Early leaders Crewe thrashed Fleetwood 4-1 in League Two to record their highest Football League win over their previously unbeaten hosts.

Toby Mullarkey's second own goal of the season set impressive Alex on their way to a fourth successive league win after just 53 seconds.

Only skipper Jay Lynch's string of fine saves prevented Crewe from extending their advantage until Josh March doubled the visitors' lead after 22 minutes.

The former Harrogate and Forest Green marksman superbly lobbed Lynch after collecting one of Owen Lunt's two assists to register his first goal for the Cheshire side.

If Fleetwood hoped for a second-half revival they suffered that sinking feeling for a third time after 50 minutes when Lunt again picked the decisive pass and teenager Calum Agius fired home.

Cod Army boss Pete Wild's frustrations boiled over and he received one of 11 yellow cards dished out by referee Thomas Kirk.

There was more pain for Wild and Fleetwood as defender Reece Hutchinson made it 4-0 after 55 minutes before substitute James Norwood scored a late penalty consolation.
