Summary

  1. Postpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 9 August

    QPR 1-1 Preston

Daniel Iversen in the Preston goal is forced into a very smart save by Karamoko Dembele's well hit shot.

  2. Postpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 9 August

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Swansea

    Boro are beginning to purr.

Delano Burgzorg shows great intent to bounce up off the deck after being brought down.

He pokes the ball to Tommy Conway on the left of the area who lays it into the path of Hayden Hackney and only a vital header from Cameron Burgess prevents his powerful strike arrowing towards the far corner.

  3. 'Sargent showed desire'published at 16:15 British Summer Time 9 August

    Norwich 1-1 Millwall

    Rob Newman
Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

That is a lucky goal but Josh Sargent will take that all day. He showed the desire but it's really poor from the keeper.

  4. goal

GOAL: Norwich 1-1 Millwallpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 9 August

    Josh Sargent (55 mins)

The lead lasts just three minutes as the hosts draw level in bizarre circumstances.

Josh Sargent deserves credit for not giving up on what looked a lost cause but Steven-Andreas Benda hesitates too long on a routine clearance after a backpass.

With Sargent leaping in to block and turning his back Benda fires the ball into the back of the Norwich striker and it loops up and into the goal.

  5. Postpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 9 August

    Stoke 0-0 Derby

Kayden Jackson prepares to shoot for Derby at StokeImage source, PA Media

I mentioned Stoke going three games without a goal at the end of last season.

They actually only managed 45 in 46 across the whole campaign. That's three fewer than Cardiff City who finished bottom.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 16:13 British Summer Time 9 August

    West Brom 1-0 Blackburn

Bright start to the second half and Isaac Price pounces on a slip from Sondre Tronstad and drives into the Blackburn box before seeing a low strike towards the near post turned around the upright by Balazs Toth.

  7. 'Neghli took that really well'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 9 August

    Norwich 0-1 Millwall

    Richard Langley
Former QPR midfielder on BBC Radio London

Camiel Neghli took that really well, on the half-volley.

It makes for a good game now because Norwich have to come out and show something

  8. goal

GOAL: Norwich 0-1 Millwallpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 9 August

    Camiel Neghli (52 mins)

It is against the run of play but Millwall lead.

Tristan Crama has put in a couple of shocking crosses but it is a case of third time lucky. After getting to the right byline he fires a low cross which evades everyone.

Camiel Neghli gets it at the back corner and rifles it from 15 yards inside Vladan Kovacevic's near post.

  9. goal

GOAL: Middlesbrough 1-0 Swanseapublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 August

    Dael Fry (51 mins)

    His first goal since 2022.

The Rob Edwards era is up and running.

Morgan Whittaker's curling corner is met by a stooping angled header from the big defender Dael Fry and is flies across Lawrence Vigouroux and into the net.

  10. 'Norwich have to get back into the game'published at 16:09 British Summer Time 9 August

    Norwich 0-0 Millwall

    Rob Newman
Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

Millwall have started the second half on the front foot. Norwich have to get back into this game because the way they ended the first half they were on top.

  11. goal

GOAL: QPR 1-1 Prestonpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 9 August

    Milutin Osmajic (48 mins)

The away side level things up quickly in the capital!

It's an absolute peach from Montenegro international Milutin Osmajic.

Keeper Daniel Iversen comes and gets a cross and wastes zero time launching a kick down the park that beats the home defenders and Osmajic keeps his cool to deftly lob the ball over Joe Walsh and into the net.

  12. Postpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 9 August

    West Brom 1-0 Blackburn

Hannah Hampton, the hero of England's Euro 2025 triumph last month, has been on the pitch at half-time in an Albion shirt.

Can the Lionesses keeper inspire her side to a clean sheet, which would mean a winning start to the new season?

Just the three goals in the first half of our six matches, that'll never do...

Luckily 2025-26 is all about late drama in the Championship, so best strap in for the final 45 minutes.

    We're off again...

Time never stands still and nor does the Championship it seems.

Of the teams who started last season in this division only one manager remains in the same position - John Mousinho is the last man standing on deck while watching others depart or merely swap one badge for another.

Struggling to keep up? Well fortunately we've got it all covered for you with our comprehensive Championship preview to get you fully up to date with what has been happening over the summer.

The perfect way to spend your half-time break.

  15. 'Albion have done well but need another goal'published at 15:56 British Summer Time 9 August

    HT: West Brom 1-0 Blackburn

    Tony 'Bomber' Brown
West Brom's all-time leading goalscorer on BBC Radio WM

Ryan Mason will be delighted with the first half performance.

Jayson Molumby has been superb, he's been more controlled with his tackling.

It was a well taken goal from Isaac Price, he's just slotted it in. He's done well in the position he's been asked to play.

Albion have done well and they've won the midfield battle. Hopefully they can get another goal because 1-0 can be a little bit precarious.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 9 August

    West Brom 1-0 Blackburn

Albion have a deserved lead at the break, but when was one goal ever enough?

Isaac Price looks a class act and it was he who tucked the hosts into the lead on 15 minutes after Darnell Furlong's long throw caused havoc in the Rovers box.

Yuki Ohashi has come closest for the visitors with an angled effort which was blocked at the near post by keeper Josh Griffiths and also wanted a penalty after a tussle with Torbjorn Heggem just before the break.

Valerien Ismael has work to do if he is to maintain Blackburn's fine record against the Baggies, back on his old Hawthorns stomping ground.

  17. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 9 August

    West Brom 1-0 Blackburn

Ooooof. Blackburn might well have had a penalty.

Yuki Ohashi gets the wrong side of Torbjorn Heggem on the right of the area and goes down under his challenge as he tries to turn into the middle.

David Webb is unmoved, despite appeals from the Japanese striker.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 9 August

    Oxford United 0-1 Portsmouth

Oxford United go close just before the break Stan Mills firing in a cross to Will Lankshear only for Regan Poole to just do enough to put him off.

The subsequent corner comes to nothing and Oxford go in trailing.

    Pompey lead at half-time.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 9 August

    Norwich 0-0 Millwall

No goals from either side as they goal in all square.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 9 August

    QPR 1-0 Preston

The home side have had the better of it and they have the lead to show for it too, albeit through a Ben Whiteman own goal.
