    West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

A fluid Middlesbrough move as they work it up the field. Neto Borges is up from left-back into the attack and his low ball is turned wide of the near post by substitute Delano Burgzorg.

    That would have settled things.

    West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Much better from West Brom.

It's a terrific ball into Josh Maja in the area from Callum Styles and the number nine is onto it sharply, but he flashes a shot into the side netting.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:48 British Summer Time 1 October

    West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

Ben Doak's evening is done and livewire Isaiah Jones comes on.

Quietly, Middlesbrough have assembled a very decent Championship squad.

  4. Norwich 'really dug in today against Leeds'published at 21:47 British Summer Time 1 October

    FT: Norwich 1-1 Leeds

    Chris Goreham
    BBC Radio Norfolk commentator

Norwich City stuck to their task here and earnt a hard fought point.

They really dug in today against Leeds and I am impressed at how they rolled up their sleeves to get this result.

    West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

What have West Brom got in response?

We know Sunderland and Burnley have won, so they will slip to third if this result stands.

And then Alex Mowatt sends in a super cross, which is just missed by leading scorer Josh Maja on the six-yard line. That was almost the moment they wanted.

A typically pulsating Championship clash ends all square. This was a point apiece that both sides had to earn.

Josh Sargent's penalty put the Canaries ahead before the break but Largie Ramazani's neat finish ensured a point for Leeds.

Norwich are now 19 games unbeaten at Carrow Road, their best run since 1972.

    Sunderland 2-0 Derby

A beauty from Jobe Bellingham and a poacher's finish from Wilson Isidor have done the business for Sunderland.

They are going top of the Championship. Roll on that Friday night visit of Leeds!

Derby's early problems on the road continue.

    Luton 2-2 Oxford

Oxford United picked-up their first away point in English football's second tier for 25 years but might have had all three as they stormed back from 2-0 down against 10-man Luton.

Luton, looking for successive home wins for the first time since April 2023 found themselves 2-0 ahead thanks to Jordan Clark and Tom Krauss but were slightly flattered by that scoreline as Oxford wasted a number of opportunities before Tyler Goodrham reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time.

Ruben Rodrigues deservedly equalised for Oxford just before the hour mark, turning home Kyle Edwards' cross.

Thomas Kaminski was Luton's last line of defence and he spectacularly denied Oxford the lead with a triple save as the visitors piled on the pressure.

Luton boss Rob Edwards rang the changes to try to get his side going again only to see one of his substitutes, Liam Walsh, red carded less than a minute of being introduced for a reckless challenge on Siriki Dembele.

Pretty breathless stuff and honours even.

How this game ended 1-0 I will never know, but Burnley might not care come May.

Plymouth finished on the front-foot but Josh Brownhill's cool first-half penalty was the difference, though both teams spurned a series of chances to add to the scoring on the night.

Plymouth have now lost five of their last six on the road, picking up just one point, and they haven't scored in any of those defeats.

Norwich fans just trying to stir themselves for one last effort.

Perhaps the last attack of the game.

    Coventry 3-0 Blackburn

Haji Wright celebrating scoring for CoventryImage source, Rex Features

Blackburn's unbeaten start is over and Coventry are back on the winning horse after successive EFL defeats.

The home side simply had too much pace and too much desire for the visitors who, at times, looked laboured and tired.

Jake Bidwell got things up and running for Coventry with an early header and they could have been further ahead at the break with Pears denying Rudoni and Mason-Clark.

Blackburn needed to reorganise at the break but were 2-0 down three minutes after the break as Haji Wright seized on a defensive mistake to score and he might have had a second minutes later only to see a shot blocked.

Brandon Thomas-Asante added gloss to the scoreline as he was slid in by Mason-Clark to fire past Pears.

Mark Robins made four changes to his starting line-up and will be pleased with how his side took the game to Blackburn who will quickly want to forget this one.

    QPR 1-3 Hull

An excellent midweek night for Hull as they win a third game in a row.

Three goals and three points, lovely jubbly for them. Less so for QPR as they sink further down the table towards trouble.

If you can't win at home, life becomes very difficult, very quickly.

    West Brom 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

    Measured effort, bottom-left corner.

    Beautiful football, really good passing.

Ben Doak lays the ball into Hayden Hackney and it is a side-foot shot, a pass into the net.

He comes onto it and just feeds the ball into the far corner and hits the side-netting right in front of the Boro fans.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 1 October

Sam Long, not for very long one suspects, is on for Elliott Moore for Oxford and we're deep into injury time.

    Cardiff 1-0 Millwall

Put away those history books, Cardiff City are off and running in this season's Championship.

Jak Alnwick ensured the points with a last-gasp block from Duncan Watmore's close-range backheel.

Perry Ng's flashing header from Joe Ralls' first-half corner ensures Cardiff's first win of the season, and they deserved it.

    Hayden Hackney (73 mins)

Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney celebrates scoring at West BromImage source, PA Media

The man from Redcar does it again for Boro!!

Excellent, patient football from the visitors as they work it nicely around West Brom before Riley McGree lays it back and Hayden Hackney almost passes it into the bottom corner from about 18 yards.

That finish had all the hallmarks of a Michael Carrick goal!

  17. Postpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 1 October

    West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

The visitors are looking more likely to win this one.

First, Ben Doak's excellent first touch opens up a chance and he forces Alex Palmer into a good save.

Then Emmanuel Latte Lath is close from the corner as his header from Finn Azaz's delivery is just off target.

  18. Postpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 1 October

    Luton 2-2 Oxford

Luton, down to ten men are pushing here in the closing minutes.

Mpanzu and Adebayo both get sights of goal but can't find the target.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 1 October

    Burnley 1-0 Plymouth

Memorable moment for Joe Hatch as the teenage forward comes on for his Plymouth debut, replacing Darko Gyabi.

His boss knows a thing or two about teenage strikers, you'd imagine.

  20. Postpublished at 21:35 British Summer Time 1 October

    QPR 1-3 Hull

That third goal from Liam Millar looks to have secured this one for Hull. Tim Walter is going to have a third straight win as his multi-national squad starts to gel.

QPR still can't find that home win.
