Everton face Doncaster in the Carabao Cup tonight in what could be striker Neal Maupay's final match during a dismal few years on Merseyside.

When asked by BBC Sport about the prospects of the Frenchman, 28, leaving Goodison Park, Sean Dyche said: "He's had a real tough run at Everton Football Club.

"They know that, he knows that, we have to wait if something new comes for him or see if he stays here and see what he can give us but he has had a tough run at Everton Football Club."

Maupay was among the players filmed getting abused by a couple of supporters while returning on the train from a 4-0 defeat at Tottenham to Liverpool.

"Imagine another job where it's normalised to get abuse like this.

"Hanging around at a train station to scream at men who are trying their best," he said on social media platform X.

Adam Lallana, who joined Southampton in the summer could be set to return from injury, Southampton boss Russell Martin said, "Adam Lallana is back in the squad."

Martin, added: "Ross Stewart is back in full training, so hopefully we see him playing in the next couple of weeks.

"Kamaldeen is back. We'll have to wait and see what happens and how he reacts in training. But we're close to having a full clean bill of health."

Martin on Southampton's season-long loan Lesley Ugochukwu: "He needs to be the king in the middle of the pitch.

"It will be great for him to be on the pitch rather than just at training being pushed around and told where to go."

Aston Villa forward Samuel Iling-Junior has joined Serie A side Bologna on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old England Under-21 international only joined the Midlands club from Juventus last month in a double deal with Argentine midfielder Enzo Barrenechea worth 22m euros (£18.6m).

That deal was announced the day after Douglas Luiz signed for Juventus from Villa for £42.35m.

Iling-Junior featured for Villa in pre-season but was not included in the squad for their first two games of the campaign.

He was part of Chelsea's academy before joining Juventus' youth team and made his senior debut in May 2022.

The forward scored two goals in 45 appearances for the Turin club.

Chelsea and Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to complete his medical after agreeing a season-long loan deal with Bournemouth.

This move comes after the 29-year-old extended his contract at Stamford Bridge until 2026.

The extension was put in place so Chelsea could avoid losing him on a free transfer at the end of the loan deal, with his previous contract expiring next June.

The move is expected to end Bournemouth’s interest in Arsenal no2 Aaron Ramsdale and could see Mark Travers leave the club before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Kepa made 20 appearances on loan at Real Madrid last season, winning the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Al Nassr will "probably" be his last club before he retires.

The Portugal international, 39, joined the Saudi Pro League side in January 2023 after leaving Manchester United.

He had been linked with a return to Sporting Lisbon, where he began his career.

But he told Portuguese TV channel Now: "I don't know if I will retire soon, in two or three years, but probably I will retire here at Al Nassr.

"I'm happy at this club, I feel good in this country too. I'm happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue."

  12. Ronaldo could attend Champions League drawpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 27 August

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

UEFA has confirmed it will honour Cristiano Ronaldo at Thursday's Champions League draw.

Ronaldo scored an incredible 141 goals in the competition, for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, putting him 12 clear of Lionel Messi and an amazing 47 ahead of Robert Lewandowski, who is third on the all-time list and the only player in the top six currently playing in Europe.

It is thought Ronaldo is likely to be present in Monaco on Thursday to receive his award from UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the Champions League constellation," said Ceferin.

"His extraordinary goal-scoring achievements in the competition seem destined to stand the test of time, posing a remarkable challenge for future generations to surpass.

"His sustained excellence at the highest level is a testament to his relentless pursuit of both team and individual honours."

Ronaldo has won the Champions League five times and finished top scorer in the competition on seven occasions.

Created in consultation with medical and legal professionals, they cover three main topics offering advice for players, their support teams and regulatory processes.

They offer clubs an improved insight into how to manage returning mothers and the step-by-step processes they should take in training, recovery and their return to play.

Areas addressed include breastfeeding, sleep hygiene, nutrition, mental health, methods of delivery, pelvic health and exercise programmes.
