutes and to lose it.

"Is cruel the right word? It seems ridiculous to me but we have and we have to accept it and move on."

  13. 'Pleased with the overall attitude'published at 22:31 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Norwich City 0-0 Sunderland

    Norwich City

Norwich head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup told BBC Radio Norfolk:

“We hoped for a win and did more than enough, especially in the first half, to get it. I’m pleased with our first half dominance. We didn’t allow one shot and we created enough to score.

“I’m not satisfied that we didn’t convert some of those moments into goals, and the second half was a little bit more open and they were probably a little bit on top in the last 10 minutes.

“We have been talking a lot about (clean sheets) this season and what it takes to do that away from home and against the better teams in the league, and what it takes to convert those chances into more goals, so there’s a lot of work to do in the future.

“But I’m pleased with the overall attitude of the players.”

  14. 'Our lads found a way'published at 22:30 British Summer Time 8 April

    FT: Middlesbrough 0-1 Leeds

    Leeds United

    Leeds UnitedImage source, Rex Features

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke told Sky Sports: “It was crucial today to return back to a clean sheet. Especially in the last few games we have conceded too many goals.

"We knew that we were going to be playing a red hot, in form Middlesbrough side who want to be structured against the ball.

“It was important to have many periods where we controlled the game. We were so dangerous on the counter attacks, scored a fantastic goal. No, sorry, we scored three goals.

"Normally when two regular goals are disallowed, you don’t win such a hard away game, but our lads found a way.

“I have to be a bit careful, I normally stay on the side of referees as they have an unbelievably hard job to do but I am a bit lost for words. The same linesman who within eight weeks has denied us three goals; at Coventry, at Millwall and today.

"I wouldn’t say they are the most difficult decisions, so why send him to Leeds United matches?”

    Bristol City

    Bristol CityImage source, Getty Images

Bristol City manager Liam Manning has been speaking to BBC Radio Bristol after his side clinched a last-gasp win against play-off rivals West Brom.

“We’ve been on the other end of a few of those this season so to come away scoring so late and picking up three points in an important game is a great feeling and probably a memory that will stick with a few of the lads and fans I’m sure – a terrific evening.

“Top energy, top atmosphere and a top performance. Up to their goal I thought we were excellent. The bravery to play, the quality, the way we went through them at times and there was a real purpose to our play which I really enjoyed and credit to the lads for that.

“To let them back in against the run of play you just get a major momentum shift, you allow them back in through us and it flips and they get the momentum and go on top.

"We stuck at it, we kept believing, we kept fighting, we kept running, we kept being brave and we got the rewards at the end.”
