  2. 'We want to take the club forward'published at 19:04 British Summer Time 4 August

    FT: Celtic 4-0 Kilmarnock

When asked about the prospect of new singings, Brendan Rodgers added: "Currently our focus is very much the players that are here but naturally we want to improve the squad.

"It's our duty to do that for the players and we'll speak about that. I will never say anything that I've not spoken to my bosses about.

"We want to take the club forward, we know the challenges that we have on every front and for that we want to improve the squad. Hopefully we can get in the players that can help us kick on this season.

"I'd love to have more tools to have a go at the Champions League, that's one of our big goals this season. we want to get into the play-off phases and for that we want to improve the squad."

  3. First step delights Celtic bosspublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 4 August

    FT: Celtic 4-0 Kilmarnock

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we were very connected, some of our passing and the speed of our game was very good.

"Defensively we were very strong, the first goal came from that counter press. I have to be so pleased for the first game of the season.

"Being at the top of the league at the end of the season is what's important but the first steps are critical and we made a really good step today."

    FT: St Mirren 3-0 Hibernian

David Gray will be a very honest coach because he was a very honest player. He will need to be patient and fans will need to be patient.

What they need is everyone pulling in the same direction, players, coaches and supporters.

Hibs must dust themselves down for back-to-back games against Celtic - in the Premiership and League Cup.

They certainly can't afford to defend like they did today or else it could get very messy.

  6. 'Nowhere near where we need to be'published at 18:51 British Summer Time 4 August

    FT: St Mirren 3-0 Hibernian

Hibernian head coach David Gray told BBC Scotland: "Patchy at times, to say the least. The performance is irrelevant when you lose the game 3-0. I can't accept that.

"In the first half we had enough chances to go in front. We don't take them. It's been a theme for a wee while. The goal we lose starts with three or four mistakes.

"The second goal is an error. We're punished for it. That's the level you're playing at. It's nowhere near where we need to be.

"The standards have been set from day one. The expectation is there every day. We know in both boxes we weren't good enough again today and that's a concern.

"We can't have six or seven chances to score a goal. We will be looking to bring players in, especially in the forward area."

  7. 'We were in total control'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 4 August

    FT: St Mirren 3-0 Hibernian

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson told BBC Scotland: "The second half was full marks. We managed the game really well. We looked a little jaded to start, a little tired. We expended a lot of energy in that game on Thursday.

"It was important to get them in at half time, spoke to them about what they're good at. We didn't pass the ball well enough in the first half, it was a little frantic.

"The first goal is always important and then we settled, we were in total control after that. When we were 3-0 up, we managed the game which is a big improvement.

"[Oisin Smyth and James Scott] have worked tirelessly in the background, along with others, to get up to fitness. We know they're quality, they're adding to the squad. I'm delighted for both those boys and we have real competition in the group.

"Roland (Idowu) is a bit of a maverick. We're structured and have good shape, but he gives us a point of difference. The hard bit now is managing the squad and rotating it for the European games."

There is no doubt Celtic need another number nine. Maybe a different type than Kygo, maybe a little taller. Left-back is another one. Greg Taylor has seen off a few who have come in - and maybe another central defender. Matt O'Riley has got to have a few big bids coming in for him.

It did not flatter them, the 4-0. Celtic were fantastic and set their stall out for the start of this campaign.

It will be important before the end of the window, who Celtic can keep a hold off, Matt O'Riley being the main one.

Total domination. Convincing performance. Excellent in possession and good out of possession.

Celtic looked hungry and that will probably be the most pleasing thing for Brendan Rodgers.

A little kid in the crowd is beaming from ear to ear after getting Kasper Schmeichel's gloves.

There won't be a mark on those after a very quiet debut for the Denmark captain.

  16. FULL-TIME Celtic 4-0 Kilmarnockpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 4 August

A first Celtic goal in three years for Anthony Ralston completes a good day for the champions.

They are top of the table and already it looks like something special will have to happen to nudge them off the summit.

That stoppage-time goal takes Celtic top of the table.

    Celtic 3-0 Kilmarnock

With everyone expecting a shot, Matt O'Riley flicks a smart free-kick over the defensive wall for Kyogo to chase. He gets a touch before he is clattered by goalkeeper Robby McCrorie and the ball trickles out of play.

Is that a penalty? Was Kyogo offside?

Play continues and Kyogo does not look best pleased.
