This one won't finish 0-0, I guarantee it.

Kirsty Hanson charges down the right but her cross into the box is too close to the Palace keeper.

A great counter from Crystal Palace there, straight from the Aston Villa attack. Should have put it into the back of the net.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time

    Aston Villa 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Great game already!

Mille Gejl leads a Palace counter and dribbles all the way into the box. Her effort is straight at Villa keeper Sabrina D'Angelo and then D'Angelo gets across to keep out Indiah-Paige Riley's follow-up with her feet.

All Aston Villa, inside the first two minutes.

Rachel Daly drives and has a shot tipped behind by Palace keeper Shae Yanez, and then Jordan Nobbs has a pop and Yanes does very well to dive to her left and keep it out.

The pressure is on Aston Villa today at their home ground. They are playing the newly-promoted side in Crystal Palace and are without a win. They need the three points today to kickstart their season. Hopefully we are in for a competitive game and I hope there are goals today.

Twenty-nine seconds tick by, with Villa winning the ball back and holding on to it.

They've already done better than Palace's last opponents, Everton, who let one in in that time.

The players are out at Villa Park. Crystal Palace have been impressive this season, but this is a real test.

Villa may have struggled for results, but their performance last time out against Manchester United was brilliant.

    They are a proper team.

It's a massive leap [from Championship to WSL] and we have seen time and time again teams come up and go straight back down. Crystal Palace had two big losses early in the season, but since then they have settled and seem to have found their form.

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace (14:00 GMT)

It's a difficult one because of the players they have in the Aston Villa squad. They have experienced internationals and experienced WSL players. They have goalscorers but they are missing scoring those goals. Football is about momentum and confidence and Aston Villa must have confidence after that performance [against Manchester United].

  19. Palace need to stay groundedpublished at 13:35 Greenwich Mean Time

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace (14:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Laura Kaminski wants her side to "keep our feet on the ground" as they prepare to face struggling Aston Villa.

WSL newcomers Palace have picked up points in three of their seven games this season and are two points above Sunday's opponents.

"We mustn’t get carried away in terms of where we have come from and where we are at," she said.

"We know this is early days for us. If you think about teams that have been in the WSL for several seasons, we have been there for seven games. We need to remember where we are at."

  20. De Pauw wants Villa to be 'relentless and clinical'published at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace (14:00 GMT)

Robert de Pauw says his Aston Villa side need to be more "relentless and clinical" as they seek their first WSL win of the season against Crystal Palace.

Villa have drawn three and lost four of seven league matches so far, including a credible goalless draw against Manchester United last weekend.

"If you look at the the data and the percentages of possession it was in our direction. So that's a good sign," De Pauw said of the United draw, which kept Villa above bottom side Everton on goal difference.

"We are quite good up to the final third of the pitch and the way we build up. The last part is also up to the players.

"The players have to show their quality and creativity, to be more clinical in that part of the game.

"We should be more ruthless and relentless in in defending and clinical and ruthless in scoring. That should be the next step for us."
