Simon and Connie: I cannot describe how nervous my youngest daughter and I are. Both supporting Ipswich from Nottinghamshire. Both of us have spent far too much of the day considering the permutations! Such a fantastic season no matter what happens! COYB!

It really is the time of the year for the word permutations isn't it?!

Remarkably given the position they're in Ipswich have not won any of their past three games and are without a victory since April Fool's Day.

Fans of Leeds will hope they extend their winless run to four this evening.

Even start out on the pitch, as Omari Hutchinson can't make the most of a foray down the left for the away side.

This is how the Championship table looks going into today's final game.

Ipswich were given an all-mighty boost yesterday when second-placed Leeds capitulated at QPR to go down 4-0.

That means the Tractor Boys are one point behind the Whites but with two games in hand and in need of just five points to be sure of second place and promotion to the Premier League.

Hull City have also been the beneficiaries of results elsewhere this weekend.

Ailing West Brom were hammered 3-0 at Sheffield Wednesday to slip to sixth and Norwich could only draw 2-2 with midtable Swansea.

Two wins might still not be enough for the Tigers to sneak a top six berth but it will give them a great chance.

    • After remaining unbeaten across 13 prior meetings (W10 D3), Hull City have since lost each of their last two league games against Ipswich Town without scoring.
    • Ipswich Town have won just two of their 19 away league games against Hull City in the EFL (D6 L11), conceding 38 goals during that time and keeping just one clean sheet.
    • Hull won 3-0 in their last home league match against QPR – the Tigers have only registered consecutive home wins once this season, winning three in a row across October and November.
    • Ipswich Town have won 26 league games this season, having been promoted from League One last season. In the entire history of the Football League, no newly promoted side has ever won 27 league matches in a season in the second tier.
    • Ipswich full-back Leif Davis has assisted 17 Championship goals this season – since 2013-14, only one player has ever assisted more goals in a Championship campaign, with Harry Wilson getting 19 assists for Fulham in 2021-22.

Hull City make one change from the XI that started the vital 3-2 win at Coventry in midweek, as Ozan Tufan comes in for Liam Delap. Delap was making his first start after an injury lay-off so not a major surprise.

Ipswich Town make two VERY notable changes from the team that started for them in their last match at home to Middlesbrough a fortnight ago. Striker George Hirst returns for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury on Boxing Day and forward Wes Burns is back in after missing the past six games.

If Ipswich get five points from their remaining three matches, they'll be joining Leicester in the Premier League next season.

Away games against Hull and Coventry are followed by a home fixture against Huddersfield, who are all-but relegated, on the final day.

Should they achieve the results necessary, the Tractor Boys will become the first team since Southampton in 2011 and 2012 to achieve successive promotions to the top flight.

The final day of today's bumper EFL action comes from East Yorkshire.

Seventh-placed Hull City host third-placed Ipswich in an absolutely massive game at the top end of the Championship.

Town haven't played in two weeks and now know that two wins from their final three games in the next seven days will see them return to the Premier League.

Thirty minutes until kick off, let's have some build up for this one.

  11. Foxes could seal title on Mondaypublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 27 April

Preston v Leicester (Monday, 20:00 BST)

It always feels a little bit 'after the Lord Mayor's show'* when a side has already clinched promotion to the Premier League, but Leicester could be crowned second-tier champions on Monday.

If Ipswich fail to beat Hull later, a win for the Foxes at Preston gives them the title.

    *Do they still have that?

Four losses and just one win from six matches - including a dramatic defeat by a Leeds side that was 17 points adrift of Leicester at the start of January - turned it into a four-way skirmish for a top-two finish - with Leeds, Ipswich and Southampton the other contenders.

For all but two of the 176 days between 23 September and 17 March, Leicester had been top. They were replaced by Leeds before Ipswich shot ahead of them both, forcing Leicester out of the automatic promotion spots by the end of the month.

Just as Leicester faltered, those around them also dropped crucial points, allowing the Foxes a chance to regroup and seal their top-flight return.

What awaits them in the Premier League, however, remains uncertain. The club is due to face an independent commission after they were charged by the Premier League for alleged breaches of profit and sustainability rules (PSR) relating to their last three years in the top flight.

If found guilty of financial breaches, they could begin next season with a points penalty.

Leicester City were flying in their campaign to return to the Premier League earlier this season but, after a near-catastrophic loss of form late on, they have recovered to vault over the finishing line.

Tuesday's 5-0 hammering of Southampton made it back-to-back wins for a side that were only looking capable of stumbling their way to automatic promotion.

In mid-February, the title and rise back to the top flight looked inevitable - they were 12 points clear at the summit and had a 14-point cushion to third spot.

The Foxes, some said, were aboard the "Marescalator" - an upwardly mobile, smooth-passing, possession-hungry machine operated by their Italian boss, who was taking Leicester only one way: straight up.

But then, the Foxes seized up...

Leeds' 4-0 thumping at QPR on Friday meant Leicester sealed promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking without even playing.

  15. 'We went about Cardiff win in right way'published at 19:09 British Summer Time 27 April

    FT: Cardiff 1-4 Middlesbrough

Eight-placed Boro are guaranteed of a top 10 finish in the Championship under Michael Carrick this season after their thumping win in South Wales.

Despite missing out on a play-off spot, Carrick is pleased to see his side seeing out the season in style..

"Really happy with the result. I thought we played really well in bursts really. We capitalised on that with some of the quality of the football and the goals we scored," Carrick said.

"The game drifted a little bit but maybe that's understandable with a few changes. But it's another away win for us and we can be pleased with a lot of things.

"The boys went about it in the right way. It was a real test of self-motivation and pride.

"The desire was there and I am really pleased with the day we've had."

  16. 'We didn't deserve to lose by three goals'published at 19:05 British Summer Time 27 April

    FT: Cardiff 1-4 Middlesbrough

Cardiff were on the receiving end of a chastening 4-1 defeat at home to Middlesbrough.

The loss was their heaviest defeat at home of the season and was a fifth defeat in eight matches for Erol Bulut's inconsistent Bluebirds, who dropped to 12th in the Championship.

"I'm disappointed with the result, to concede four goals, but if we see the whole game, how many chances we had, we didn't deserve to lose that game by three goals," Bulut said.

"We had enough chances to score and even to lead, but we concede in the last second of the first half. Then in the second half we concede a goal in three minutes. That was an unlucky goal.

"We had enough chances to come back but we couldn't finalise our chances.

"We don't have to forget also that we didn't have half of the team with us today, but this is not the reason that we didn't score. We didn't have the final touch today."

  17. 'Penalty looks like a dive' - Evanspublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 27 April

    FT: Bristol City 2-0 Rotherham

Rotherham manager Steve Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield he was disappointed with the penalty decision that gave Bristol City the lead during their 2-0 defeat.

“They got a penalty for what looks like a dive. I think the boy (Conway) has just overrun the ball," Evans said.

“That first goal gives them a lot of momentum and probably makes our boys nervy not to concede three or four goals, which has probably been semi-normal.

“I’m really disappointed with the referee’s decision to give the penalty in the first half, but we understand we were a long way second today. It’s not a close second - we were a long way second.

Despite Rotherham's 29th loss of the campaign, Evans could find the positives for his relegated side.

“I thought the performance was very workmanlike. We showed lots of energy and industry. But they were by far the better side," he added.

“I’ve praised the boys for their efforts. There’s lots of learning that I’m going through at this period in time.”

FT: Sheff Wed 3-0 West Brom

Carlos Corberan looks dejectedImage source, Rex Features

Meanwhile West Brom manager Carlos Corberan told BBC Radio WM he didn't think a lack of energy was the reason behind his side's poor showing at Hillsborough.

"We are disappointed with the result because we wanted to achieve three points today.

"In the moment that we were better than them, we didn't find the goal. The moment they were better than us, they scored goals.

"I don't think their energy is the reason why we lost the game.

"The reason is more about how we approached the game and not scoring from the chances we created. In football, goals change games.

"My responsibility as a coach is to analyse everything I do as a coach; the responsibility of the players is to analyse everything they do on the pitch."

  20. 'Owls were outstanding' - Rohlpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 27 April

FT: Sheff Wed 3-0 West Brom

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield how pleased he was with his side's showing as they moved three points clear of the drop zone.

"My team was outstanding and I'm very proud of them today," he said.

"We fought for every inch to defend our box; we were 3-0 up and we wanted a clean sheet.

"It is not easy against such an opponent - they are really strong and they have good possession. We were really able to do it this for 100 minutes, defend as a team. We deserved to win.

"We need one more win and we're still not safe. Focus and concentration for one more week and then we can really celebrate. This is what I demand from my team.

"We beat a top six team today; I'm proud. I love my team and we have invested everything we have. Today we should enjoy the moment, but we go again next game."
