Match Facts

  • This will be just the fourth meeting between Atlético Madrid and Internazionale in all competitions – the Spaniards won 2-0 in the 2010 UEFA Super Cup in Monaco before the pair traded home wins in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League round of 16 (Atlético Madrid progressed on penalties).

  • Internazionale have failed to win on any of their last 12 European away trips to face a Spanish opponent (D4 L8), since a 5-1 win at Valencia in the 2004-05 UEFA Champions League group stage. Their last saw them draw 3-3 with Barcelona in last season’s semi-final first leg.

  • Atlético Madrid have won 11 of their last 12 UEFA Champions League home games (L1), with no team picking up more home wins in the competition since the 2023-24 campaign; they have scored 3+ goals in their two home matches this season (5-1 vs Frankfurt, 3-1 vs USG), never doing so in three straight.

  • Internazionale are one of three teams with a perfect four wins from four record in the UEFA Champions League this season alongside Bayern Munich and Arsenal – Inter have never won their opening five matches of a campaign in this competition while the only Italian sides to do so are Milan in 1992-93 (first 6), Juventus in 2004-05 and Napoli in 2022-23 (both first 5).

  • Internazionale are one of only two teams, along with Arsenal, who haven’t conceded a single goal from open play in the opening four matchdays of this season’s UEFA Champions League. Their only goal conceded in the current tournament was from a corner against Kairat on MD4.

  • 40 percent of Atlético Madrid’s goals in the UEFA Champions League this season have been scored from fast breaks (4/10), with their total of four being the most by any side in the opening four matchdays. Indeed, three of those were netted in their 3-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise last time out on MD4.

  • In the opening four matchdays of the UEFA Champions League this season, Internazionale were both the team with the most aerial duels won (69) and the best aerial duel success rate (69% - 69/100).

  • Since the start of the 2023-24 season, Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez has scored 14 goals from 6.4 expected goals in the UEFA Champions League – this is the biggest positive differential between goals and xG of any player in the competition in this period (+7.6).

  • Lautaro Martínez could make his 50th UEFA Champions League start for Internazionale in this match, if he does, he’ll become the fifth player in club history to reach that milestone after Javier Zanetti (91), Esteban Cambiasso (56), Iván Córdoba (54) and Julio César (52).

  • The only players aged under 21 to average more shot involvements per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League this season than Internazionale’s 20-year-old Francesco Pio Esposito (6.6 – 7 chances created, 13 shots in 274 minutes) are Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal (7.1) and Chelsea’s Estêvão (6.8).
