I’m still in shock , seeing us lift the trophy yesterday feels like a dream. On the brighter side of life , my heart rate is back to normal and not 115.

Recriminations will certainly begin in earnest now at Old Trafford, but let's concentrate on the joy of victory shall we?

Tottenham fans have been waiting for this moment for 17 years - that's when they last saw their team lift a trophy.

So let's hear from some of them now...

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes also discussed his possible exit from Old Trafford, saying he would be willing to leave if the club wanted to "do some cashing in":

"I have always been honest. If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it's what it is. Football sometimes is like this.

"I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go. I'm eager to do more, to be able to bring the club to the great days.

"The day that the club thinks that I'm too much or it's time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it. But I've always said it and I keep my word in the same way."

Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United: Ruben Amorim on Europa League final defeat

Ruben Amorim, meanwhile, opened the conversation on his future in his post-match news conference.

Manchester United went into Wednesday's final on the back of an unbeaten run of 14 games in the Europa League, which was in stark contrast to the form they have shown in the Premier League.

"I have nothing to show to the fans," said Amorim, after defeat ensured United would miss out on European football next season.

"So, in this moment it is a little bit of faith.

"Let's see. I am always open. If the board and fans feel I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation.

"But I will not quit. I am really confident in my job. And as you see, I will not change anything in the way I do things."

Manchester United are 16th in the Premier League after losing 18 of their 37 games.

For only the second time since English clubs returned to the European stage in 1990, there will be no continental campaign to look forward to.

  6. 'We got it done'published at 07:22 British Summer Time 22 May

Match-winner Brennan Johnson said he felt Tottenham winning a trophy was the perfect way to silence the critics:

"All the fans get battered, we get battered for not winning a trophy. We had to get the first one, I'm so happy. Ever since I came here it has been 'Tottenham, good team but can't get it done', but we got it done.

"This season has not been good at all, not one of us players care about that now. This club has not won a trophy for 17 years, it means so much."

Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United: Ange Postecoglou reacts to Europa League final win

There were certainly plenty of doubters that this Tottenham side could show the kind of grit and determination required to clinch a first piece of silverware in 17 years and first European trophy since 1984 following a disastrous league campaign.

Ange Postecoglou's Spurs went into Wednesday's Europa League final down in 17th place in the Premier League having lost 21 of their 37 games.

Reports suggest that the Australian may yet lose his job as manager, yet their run to the Europa League final in Bilbao showed that this group was capable of defying expectation when it mattered.

"To quote my favourite Australian prime minister Paul Keating, he said after an unlikely victory 'this is one for the true believers'," said Postecoglou.

"This is certainly one for the true believers."

  9. Good morningpublished at 07:11 British Summer Time 22 May

    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd

Don't worry, we won't be going through a blow-by-blow account of Wednesday night's Europa League final.

The only details you really need to know is that Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham side put in a determined display after getting their noses in front with a scrappy first half goal from Brennan Johnson that befitted the quality of the game.

Micky van de Ven defied physics with an acrobatic goal-line clearance from a Rasmus Hojlund header in the second half, while Spurs stopper Guglielmo Vicario sealed victory with a smart save late in the game to keep out a header from Manchester United's Luke Shaw.

The win ensured Tottenham will march on into the Champions League next season while United face a first campaign without European football since 2014-15.

Stick with us for all the reaction from both camps.

    Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd

Tottenham players Sergio Reguilon and James Maddison held up a banner with a grinning Ange Postecoglou holding the Europa League trophy above his now prophetic quote:

"I don't usually win things, I ALWAYS win things in my second year."

After Postecoglou's side put in an uncharacteristically gritty display in Bilbao to beat Manchester United 1-0 in a forgettable Europa League final, the game's only goalscorer, Brennan Johnson, declared:

"He has done his job. He said he wins in the second year and he has, if there's ever a time for a mic drop, it's now."
