Played at Purley Way Croydon on a steeply sloping pitch with a strong wind blowing downhill. Defending uphill 1st half and my goal kicks could not clear the box. Half time 7-0 down, won 11-7 and I didn't touch the ball in the second half

The notorious Concord park in Sheffield had around a dozen Sunday league pitches, not one was flat. They had grass on for around three weeks a year and it was common to see a goalie shooting from his own area.

My ska band once sponsored a Sunday league football team (long story). They were...let's say struggling in the league at the time, and we once turned up to watch them play on a pitch in Salford that was built on a fairly steep hill - and they spent the first half attacking 'upwards'. Conceded five. "Don't worry lads", one of the coaches said. "Second half, they'll get tired and we'll walk it". They conceded six in the second half. Defending the uphill goal. We had a lot to say about the importance of pitch inspections after that.

OK, I'm starting to get it now. The eighties was run by people who didn't believe in health and safety. The seventies was run by people who were really bad at scheduling.

I’m sure back in the 70s the Horse of the Year show used to take place on the Wembley Pitch a couple of weeks before the FA cup final . The pitch looked more like a beach with all the sand on it

With nine games remaining, Nottingham Forest sit third in the Premier League table, and Opta give them an 85.6% chance of finishing in the top five, which is likely to be enough to qualify for the Champions League.

Former Forest striker Robert Earnshaw says ""everyone has been surprised" of Forest's form and he's sure that Nuno Espirito Santo has "sealed" Champions League football for next year.

Remember playing on a pitch in Totton, Southampton in torrential rain in the 80s. A player tripped over something. The ref had a look and there was a bit of bicycle handlebars sticking out of the ground. He abandoned the game and the pitch was closed for inspection. Turns out it was built on a rubbish tip and the topsoil had gradually eroded over the years....

In the '80s, a group of us played indoors at the Sports Centre, Crystal Palace. The surface was the original artificial grass, instant carpet burns! However someone thought it was also a good idea to put it on the walls too. No dashing down the wings without a nasty graze!

  16. Eriksen expects to leave Man Utd this summerpublished at 13:30 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March

Christian Eriksen expects to leave Manchester United this summer and does not anticipate signing for another Premier League club.

The 33-year-old Denmark midfielder joined on a free transfer in July 2022.

He had previously had a short spell at Brentford after resuming his football career following a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

Eriksen has played 66 matches in the Premier League for Manchester United, though game time this season has been limited to 16 top-flight appearances.

His contract expires in the summer and he said there have not been any discussions over a new deal.

"I haven't heard anything from the club, and therefore I assume that the collaboration will stop - that's how I interpret it," said the Dane.

"I am prepared to find something new. I am fine with that. Where it will be, I haven't decided yet."
