Managers are obsessed with 'dominance' and 'control' of a game. Despite Arteta saying they controlled and dominated the game, their xG was the same as United's and United had by far the better chances to win. Arsenal are great up until the box but nothing more than average when they're in it.

10 draws in the Premier League for Arsenal and it looks certain to be another season where they've put pressure on top spot but couldn't get over the line.

There is still the Champions League, of course.

But as he reaches 200 Premier League games in charge of Arsenal, how should Mikel Arteta's tenure at the club be viewed?

Above expectations for challenging for the title or disappointing for having not crossed over the line - yet?

  4. Martinelli flatters to deceive in returnpublished at 08:40 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

Gabriel Martinelli made his first appearance since the beginning of February on Sunday afternoon following his recovery from a hamstring injury.

He was brought on just before the hour mark at Old Trafford but struggled to have the desired impact.

Martinelli had 21 touches in the time he was on the field and blazed over a glorious chance in the dying minutes from just a few yards out.

His blushes were spared with that effort due to the offside flag being raised on the far side but it was a telling sign of rustiness - something the Gunners can ill afford at this stage of the season.

Declan Rice is obviously a great player and clearly he's a media darling, but whenever he scores, which is incredibly rare by the wy, it's like a national event. Despite pundits suggesting he could play further forward, he's a player with 19 career assists and 23 goals. Keane and Viera didn't score many but they're still regarded as great so we don't need to portray Rice as something he isn't.

It refers to Mikel Arteta criticising Bruno Fernandes following his first half free-kick.

Time for a quick look at Monday's back pages.

The Sun have used the headline 'Title Rice Is Over' in response to Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford following Declan Rice's goal that only proved to be enough for one point.

It was the first time since 1 December that Manchester United found themselves leading a Premier League game at half-time, ending a run of 14 consecutive matches in which they had failed to do so at the break.

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot speaking to BBC Match of the Day after making 200 appearances for the club: "When you sign for a big club like this, you want to live every moment. To achieve this milestone, it was a proud moment for me and my family.

"I am really happy with the journey and hopefully, there is many more to come. I'm really happy that I am here because I want to fight for it and we cannot be satisfied until we are at the top again.

"If we can control games and win 3-0, I would be more than happy but at the moment we need to find that way."

  10. What did Arteta say about title race in his news conference?published at 07:57 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

    Arsenal

While Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta got away with not answering a question about the title race being over immediately after the game, the question was of course asked once again when he sat down for his news conference shortly after.

This time, however, he did give a response.

"I don't want to say that," he said.

"Today, the frustration is that we haven't won a game. We know the urgency and we will have to win every single match to have a chance to do that.

"I don't think it is the right moment to talk about that."

  11. 'We need more Brunos' - Fernandes 'steps up all the time' for Man Utdpublished at 07:49 Greenwich Mean Time

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim feels the club would not be in their current mess if they had more players like Bruno Fernandes.

The United captain led from the front in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted the Portuguese was "too clever for us and the referee" for the way he manipulated the positioning of his first-half free-kick to give him a better chance to put United in front.

The ball was measured as being 11.2yards away from the wall after the match, rather than the 10 yards the rules state it should be.

Ex-Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given told BBC Match of the Day: "It was really good execution, but yes the wall was too far back.

"Maybe the referee just miscounted it, but it gives Bruno that advantage. With the ball being 11 yards away, Bruno can hit it with more pace."

Former United skipper Roy Keane might not be a fan of Fernandes given the manner in which the Irishman spoke of Fernandes on The Overlap podcast last week.

But Amorim wishes he had a few more like him.

"We need more Brunos, that is clear," he said.

"It's not just the quality and the character. He makes some mistakes but he is so decisive with and without the ball.

  12. Arteta makes swift exitpublished at 07:41 Greenwich Mean Time

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been very adamant over the course of the last few weeks that his side will not give up the title race, despite the gap seemingly becoming more and more out of reach.

However, when asked whether the now 15 point gap was "too much" in his post-match interview with Sky Sports on Sunday, Arteta was having none of it. He immediately walked off out of shot without giving an answer.

Simply a case of emotions running high after the game or a moment speaking a thousand words?

Mikel Arteta's 200th Premier League game as Arsenal manager was not so much a celebration as a wake for another title challenge that fell short.

Arsenal's nearly men produced another nearly performance in the 1-1 draw at Manchester United, a display that was so much of their season in microcosm, leaving them needing binoculars to see Liverpool, who lead the table by 15 points.

The Gunners weaved pretty patterns around Old Trafford with their 68.2% possession, but barely landed a serious blow on a United side short on quality and shorn of confidence until Declan Rice's crisp 74th-minute strike levelled Bruno Fernandes' trademark free-kick, which came in first-half stoppage time.

Arsenal have been fading for weeks, the failure to sign a recognised striker exposed as a flawed strategy, with injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz compounding the absence of key figure Bukayo Saka.

And their failed transfer policy came into sharp relief at Old Trafford when, with Arteta's side needing a winning goal to keep even their wafer-thin title chances alive, he turned to full-back Kieran Tierney, who is leaving for Celtic at the end of the season, rather than forward Raheem Sterling.

Sterling was a last-minute signing in the summer transfer window on loan from Chelsea, but has been unable to make any impact.

It appeared to be an Arteta vanity project as he believed he could revive a career that had come to a dead halt at Stamford Bridge, where Sterling was marginalised by manager Enzo Maresca, despite working with him during more successful times at Manchester City.

If proof of the deal's failure was needed, this was it. It was a bad fit when Arsenal desperately needed a goalscorer.

Chelsea moved back into the Premier League top four as Marc Cucurella's second-half strike secured a scrappy win against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.

It was the Spain left-back's fifth goal of the season - and second in successive league games after netting against Southampton.

Cucurella's crucial goal came on the hour mark, beating visiting keeper Mads Hermansen with a left-footed effort from 25 yards.

Chelsea had been frustrated until then, with Hermansen saving Cole Palmer's penalty midway through the first half following a trip on Jadon Sancho by Victor Kristiansen.

The miss ended Palmer's 100% record from the spot - having scored his previous 12 - and prolonged the playmaker's goalless run to nine matches in all competitions.

Leicester impressed during the first half and came close to opening the scoring in bizarre circumstances when Blues defender Tosin Adarabioyo headed against his own crossbar.

But that was as close as the Foxes came, with Enzo Maresca's men improving after the break and claiming the winner to leapfrog Manchester City and take a two-point advantage over the reigning champions.

Defeat for Leicester left them second bottom in the table, behind 18th-placed Ipswich on goal difference and six points adrift of Wolves in 17th.

Substitute Son Heung-min scored a late penalty as Tottenham came from two goals down to secure a draw against Bournemouth.

Bournemouth were heading for a routine away win after getting the better of exchanges in a wide-open game.

Marcus Tavernier latched on to Milos Kerkez's inviting cross to set Bournemouth on their way before Evanilson's lifted finish put the visitors firmly in control after half-time.

Spurs hit back in unorthodox circumstances when Pape Sarr's intended cross looped towards goals and left Kepa Arrizabalaga clutching at thin air.

Son, who came on at half-time, proved to be Tottenham's hero from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Kepa.

Both sides saw efforts hit the woodwork in the second period with Son's curling shot nicking the post and going wide, while Justin Kluivert's low-driven shot cannoned back into play.

The draw keeps Tottenham sitting 13th with Bournemouth climbing up one place to eighth and leaving them two points shy of sixth-placed Brighton.

  16. Two Salah penalties move Liverpool 15 points clearpublished at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time

Mohamed Salah scored two penalties as Liverpool came from behind to beat rock-bottom Southampton for the second time this season and move - at the time - 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League, which has been slightly reduced to 15 after Arsenal's draw.

The Reds were miles below their best after their energy-draining late win at Paris St-Germain on Wednesday - but all that matters at this stage of the season is results.

This takes them one step closer to the title and leaves Saints still in danger of the lowest Premier League points total ever.

The visitors allowed themselves to dream when Will Smallbone took advantage of a huge mix-up between Virgil van Dijk and Alisson to slot in from a tight angle.

But Reds boss Arne Slot made a triple substitution at half-time and Liverpool were much improved.

Darwin Nunez, perhaps fortunate not to be one of the ones replaced at the break, slotted in from Luis Diaz's cutback.

And then the Uruguayan striker was fouled by Smallbone for a penalty, which Mohamed Salah predictably dispatched with style.

Salah also netted another spot-kick late on, for his 27th goal of the season, after the video assistant referee spotted a Yukinari Sugawara handball.

Declan Rice's powerful strike gave Arsenal a point at Manchester United but did little to help their pursuit of Premier League pacesetters Liverpool.

Arsenal dominated the opening 45 minutes at Old Trafford but lacked any cutting edge and were punished in first-half stoppage time when United captain Bruno Fernandes curled a 25-yard free-kick past a badly positioned David Raya in goal.

Raya made amends with fine second-half saves from Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee before Arsenal finally found the end product with 16 minutes left.

United failed to clear and Rice sent a superb rising drive past Andre Onana at the Stretford End to give Arsenal a point - but it did little to dent Liverpool's seemingly unassailable lead at the top of the table as they stand 15 points clear of the Gunners, having played a game more.

It could have been worse for Arsenal as it took a miraculous double stop from Raya to keep out Fernandes in the dying seconds to prevent United taking all three points.
