Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have released the following statement before tonight's game at Old Trafford:

"Specialised officers will be out and about across Trafford and Manchester city centre on Thursday (23 January 2025) to support the Rangers-Manchester United football fixture.

"In the run up to the match, we have worked closely with both clubs, supporter groups, partner agencies and members of the public to build on the work we have already done at previous football events to work with organisers and the local authority to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time.

"In Manchester we police many high-profile football matches each year and our response to this is no different to any other fixture. Our main priority is to keep people safe and to minimise disruption for the wider public.

"You will likely notice an increased policing presence across Manchester City Centre and around Old Trafford football stadium involving officers from our Specialist Operations branch. You may also see officers also patrolling key routes to Old Trafford stadium on our road, train and tram networks."

Is Walker the best right-back?published at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time

A lot of noise over the past couple of years about Trent Alexander-Arnold maybe being the best RB in PL history. Now Kyle Walker being touted as such. Baffling that Gary Neville never seems to be the immediate and obvious choice. Most don't get close to his career, but perhaps a victim of self-deprecation.

    Andy, a Villa fan, Woking.

Best right back in Premier League history is Gary Neville.

    Gary in Salford

Walker is nowhere near the best right back in Premier League history - poor technic, crossing, average passing. His speed got him and his team out of trouble, nothing more… it’s worked for him, fair play, but no.

Kyle Walker was an average right back with phenomenal pace that covered up many mistakes. As that pace declines he becomes just an average right back.

Despite being a Liverpool supporter through and through, I’d have to say Gary Neville as the best right back in Premier League history. As infuriating as it was, I always thought he was totally reliable.

    Neil, Fareham

Kyle Walker is definitely up there. Gary Neville got to be in with a good shout surely? Cheers

Deloitte's Jennifer Haskell, speaking on Radio 4 about the growth of the women's game: "It's really exciting to see the pace of the growth in the women's game.

"I think as we continue to recognise how global this game is, just outside of the top clubs analysed in this group were clubs from Japan as well. Recognising the globalisation of women's football is really exciting."

  13. 'Women's game growing rapidly'published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time

Deloitte's analysis of 15 of the leading revenue-generating women's clubs showed total revenue of more than 100m euros for the first time.

Barcelona remain top for the third successive year, with revenue climbing 26% to £15.1m.

Arsenal move from fifth to second with £15.1m overall, including a 64% increase in matchday revenue to £4.3m, helped by hosting six Women's Super League (WSL) games at Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea are third (£11.3m), Manchester United fourth (£9m) and Real Madrid fifth (£8.9m), with eight WSL clubs in the top 15.

With the exception of Spain's Liga F, leagues in each of the big five European football markets have a title sponsor.

"It is clear that the women's game is growing rapidly across metrics including and beyond revenue," said Jennifer Haskel, knowledge and insight lead in Deloitte's sports business group.

  15. Real break 1bn euro barrier to top money leaguepublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time

Real Madrid have become the first football club to generate more than 1bn euros in annual revenue, according to analysis by Deloitte.

The Spanish club retain top spot in Deloitte's Money League study with revenue of 1.05bn euros (£883m) from a 2023-24 season in which they won La Liga and the Champions League.

Manchester City are again second with revenue of £708m.

Paris St-Germain (£681m), Manchester United (£651m) and Bayern Munich (£646m) complete the top five.

Aston Villa enter the top 20 after competing in Europe last season for the first time since 2011.

Nine Premier League clubs are in the top 20, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle and West Ham retaining their places.

Lyon are the only other new club, with Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt dropping out.

Revenues for the top 20 clubs rose by 6% to a record £9.47bn.

Kyle Walker is certainly up there in terms of best ever, his style suited the time but he maybe won't get the respect he deserves because it's all about inverted full-backs now. Having said this, I would say the likes of Neville and Lauren are above him. The greatest the PL has ever seen in my opinion is Ivanovic. Multiple PL titles, clutch of goals in big league games and European knockouts, and one hell of a defender. Highly under-rated.
