Dan (2141). this isn't the same as Klopp's Liverpool. City have enjoyed years of success across the board, as opposed to Klopp's 'legacy' which Slot is making a mockery of. They're not blaming other teams or referees or kick off times, they're owning their poor form. It just feels like the end of an era, which is inevitable after years of unrivalled sustained success. Agree they will be back though.

  4. 'Saka is loved by everybody and makes the difference on the pitch'published at 22:30 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December

    FT: Arsenal 3-0 Monaco

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sport: "Very happy. Obviously scoring the three goals, keeping a clean sheet and winning the game.

"We started the game very well, in the first half we should have put the game to bed but we didn't. In the Champions League you will have difficult moments and we suffered but then with the second goal the game was in control."

On scoring three goals from open play: "Very good, especially because they were very different goals. That's what we want, from every phase of play to be a threat. We could have scored many goals from open play but anyway very happy."

On Myles Lewis-Skelly: "A word for Myles - 18-years-old and to make his debut in the Champions League is a great highlight of the game.

"What I like about him is his courage, the position he takes, how he penetrates with the ball. He's one of our own, he has a bright future ahead of him. As a club and a manager we have to be happy with him coming through. It is a great feeling to be able to change someone's life."

On his substitutions: "We had some issues, they put six players inside with only the full-backs giving the width. They had a lot of rotation which was difficult to manage that. I think the subs helped us, they gave us energy and helped with the structure. Everybody is important, every three days it's impossible to keep the same players."

On Bukayo Saka: "He looks really mature. What he has already done in the game at his age is incredible. Very humble, a great guy to have around and an incredible talent.

"He's a special person. In his role his leadership is increasing. With the young kids he is amazing, with the seniors he is amazing. He is loved by everybody and he makes the difference on the pitch."

    FT: Arsenal 3-0 Monaco

    Arsenal

Arsenal double scorer Bukayo Saka to TNT Sport on teenage defender Myles Lewis-Skelly: "I just said to him 'this is his level', he needs to have no doubts, play the game and have the confidence. We see what he's doing in training. We are pleased for him and he played a key part in the first goal.

"He just needs to keep going. I'm just so proud of him."

On nearly completing his first Arsenal hat-trick: "Kai [Havertz] just got in the way of it but it's coming, don't worry."

Gunners defender Myles Lewis-Skelly on his involvement in the first goal: "I saw the ball getting switched from Martin [Odegaard]. I was getting pressed and I just thought 'keep calm' and take the ball away from the man. I saw Gabi [Jesus] pulling off and played him through and then great finish from Bukayo. He's always there."

On his first Champions League start: "I'm proud of myself. I believe in myself but I've come a long way. I want to thank everyone for this opportunity. Hopefully this is the first of many."

On taking inspiration from Saka: "Looking up to Bukayo, he has that mindset, he has everything. I've learned a lot from him and I want to keep learning."

  9. 'I feel like we know exactly what's going wrong'published at 22:23 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December

    Juventus 2-0 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan speaking to TNT Sports: "It’s very disappointing. We had chances to score a few goals but at the moment it feels like every attack we concede is just so dangerous.

"I don’t know, I have a feeling sometimes we are a bit careless with duels, instead of playing simple we overcomplicate things and we missed the right timing to release the ball. Just lose the ball and give them counter attacks.

"We are built for possession, keep the ball, be strong, if you can’t do anything don't lose it. At the moment it’s not working out for us."

On confidence: ”It’s a big part of it and obviously that's a mental issue as well. You can see that. We sometimes, one action we miss the ball, lose a duel and you see that we drop immediately, lose the rhythm, they are able to break our rhythm with the easiest of things. They don't even need to do much.

"You have to do the simple things as good as possible. Work hard again, this is how you get confidence back, even in the game if you miss something, by doing small and simple things you get confidence back at the moment we are always doing the wrong things.

"I feel like we know exactly what's going wrong. If you look at the most part of games even today we actually didn’t play bad, created chances, just missed to score, in these kind of games if you give away once chance it's not easy to bounce back.

"We know what's going wrong it's just finding the switch to turn things around because even though we are not getting results, it doesn't feel like we are far off.

"As long as we don't find that click it's going to be tough, the only thing right now we can do, every single player needs to question themselves, to do better, how the player can individually sacrifice more to contribute to the team so we can get collectively back on our way."

    FT: Juventus 2-0 Manchester City

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The saddest thing about Manchester City tonight is 'are you really shocked?' I'm not completely shocked.

The way they have been playing recently, the tiredness, we know about the injuries, playing players he'd rather rest.

At the moment it's just hell on hell for Manchester City supporters. They look to me like a team that is not capable of doing it at the intensity they need to do it, at the top level to win these games week after week.
