  1. New month, same old Championship...published at 22:46 British Summer Time 1 October

There's a reason why people say the Championship is the hardest division to win in world football. Tonight, we got a glimpse of why.

Leaders West Brom were beaten for the second time in four days, allowing Sunderland to take over at the summit and Burnley to join the Black Cats in the top-two.

Blackburn's unbeaten start was brought to a shuddering halt by Coventry, who had been outclassed at Leeds on Saturday, while the Whites and Norwich slugged it out in a draw at Carrow Road and Luton allowed a two-goal lead to slip at home against a side who were two divisions below them just five months ago.

Sheffield United are the division's one remaining unbeaten team, but for how much longer?

We'll see them host Swansea back here tomorrow night to find out.

Thank you for your company this evening, join us again tomorrow for more? Good.

    Goodnight.

  2. Edwards: 'Clearly we are not at our best at the moment'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 1 October

    Luton 2-2 Oxford United

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards told BBC Radio Three Counties:

"We put ourselves in such a good position.

"The goal that we conceded and the timing of it, before half time, was really disappointing.

"We probably got the press wrong and at that stage of the game didn't needed to press, but then opened up too many gaps.

"They got the goals back, probably deservedly so. Clearly we are not at our best at the moment, there is probably a bit of a lack of confidence."

  3. Buckingham: 'That was a wonderful advert for our football team.'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 1 October

    Luton 2-2 Oxford United

Oxford United manager Des Buckingham told BBC Radio Oxford: "That was a wonderful advert for our football team.

"I'm delighted with what I've just watched there. To come back into the game after two setbacks, we created some several chances.

"Second half, I thought we played some wonderful football and should have arguably gone on to win the game.

"It puts ourselves in a good position to go again on Saturday."

  5. Thorup 'really impressed'published at 22:42 British Summer Time 1 October

    Norwich 1-1 Leeds

Norwich Head Coach Johannes Hoff Thorup told BBC Radio Norfolk:

“From minute one to the last minute, I think what they did was really, really impressive.

"They spoke about it before the game that there would definitely be moments in this one tonight where we would have to put a defensive solid performance, with support to each other, and I think definitely we saw that.”

  6. Newly contracted Cifuentes after 'brave' defeatpublished at 22:39 British Summer Time 1 October

    QPR 1-3 Hull City

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes speaking to BBC Radio London:

"We started the game at a high level, very brave on the ball. I think in the first 10 minutes we could have had two or three goals.

"In football you need to score your chances and perhaps the first opportunity they got, from the set play we concede a goal that we should defend much better.

"In the last third we need to be more clinical. It was a very good game for us until minute 70, despite conceding two goals, when they score the third one it's very difficult for us.

"We made a lot of chances, much more than them, but as we became more desperate they started to create more chances.

"It was something that pleased me but the reality is we need to score more goals."

On signing a new contract with QPR: "I think the club believes in what we're trying to do, to develop young players and play in an attacking way and hopefully we're going to get better and get the results that we want on the pitch once again.

"The supporters have been amazing and the players are all in so I appreciate the support from the owners."

  7. Walter: 'We started like a fire engine'published at 22:38 British Summer Time 1 October

    QPR 1-3 Hull City

Hull City Head Coach Tim Walter speaking to BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was a tough game against a really tough opponent. We started like a fire engine, fortunately we had Ivor Pandur in goal.

"After we scored the first goal it was even better. Unfortunately we conceded the penalty but I was really pleased with the guys how we played in the second half.

"We had even more chances and that's what I want to see from them.

"They showed again mentality and that they trust each other and stick together.

"We are a good team and everyone believes in everybody."

Hull City gained reward for their Tuesday night trip to London, beating QPR 3-1 to gain ground in their chase for the play-off positions whilst Sheffield United play their game in hand against Swansea tomorrow evening, when Watford also head to Preston.

  9. 'Not accurate enough in final third'published at 22:31 British Summer Time 1 October

    FT: West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan told Sky Sports:

"It was a very equal, balanced game between two good teams. But they had more accuracy in the final third.

"In our big chances, we couldn't find the goal. Our last cross, the last pass was not at the necessary level to hurt them more.

"They found better solutions in the last third of the pitch than we did."

  10. 'Fantastic performance'published at 22:24 British Summer Time 1 October

    FT: West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough head coach Michael Carrick told Sky Sports:

"It was a fantastic performance all round. We were solid defensively and we had good control for the majority of the game.

"It was a proper game, they're a really good team and we had to be at our best.

"There was a lot to be really proud about tonight. I enjoyed watching the boys and I thought there was a goal in us. It was a fantastic finish from H (Hayden Hackney), he just passed it in."

  11. 'Every team has elite players so there is no room for error in this league.'published at 22:17 British Summer Time 1 October

    FT: Sunderland 2-0 Derby

Derby defender Kane Wilson told BBC Radio Derby:

"Sunderland have a lot of quality.

A few little adjustments and we could have got more out of it.

Every team has elite players so there is no room for error in this league.

I cannot tell you how gutted the lads are in the changing room, but we cannot complain, they were better than us.

Our home form is brilliant, I just hope we can keep it going, there are things we can definitely improve on."

  12. Words from the Derby gaffer Paul Warne:published at 22:13 British Summer Time 1 October

    FT: Sunderland 2-0 Derby

Derby manager Paul Warne told BBC Radio Derby:

"Tonight every time we put a tackle in it seemed to be a free-kick.

For parts of it we looked good, but not for long enough.

I asked the lads to keep the ball, to treat it like it is their partner.

I cannot criticise the lads' lack of effort, I just don't think we had enough quality on the ball.

In the final third we did not have that cutting edge.

It is disappointing, but I will come away with some positives."

  13. Postpublished at 22:05 British Summer Time 1 October

    FT: West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough are soaking up the applause from the 1,500 or so visiting supporters who have travelled down from Teesside.

    Quite right, too!

Probably a fair result as Boro produced an excellent, controlled Championship performance.

  14. 'The two midfielders especially were outstanding.'published at 22:05 British Summer Time 1 October

    FT: West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

Before the game we would have taken a draw all day long.

But as the game went on I felt it was there for us.

We were the better side, we created better opportunities.

There were great individual performances from Boro as well.

The two midfielders especially were outstanding.

What a win that is - a statement win.

  18. Postpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 1 October

    West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

We have spoken a lot about how this result affects West Brom, but three points would take Boro into the top six.

At no stage last season were they in a play-off spot after a poor start, so they appear set to be more in the shake up this time.

  19. 'He has to go across the 'keeper!'published at 21:56 British Summer Time 1 October

    West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Tony 'Bomber' Brown
West Brom's all-time leading goalscorer on BBC Radio WM

    That is another opportunity.

A great run, on his left-foot and Maja has drilled it into the side netting.

He has to go across the 'keeper!
