Femi Azeez celebrates scoring Millwall's opener at Loftus Road
Millwall upset QPR to hand Rangers boss Julien Stephan his first home loss and climb into the Championship play-off places.
Rangers began intent on building on their six-game unbeaten run before Alex Neil's side seized control of the match late in the first half.
Femi Azeez gave Millwall the lead on 36 minutes before Mihailo Ivanovic headed home to double their advantage in first-half stoppage time.
QPR substitute Rumarn Burrell pulled one back late on and Millwall survived a nervy finale to maintain their unbeaten run on the road.
Neil deserves huge credit for making the Lions promotion contenders again on a relatively low budget and they have conceded just four away goals.
Kiwi Max Crocombe, signed in the summer from Burton Albion, was quickly into the action on his league debut for Millwall, saving a rasping volley from Paul Smyth in the opening seconds.
The lively Smyth also saw a left-foot effort glance the top of the bar with Crocombe looking on.
QPR goalkeeper Paul Nardi then made a fine save to touch Will Smallbone's left-foot drive just over.
Rangers were the better side, but Millwall turned the game on its head to score twice before the end of the first half.
First Billy Mitchell found Azeez with a defence-splitting pass in the 36th minute and he netted his second of the season from the rebound after Nardi parried his first effort.
Then in the fourth minute of added time, Ivanovic nodded home his first of the season from close range from Azeez's deep cross.
QPR struggled to respond in the second half and their hopes were raised when Koki Saito set up fellow substitute Burrell to pull a goal back five minutes from time.
But Burrell then headed over from a great chance in stoppage time and QPR let Millwall off the hook.
'We're a difficult team to play against' - reaction
Millwall boss Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:
"I do think we'll get better and we've been playing well in games. Today was not one of them, but I think we're a difficult team to play against.
"You have to win when you're not playing well in this league to be effective and that's what we've done today.
"The most important thing to do is to win your games. Then you look at the performance and we know we can play better.
"Today we found ourselves 2-0 up without playing really well, but from our perspective, it's about getting points on the board and making sure we put ourselves in a strong position."
Neil: 'The most important thing is the three points!'
QPR boss Julien Stephan told BBC Radio London:
"Football is very simple. If you have big chances, you have to take your chances to score and today we had enough chances, especially in the first 20, 25 minutes when we had three, four, five big chances.
"We scored and then we had an opportunity to score at the end with Rumarn, a big chance.
"We have to be efficient and they were more efficient than us. That's why they won. Efficiency makes the difference in football. Now we have to continue to learn, to work and to stay positive."
Stephan: 'We have to take our chances!'
