Both sides make two changes apiece, with Djeidi Gassama and Michael Smith both back in the starting line-up for Sheffield Wednesday after coming off the bench during the Steel City derby a fortnight ago.

Dominic Iorfa and Svante Ingelsson make way for them, but defensive duo Michael Ihiekwe and Nathaniel Chalobah - who had been expected to feature in the matchday squad - both miss out again.

Cardiff have top scorer Callum Robinson back in the side after missing their 3-1 defeat to Blackburn, while Yakou Meite - who came off the bench in that game - earns his first start since August.

The pair replace Anwar El Ghazi, who made way for Meite against Rovers, and Chris Willock.

  2. 'We want to get more points from our performances' - Rohlpublished at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November

Sheffield Wed v Cardiff (12:30 GMT)

    Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl on how he wants the Owls to take more points from the coming games:

"We had some games where we could take more points, but for more points we have to improve and you see how close it is in the table at the moment, in both directions.

"One win means maybe you step up four positions and one loss you drop down.

"A good run is what my team and everybody demands and expects it's what we want to try and have a good run but, in this league, there are no guarantees.

"The guarantee is what we can do, and what I can promise you is that we work hard for every point and every win in the next weeks.

"And of course, we want to get more points from our performances than we have in the last few weeks."

  3. Burnley's stability is 'absolutely crucial' - Parkerpublished at 12:19 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November

Bristol City v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

    Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker said "stability" will "define" the Clarets' season following the last international break of the year:

"The most important thing in any team in any or organisation is stability. It’s my job as the leader of this team and this group of men and the whole football club.

"To bring context to that, It's just being that umbrella to protect that, and to bring real stability at this moment it is going to be absolutely crucial and it will define us.

"I often say it to the players that at 15:00 or 19:45 or whatever time that game is, we walk out and cross that line with one sole purpose and that’s to try and please our fans in the way we play and get three points and try and connect with them.

"I will make sure that is the driver constantly in terms of what our fans relate to."

  4. Managerless Coventry host high-flying Bladespublished at 12:18 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November

Coventry v Sheffield Utd (12:30 GMT)

Coventry are back home today in their first match at the CBS Arena since the surprise sacking of Mark Robins.

More than two weeks have passed since the two-time promotion winning manager was relieved of his duties, but large sections of Sky Blues fans will still feel aggrieved by what they see as an unwarranted divorce.

There appears to be no imminent sign of a replacement for Robins, though Frank Lampard remains the hot favourite for the job.

Where the new boss will pick up from remains unknown, but the Sky Blues have already shown what they are capable of after coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Championship leaders Sunderland in their first match since Robins left.

An international break later, and the Sky Blues find themselves up against second-paced Sheffield United who are on a four-match winning run.

It’s certainly another big ask for Coventry.

  5. Happy hunting ground for Claretspublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November

Bristol City v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

Burnley have won on their last three league visits to Ashton Gate and have also come out on top in six previous meetings with Bristol City.

The Robins might provide a tougher test today, though, having lost just one of their last 10 games (W4 D5) and ended Norwich’s year-long unbeaten home record with a 2-0 victory at Carrow Road last time out.

Liam Manning's side are perfectly poised to pounce on any slip-ups by those above them and could lift themselves closer to the play-off spots with victory.

The promotion-chasing Clarets ended a run of four games without a win when they beat Swansea 1-0 at Turf Moor before the international break two weeks ago.

One minor criticism levelled at Scott Parker's side is their slight struggle for goals. Since scoring nine in their first two games, Burnley have netted just another nine times in 13 matches.

They are, however, extremely resilient at the other end of the pitch and boast the best defence in the league with only six conceded.

  6. Riza's future remains unclearpublished at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November

Sheffield Wednesday v Cardiff (12:30 GMT)

Cardiff interim boss Omer RizaImage source, Rex Features

Omer Riza’s audition for the Cardiff manager’s job has been highly promising so far – but the prize of a rare away win might just secure him the part.

The Bluebirds have picked up since Riza took temporary charge a month ago after Erol Bulut paid the price for a dreadful start to the campaign, having gleaned just a single point from their first six games.

City owner Vincent Tan is yet to make a decision on Riza’s future, having met with the former Arsenal and West Ham striker in Malaysia last week, although a first win on the road since April would surely help his cause.

Opponents Sheffield Wednesday, who survived after a similarly wretched start last season, have lacked consistency so far this time around – particularly at Hillsborough, where they thrashed Plymouth 4-0 on the opening day but also slumped to a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Watford.

Wednesday, who go into today’s game in 15th place but just three points ahead of Cardiff in 22nd, will be smarting after their defeat at Bramall Lane in the Steel City derby just prior to the international break.

Blackburn's game with Portsmouth at Ewood Park has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

"Due to an unplayable pitch caused by torrential rain, today's match against Pompey at Ewood Park has been postponed by the match official," Rovers said in a post on X.

"We will announce details of the rearranged fixture in due course."

That's the first Championship fixture to fall victim to Storm Bert, while a few other games across the EFL have also been postponed.

Plymouth celebrate scoring in the 96th minute against WatfordImage source, Rex Features

Plymouth Argyle kicked off the Championship weekend in typically dramatic style in their 2-2 draw with Watford last night.

Andre Gray curled in a 96th minute equaliser against his former club to rescue a point for Wayne Rooney's side and deny the Hornets a vital rare away win.

Vakoun Bayo had given the visitors the lead when he bundled home in the eighth minute before Gray levelled things up midway through the first-half.

Ryan Porteous restored Watford's lead four minutes before the break from close-range after converting Mattie Pollock's cross, only for Gray to square things up at the death.

That is now the fifth goal the Pilgrims have scored in stoppage time at Home Park this season and means they have now earned six points in added time so far. Remarkable.
