We have seen the so-called smaller teams come to Old Trafford over the last few years and get positive results.

They play without fear, press Manchester United, put them under pressure and make things difficult. Certainly, United have missed that advantage of using their crowd. But the fans have been fantastic though results have not been great.

United have lost that fear factor and it will be good if they can get it back.

When you get up against Martin Odegaard and you're strong he does struggle.

Bruno Fernandes is the captain of the football club. Over the past few weeks, he's played a bit deeper and that takes away something from his game. I would like to see him play further forward. That's where he is more effective.

He's the one Manchester United have to build the squad around. He's got the talent and the temperament. But unfortunately, quite a few players around him are not living up to that standards.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "Today we have a big opportunity in an incredible stadium to be ourselves and earn the right to win the game."

On Man Utd: "They change a little bit. They have been quite consistent in their approach. The profile of players changes everything in football."

On Riccardo Calafiori starting: "Riccardo was good when he came on and he gives us options on that left side which we need today."

On Arsenal's gameplan: "An attitude and the way we behave. Regardless of how we play, we always have the same intention."

Mikel Arteta makes some big calls as well. Two years ago, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko were the guys who were supposed to take Arsenal to the league title, but these players are no longer guaranteed to be starting because he is making decisions to play people who suits his style more and more. I like that about him.

It has led to the rise of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly. So I back him but the only question is whether he wants to be at Arsenal for 200 more games.

There are other motivations the mangers can have during that time. Maybe he wants an international job or try his luck in a different country because we forget he is so young.

It's not easy looking at the league table and seeing Manchester United down in 15th place.

But the manager has got an opportunity to see which players he want for the next season and there will be some big decisions to be made in the summer.

It's not ideal and it's not where United want to be.

Realistically, the Premier League title is a non-starter for Arsenal as Liverpool stand a mammoth 16 points clear before this meeting with Manchester United, but there is a buoyant mood among Gunners fans gathered in a corner of Old Trafford.

They are making their noisy presence felt, spirits lifted by that magnificent 7-1 win away to PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.

Still plenty to play for this season, starting here against struggling Manchester United.

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, speaking to Sky Sports: "We are going to face a really good team. We are focused on this game. Of course, we have to rotate some players and present a fresh team for this game, but our focus is to fight for the win today.

"It is important this game. I don't want to put the young players in at this moment, the other guys have to step up in this moment. We know what kind of team we are going to face. Any bad result here is a problem.

"Our focus is to win the game - it is quite simple."

On Rasmus Hojlund being among the substitutes: "It is freshness. He was really fatigued in the end of the game [after playing Real Sociedad] and we try different things.

"We know the opposition centre-backs - what they want and what they like. We try to do different things to surprise the opponent."

On fan protest: "We have to use that energy. The minimum is to give them everything and finish the game with nothing to give."

I was in Eindhoven on Tuesday to cover Arsenal in the Champions League for 5 Live, and it's a lovely place.

Eindhoven is the design capital of the Netherlands, known for being a city of innovation and creativity - two of the things Manchester United are sorely lacking at the moment.

Arsenal have struggled to score in the Premier League but the goals were flowing freely for them against PSV and this feels like it is going to be another rearguard action for Manchester United, similar to the way they got past the Gunners in the FA Cup.

United do seem to, somehow, raise their game against the better teams and that is the only way they are going to make this close.

I still think Arsenal will win it, though.

Tuesday was the first time I have seen Ethan Nwaneri play in the flesh and I was really impressed with his performance for Mikel Arteta's team.

Declan Rice was immense in midfield and Martin Odegaard was excellent too. There has been some criticism of his form recently but he really delivered in that game.

So, although United might try to make things hard for them, I definitely think Arsenal will find a way through.

They won't score seven again, but this game has got all the hallmarks of ending up 1-0 to the Arsenal.

Arsenal fan Laura Kirk-Francis has been speaking on the latest episode of The Football News Show about season tickets increasing in price for next season.

The Gunners have put up prices by between 3% and 5%, which they say is in response to rising costs, including a 40% increase in player wages over the past 12 months.

Kirk-Francis said: "As a fan, it is really disappointing that the club identified that a ticket increase is the way to plug that shortfall.

"It feels quite uncomfortable that we are being asked to find that extra money to fund the club."

You forgot how young [Mikel Arteta] is, 42 years old. It is his first job and to be able to be at the club for that long, he deserves a ton of credit.

At the start, there was criticism levelled at him, but his connections at the club from when he played did make a difference. Now it's bearing the fruits of that at this stage.

I don't necessarily judge him by whether he has won the Premier League title or not. I think it's the other competitions like the FA Cup and League Cup where I feel let down by them.

If they were good enough to contend for the league title, how do we look back at the cup disappointments they've had. I'm not saying they should be winning the Champions League or Europa League, but losing to Manchester United and Newcastle this season in the cups - they are a better team than those results show.

To keep it alive, Arsenal need to win today.

The way Liverpool have played this season has been very impressive. They’ve taken a bit of energy out of it which I think is paying dividends now as they look so strong.

The two early kick-offs have just finished and Tottenham fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Bournemouth, while Chelsea beat Leicester 1-0.

This is what those results have done to the table. Manchester United will move up from 15th to 13th if they win.

It is so difficult for Liverpool fans to say, they’re just scared of something happening, even if Arsenal win today the gap is too big.

With Arsenal injuries you cannot see them being perfect and you can’t see Liverpool slipping up enough. The transition from Jurgen Klopp to Arne Slot has been so smooth.

They’ve been outstanding and Arsenal’s injuries have hampered them.

Arsenal are getting closer [to winning a title under Mikel Arteta].

Considering they finished eighth the season before he took over five years ago, the answer is yes, they are closer.

Should they have won one by now? Maybe, because Arsenal fans will be frustrated they have not won a trophy outside of an FA Cup during the pandemic.

But you cannot argue with the fact that has transformed the club from where it was when he took over and where it is now, in terms of results.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says the club will not give him the time that Mikel Arteta was afforded to change fortunes at Arsenal.

Spaniard Arteta replaced Unai Emery as Arsenal manager in December 2019 and has helped transform the Gunners into regular title challengers.

Arteta won the 2020 FA Cup in his first season but it remains the only piece of silverware he has won since his appointment - and it took him three seasons to return the club to the Champions League.

"I will not have the time the Arteta had," said Amorim.

However Amorim said he could draw inspiration from the manner in which Arteta dealt with a number of issues during his early days at Arsenal.

"I feel that [Arsenal] is a different club," continued Amorim. "It is a different club, in that aspect, the way how Arteta dealt with that [the issues] is an inspiration for everybody."
