The football was fabulous.

Again, it looks like Beto's on the wrong side of Harwood-Bellis.

He's just offside. It's a shame, it's a lovely header and lovely cross.

What a move! But the flag goes up.

Everton's free-kick is initially cleared but some quick triangle passes set up Ashley Young to cross into Beto whose header is right in the corner.

Again, however, Beto goes too soon.

There is something about English stadiums.

We have to cherish these moments, soon there will not be many more [iconic old stadiums].

You have Selhurst Park, Cravern Cottage - Fulham and Palace might feel the need to get to a bigger stadium, but maybe at some point those two clubs will think it is not possible to play in those stadiums that are quite old.

Moments like today are very special.

Tyler Dibling has a niggle on Iliman Ndiaye off the ball.

The ref spots it, has a word, and gives Everton a promising wide free-kick.

Iliman Ndiaye said he was motivated by the words of his daughter, saying her dad could become the last player to score a goal at Goodison or the first to net at the new venue.

Speaking to BBC Sport from inside Goodison, he added: “It will be really special. I wanted to come here before it leaves this place. Being part of the history is a big thing.

"I am really excited to score a lot of goals and I am a player that likes to get fans out of their seats.

“We all know the aim and personally I think we can end higher than last season. I see some really good things about the squad such as togetherness, which is really important."

Beto tries to hold his line. It's a lovely break.

He's offside and he's too keen there. He's got to try and stay onside with the centre back in front of him.

Everton have the ball in the net but Beto went too early!

The forward is a few yards ahead of Southampton's defensive line as a low cross comes in from the right, which he taps beyond Ramsdale.

Well Kyle, it feels only a matter of time before Everton get another. Jarrad Brathwaite's header from a wide free-kick is blocked. As is James Garner's follow up.

Kyle: It's there for Everton to end in style at Goodison Park they could win this game 4 or 5-0. Southampton are that bad.

Big error from Aaron Ramsdale whose basic pass is intercepted by Beto.

Beto takes it around the keeper but the angle is then against him. He cuts a pass back to Abdoulaye Doucoure but the midfielder doesn't get a decent contact on the ball and his shot is blocked.

Southampton have a long spell of possession, but it ends with a needless Welington offside.

Seamus Coleman turned to the Gwladys Street end and he thumped the Everton club badge on the chest of his shirt.

There is so many players down the years who have given incredible service to Everton football club, but Seamus is definitely one of those.

Could be, Martin. Could be.

Meanwhile, I've done some digging. Everton have never lost a Premier League game when when Iliman Ndiaye has scored (W4 D3).

Seamus Coleman will be devastated. I don't know if he landed awkwardly and he's been feeling it every time.

He's probably made one of the toughest decisions he's had to make in his career to cut his afternoon short. He knows what he means to these Evertonians and he'd have liked to have a round of applause, but I imagine later in the game.

Idrissa Gueye plays a lovely ball around the corner which allows Iliman Ndiaye to tee up Beto on the angle, but the forward shoots just wide.

Somethings have to be scripted from above.

He's such an important part of this club. He took them through good and bad times. When he come in I didn't think Sean Dyche was doing too bad of a job under the circumstances.

New ownership, the manager coming back and steadying the ship - making sure there is no fears of going into a new stadium in a new division [Championship].

Was there an injury? Was Coleman actually fine all along? He sprinted off the field.

Everton win the ball back and Jordan Pickford launches it out of play so Seamus Coleman can go off.

His 430th Everton appearance doesn't last long as 39-year-old Ashley Young comes on. Coleman gets a great reception as he hands the captain's band over to Pickford.
