Erling Haaland's an animal. He always has a picture of any finish in that 18-yard box. Or, where he is on that field, he just knows when to go, when not to go, when to reserve his energy. I think that's really important to remember. He presses, he does all of that and that's why he's so clinical because he reserves his energy in the right moments.

It's that picture, he sees it. And I'd say any young player out there, you don't have to overthink things. He doesn't, he simplifies it. You see it with that finish [for his second goal], such a cool finish. He knew what he was going to do. The third touch he takes to set himself, he's already smiling before he's finished.

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We are in a situation with a start we didn't expect and of course our opponents are so strong. We want to be close and still fighting for titles. The spirit was great, our players have a lot of pride and they want to try to do better on a special day. We saw our fans so happy and that is our job, so, so privileged.

"We have many things to improve. We are not yet a team but step by step. The victory helps us a lot. In the games we have had a lot of momentum and others not enough.

"They [Manchester United] have fantastic players and I know here we struggle against them, we have more better results at Old Trafford."

On Phil Foden: "He played incredible. He is a guy who loves to arrive at the box. Our last Premier League title he was the best player in the Premier League. We need him so much.

"The players have a lot of pride. Erling's commitment this season is unbelievable. Two games, seven goals is not bad."

The system is not helping the United players at all. At all.

All the defenders are going for the same ball for the second goal. It was three versus two and Haaland still ends up winning the ball and scoring. The lack of communication... if you are playing you have to be talking. It is a hard system to play.

I would change formation straight away - it is not working.

As a manager you have to make big decisions. Everyone can see this formation is not working.

I understand principles, I understand methodologies - I get all that. The 3-4-3 is not working. It has not worked for a while.

The number nine in this team will not score goals while this system continues.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, speaking to Sky Sports: "No it's not hard [to find positives]. You have to look at what we did well and it's not enough because you want to win football games. What we did today was not enough to get a result and that's what we'll take from this game. Obviously look at what we have to do better and look to the next game.

"We need to score goals and not concede. We keep creating chances but were not able to score as much as we wanted. We have to be more in control. We concede three goals we could have avoided.

"When we go we have to take more risks and be more brave with the last line. When we pass to our centre-backs they go three against three and squeeze so much. The space is very narrow."

On whether it feels like United are heading in the right decision: "The result is very bad, very bad on us but I think it's two ways of looking at this game. The goals could have been avoided. On the ball we were very positive, very brave, we were playing the ball forward. When we created chances we could have been more clean.

"We wanted what City got and that's the three points. City were smart to get the goals in the way they did, they have a very good team and good players."

You look at United. All too easy. United just look like a really average team. I bet City could not believe how easy it was. When the second goal goes in the game is over. You could feel it in the air. There was no coming back.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "If you look at the goals, we can avoid those goals. That was the biggest difference. We can do better, especially the second goal. We suffered goals we can avoid.

"The biggest difference was when we had transitions, we didn't score. In the second half they did better in transition and we suffered in that moment.

"We can do better, that is clear but again transitions - the third goal, lack of quality in the connection, people don't know who is going to the ball and then the guy is free to score. The first one he is in the middle of four guys and we can be aggressive in that moment.

"In these kind of games we need to be perfect and in this game we were not perfect. The frustration is always the same because with the amount of chances we need to score goals.

"We need to work on a lot of things for the next game."

I believe right now if Forest Green Rovers got to the third round of the FA Cup I would want to draw them at home.

When Foden's standards dropped he was not in the team. Somebody like Cole Palmer, when his standards drop is in the team [at Chelsea] so can play his way back into form.

I think he needed that moment [the goal]. He can always get into positions and he wants to get on the end of it. How many times do you see midfielders get the timing of their runs wrong?

There were elements of the game which were working for United. They had a foot of the game, however Man City were clinical in certain moments. But my problem with this system is you're asking players to play in positions they're not used to. And I'd rather have Bruno Fernandes higher up the field. I'd like to have two solid centre backs, and a 4-3-3 is what I believe but we know he doesn't do that.

I'm never a fan of changing centre backs, personnel and he tends to do that, it's the same patterns. When you overthink things, he's had a period in the international break where he said he did everything, whereas Pep was the complete opposite. He was out there having a great day and forgot about football. Amorim needs to not do too much sometimes because it can eat into you. It can eat into your personal life.

He's really intense and focused on his style and it's all about him. I think he needs to try and relax a little bit. I think the players sense that a little bit and are playing within themselves.

It's a massive day, especially for Ricky Hatton and the boys in blue as well.

Erling Haaland has got something back. Last season he lost a bit of energy. Today he was flawless not just with his goals but holding the ball up, his defensive headers were good.

Today was a really good team performance.

Pep Guardiola has got new players he is trying to bed in. Sometimes you just need to step back for a week and he looks refocused.

With just four points from four games, this is Manchester United’s poorest start to a league season since 1992-93, when they also had four points from their opening four matches under Alex Ferguson.

Manchester City were very good. It was a big day for Halaand. It was important for Foden to get a goal and it was a good debut for the goalkeeper. It is all plusses for City. They scored three, they could have scored more.

It is like they have had a reset. The international break came at a good time for them. There is definitely a different feel to them today. It was an important win and an important statement.

This is the first Manchester derby in the Premier League to have no cards shown for either side. The first 56 meetings in this competition had at least one.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland on playing in the derby: "You could feel it as well from the fans, we needed this. You always want to win the derby but you could feel it extra today. I'm so relieved, so happy we managed to do it altogether. We have to keep going. Today we're super happy."

On Phil Foden: "This is the Phil we need. City were waiting for this and we are going to help him as much as we can to make him as good as he was the season before last."

Manchester City

Manchester City's Phil Foden, speaking to Sky Sports about the tribute to Ricky Hatton: "100% I had extra motivation going into the game, it was for him and his family and for the people suffering right now. The lads gave everything. It wasn't a pretty match but it was all for him."

On scoring and reacting to outside talk: "There has been a lot of talk. It's impossible [not to hear outside talk]. Everything has been quite negative but that's the world that we live in when you are playing at the highest level.

"When you come off winning the player of the season award the standards are higher and I understand that. It's about reading those comments, reacting as well as possible and getting back to my level."

On Erling Haaland: "A complete performance, the way he held up the ball when we were struggling. He did everything. Defending, attacking, running in behind and doing the dirty work. It was a full shift and we need that more."
