Last season, Sheffield United were the whipping boys of the Premier League and in particular at Bramall Lane.

Back in the Championship, they are unbeaten on their own patch so far this season.

Wednesday are showing them plenty of respect by dropping back into formation whenever they can.

  6. 'No better place for Ugbo to end goal drought'published at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

Sheff Utd v Sheff Wed (12:30 GMT)

    John Pearson
Former Sheffield Wednesday forward on BBC Radio Sheffield

As a professional footballer this is the game you'd want to play in.

Today Ike Ugbo comes into the lion's den and where better to end your goal drought?

The pressure is not on Wednesday, we have to patient. The longer it goes on at 0-0 the better it is for us.

  7. 'The strongest line-up Wilder could have gone with'published at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Chris Basham
Former Sheffield United defender on BBC Radio Sheffield

I think this is the strongest line-up Chris Wilder could have gone with for Sheffield United.

    It's a good line-up.

This will be one of the more fascinating in the last several years of this fixture.

In Chris Wilder and Danny Rohl we have two managers who like to go for it.

It makes for a better Steel City derby.

The noise is going to be spectacular, it really sets it up and it sends up the hairs on the back of your neck.

Hull City, Preston and Luton are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference, with Cardiff also on 15 points but with a goal difference one worse than North End.

Swansea would climb into the top-10 if they can follow their victory over Watford in midweek with a win at Burnley while Sheffield Wednesday would make the top half if they can follow-up their fine midweek win over Norwich this afternoon.

There's a reason why the Championship is the toughest division to predict, week-in, week-out. Take a look at this.

Three points separate the top three, then another three points separate the next seven clubs - West Brom could be fourth or ninth by tea time!

Further up the table there is more than local pride at stake for Sheffield United, they can go level on points with leaders Sunderland with a win over Wednesday, or take over at the top in their own right with a big win.

What an incentive ahead of the international break.

Sheff Utd v Sheff Wed (12:30 GMT)

These sides have been passing ships for much of the past 15 years or so, with this just the fifth meeting between the two since February 2012.

There's no doubting that both managers are fully aware what this means to their respective supporters.

Lifelong Blades fan Chris Wilder has an unbeaten record from his four previous derbies but he's yet to win one here at Bramall Lane.

Owls head coach Danny Rohl said people have been speaking about this match since Wednesday secured their Championship status last May and he said it would be "amazing" to get three points today.

A winner of any sort would end a streak of three successive 0-0s in this fixture.

Sheffield United make two changes from the XI that started the 2-1 win at Bristol City on Tuesday.

Midfielder Oli Arblaster comes back in to skipper the side and Crystal Palace loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is also in. Striker Kieffer Moore, who injured his calf after coming on as a sub at Ashton Gate, is out.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has chosen not to fix what wasn't broken and goes with the same team that began the 2-0 win over Norwich.

Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan and defender Dominic Iorfa are the only players from either starting line-up to have played in a Steel City derby before.

Full-back Max Lowe joined the Owls from United in the summer and is sure to get a warm reception...

One of the best contrasts ahead of this fixture comes in the two dugouts.

In the red corner, we have Chris Wilder. A Sheffield United fan, player, and now in his second spell as the Blades manager.

Just like Sean Bean's tattoo, Wilder is the personification of 100% Blade. And while promotion to the Premier League is the ultimate goal, taking the scalp of the local rivals is a good second.

In the blue corner sits Danny Rohl. The German, still only 35, has been in charge of Sheffield Wednesday since October 2023.

But the way he masterminded their escape from relegation last season earned him a special place in Hillsborough affections.

That was one thing, but if he can lead the Owls to a first win at Bramall Lane since 2009, his popularity will be through the roof.

To kick things off this Sunday, we have an absolute Championship cracker - the Steel City derby.

Not as regular on the calendar as derbies in Manchester, Merseyside or North London, do not underestimate what this derby means in Sheffield.

It is a huge occasion as Blades and Owls prepare to meet for the 132nd time.

Wednesdayites will head to downtown Bramall Lane hoping to stop United from moving joint-top of the league.

The Blades have been more consistent, but the Owls' own inconsistency can make them a dangerous animal to predict.
