More fine work from Monaco goalscorer Wilfried Singo, sliding in to intercept Morgan Rogers' dangerous cross from the byline.

That gives Villa a corner, but Singo is again there to hack it clear.

Roberto Mancini, a former Premier League title winning manager at Manchester City, is among those watching on in Monaco.

Mancini is currently out of work having coached the Saudi Arabia national side up until October.

Wilfried Singo is the man to have the only goal so far, but does some superb work in his normal central defensive role, getting in ahead of Youri Tielemans to stop the Belgian sliding a pass through to Ollie Watkins. The England man was almost clean through but not to be.

Morgan Rogers tries his luck first time for Villa after bustling work in the penalty area from Leon Bailey, but Rogers can't keep the strike down, leaning back as he sends it over the top.

It tells you the story for Villa right now that their best player at the moment is Martinez. The pace of Monaco, particularly out wide, is causing them all sorts of problems.

Villa are suddenly looking vulnerable as Monaco aim to grab a second. Eliesse Ben Seghir pulls the ball across the penalty area and Maghnes Akliouche hits it first time, but Emiliano Martinez flings himself to his left to get two hands to it to push the ball around the post.

Top save.

Sturm Graz, who are top of the Austrian Bundesliga, should score and just a minute later, they are punished by Atalanta.

Former Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta cuts the ball back for Mateo Retegui who slots in from close range to open the scoring.

The first header was brilliant and it was a great save from Martinez but he could do nothing but push it into the air.

You need to follow it in. There was no chance Singo was going to miss there. Monaco have been brilliant so far and have been up for it.

A chance for Villa as they break down the left. Lucas Digne crosses to the back post and Leon Bailey is there with the header, but his mistimes his jump, doesn't get any purchase on the header and it is easily dealt with by Radoslaw Majecki in the home goal.

Villa will be encouraged by how easily they got in though.

We were talking before the game against Rogers in particular who had a great start to the season and then ended up going wide a bit.

But look at him today, almost playing like a second striker and that understanding with Watkins is something we might see more of today.

Villa get into the Monaco penalty area through Morgan Rogers and he gives it to Leon Bailey. He then tries to go around the outside of home defender Christian Mawissa, but the Monaco man does well to usher the ball out as Bailey runs out of pitch.

Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is going to be the pantomime villain in this one, with the French fans still not forgetting his performance and subsequent antics when Argentina beat France in the 2022 World Cup final.

The ball is knocked back to him, with the home supporters unleashing boos in the direction of the keeper.

Monaco are not in great form but they have scored a few goals. I do like the look of the two line-ups but Monaco need a win so it will be quite open.

It has all been building to this last two games. This is when you expect an explosion of excitement and an explosion of goals.

Villa know that between now and the end of this stage, if they get four points out of six they will finish in the top eight, they won't have to play the play-off games which is a huge advantage domestically as well, and they get allegedly a better draw.

There is a huge amount on it and I am sure they will want to win it but if they don't they have Celtic in the final game at Villa Park which will be quite interesting.
