Chelsea have signed and loaned players since the 2004 Mourinho days and now it’s finally coming back to bite them. This belief however of ‘why would players want to sign?’ is meaningless as loads of players have signed. No other manager previously has tried to have a clear out as large as this as it was obviously just too much work and the board just want to sign players left, right, and centre. I wish Enzo Maresca the best of luck amidst the usual chaos of Chelsea FC!

Journalist Mina Rzouki spoke about Joao Felix's move to Chelsea on the Euro Leagues podcast: "You have to believe that every 24-year-old will live up to expectations. Especially someone who has the talent that he does. The only issue is whether you can see him doing it at Chelsea? That is the overhanging question mark and I don't think he can.

"One of the reasons that we hail players like Jude Bellingham is because of how they have managed their career and the choices they have made. It is hard to understand what Chelsea are trying to achieve and you do not know if you will be selected to play or if you will be a fringe player."

More from West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui who cannot wait for the summer transfer window to close,

Lopetegui is adamant it should shut before the start of the new Premier League season.

"Once the market is closed I think the players are fully focused, but we have to adapt," said the former Spain boss. "For sure I would prefer the market to be closed before the start of the season."

My favourite MOTD moment was actually getting to see the programme! It wasn't broadcast in Scotland for many, many years as we had our own highlights show. Best football programme on TV by a mile.

More from Everton boss Sean Dyche who did his news conference a little earlier ahead of Saturday's game at Tottenham.

Dyche could have only 14 fit senior players available and said: "We're stretched unfortunately. We're down to about 14 recognised first-team players at the minute, so that's not perfect, but the challenge is right in front of us as always.

"We've lost a few bodies in pre-season, which has been unfortunate, they're searching for true fitness and we've got to get them fit and we've lost more who might not be available for this weekend."

  7. Lopetegui on first London derbypublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 22 August

Crystal Palace v West Ham (Sat 15:00 BST)

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui on his first London derby as West Ham boss: "The importance of the points is the same for us. We know the kind of things we're going to face at Crystal Palace, we played them in pre-season, so we'll be ready. We have to focus on our strengths and believe in our ability.

"We're going to face maybe one of the best teams from the end of last season at their home, so it's a challenge and we're going to have to be ready."

Football journalist Julien Laurens speaking about Kylian Mbappe settling in at Real Madrid: "His life as a Real Madrid player started in the European Super Cup against Atalanta, where he scored. The first half was not so good, the second half much better. From a Real Madrid point of view and from an Mbappe point of view as well, a good goal, set up by [Jude] Bellingham. They look like they understood each other very well."

Russell Martin has talked up Southampton's summer signings ahead of their Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Saints have been active in the transfer market following last season's promotion from the Championship, bringing 11 players into their first-team squad.

Lesley Ugochukwu, signed on a season-long loan from Chelsea, Mateus Fernandes, a permanent arrival from Sporting, and Cameron Archer, who departed Aston Villa this summer, are among those to have excited Martin.

"They've only had a few training sessions but we're really excited to work with them," said Southampton boss Martin, whose side started the season with a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle.

"We want players who are hungry to be here and I've really been impressed by them in the first few days of training."

  13. 'This move is so important for him'published at 14:43 British Summer Time 22 August

    BBC Sounds

Football journalist Julien Laurens on Joao Felix's move to Chelsea: "There was no other club that wanted him this summer and Chelsea only came in for him because of Conor Gallagher. Otherwise he would still be at Atletico and not playing because he has fallen out with Diego Simeone.

"If this move does not work and he does not play then no one will come in for him in January or next summer. It would then become a waste of an incredible talent.

"They have to find him the right position and play him, but then you are still at the mercy of him being consistent which he has not been for years now.

"This move is so important for him because if it does not go right then I do not know what will be next for him."

  15. 'We are being linked with everybody'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 22 August

Fulham v Leicester (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper on who they are being linked with: "Everybody. We are being linked with everybody. But, no names to mention.

"It is the same answer from managers around the country - when we have definite news we will let you know. We want to strengthen the squad. We want to keep a lot [of momentum] going from last year and part of that is adding and strengthening and we will look to do that with a week to go."

And finally on being linked with Jordan Ayew and needing to strengthen attack: "Definitely an area we would like to add to.

"With what we have at the moment and some injuries it is one of the areas we would like strengthen.

"Might not be done in this window, but one we will look at."

  16. 'Keeping Vardy fresh for games is going to be important'published at 14:30 British Summer Time 22 August

Fulham v Leicester (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper on keeping Jamie Vardy fit: "Definitely important to keep all players fit. Jamie doesn’t need any special words from me on capabilities and impact he can have and talent he has around the box.

"Keeping him fresh for games is going to be important. He is an older player now with his age; as they get older they understand their bodies well and know what is needed to prepare for games.

"It is important we work with him collaboratively to get him ready for games. He really enjoys the games and what it takes to get ready for games and we have to respect that.

"We are getting to know all players now and what they require to be ready for games. That is just coaching and preparation."

  17. Skipp available for Saturdaypublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 22 August

Fulham v Leicester (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper is next in the hot seat and he confirmed that new signing Oliver Skipp is available to face Fulham, adding: "It is great that he is here.

"We are looking to add more players as well, hopefully sooner rather than later. When you bring them in you want them to compete for places and we have a great training ethic here.

"It's a challenge that will be embraced by the guys. Everyone that is fit and available will be ready for selection if required."

On what former Spurs man Skipp brings to the side: "He is a good young player, has games under his belt in the Premier League. We have nice variety and balance of midfield options.

"Premier League demands everything of you and different things in one game. Important to have right strength and depth from game to game, and I believe Skippy offers calming influence in midfield and we look forward to introducing him into the system."

  18. 'You know, he actually can play football' - Walker on father's influencepublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 22 August

    Kyle WalkerImage source, Getty Images

England and Manchester City defender Kyle Walker says the tough love of his father helped him become an elite player.

Walker has enjoyed a glittering career at City, winning the Premier League six times as well as two FA Cups, four EFL Cups and the Champions League.

Speaking on the You'll Never Beat Kyle Walker podcast the 34-year-old opened up on the influence his dad Michael has had on his career.

"I used to hate going to football with him," Walker said.

"No matter if I played good or I played bad, I'd get in the car and I'd be reduced to tears. He'd say I wouldn't have done this right, I wouldn't have done that right.

"He didn't do it because he wanted to hurt me. He did it because he cared.

"I could have scored three goals. But he would have said, 'no, you should have scored six'. Only when I've got older in my career, he actually says 'all right, well played son'.

"After a couple of years at City. I think he was then like 'you know, he actually can play football'."

Manchester City v Ipswich Town (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Ipswich Town

Armando Broja celebrating for ChelseaImage source, Getty Images

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna was asked about further transfer activity: "There are still some areas we feel we want to add to, the forward area is one of those. With the level of the league and how we operate we need great depth in those areas. We are a team who probably made more forward substitutions than anyone last year.

"We want to be really strong in those areas and have good depth; we want to add different qualities that will help us be successful in the Premier League."

On the added importance to strengthen due to injuries: "We've had injuries to George Hirst, Nathan Broadhead and now Wes Burns, and none of those are minor injuries - so that increases the need. Hopefully we can make a couple of really good additions over what is left over the transfer window."

On Armando Broja who is expected to join on loan from Chelsea: "There is nothing confirmed yet, until there is any confirmation - I think that is still a way away. So until that point there is no reason to comment."
