Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told BBC Sport: "Difficult. We had chances but unfortunately couldn’t score. [Southampton were] playing to defend and defend and defend and waste time. We take that point still, it’s in our hands.

"Didn’t expect them to defend so deep. Defensive we were so good but unfortunately we missed the last actions.

"He [Erling Haaland] didn’t expect to play as any minutes but the way the game was played we needed people in the box.

"That point was really important."

Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva speaking to BBC Sport: "Very simple in my opinion. We were the best team on the pitch, the first 30, 35 minutes was the level we want. Last 10 minutes we started to lose some of the main things we had to be in control of the game.

"It is the story of the last three or four games. Goals have come from set-pieces. We have to be willing to fight, do our job well and we didn't. It's about concentration and focus. We have to blame ourselves because it didn't happen before but it did in the last few weeks."

On conceding the two quick-fire goals: "That moment was very tough for us, we had time to react but 3-1 was difficult to react. The moments that we lost the focus and concentration played a big part on the game."

On his side's hopes of securing European football: "We have to correct the things which happened with us in the last three or four games. In these decisive moments of the season, if you want to be there fighting you cannot lose concentration. Two big games for us [coming up]."

Everton

Everton manager David Moyes speaking to BBC Sport: "It didn't look [like it would go] that way after the first 20, 25 minutes. I thought we were terrible on the ball but we stuck at it. We are a resilient crew and the players did a good job in the end.

"Michael Keane was terrific today, he was a proper centre-half. Keano scored a really good header, it was a really good goal."

On Beto's development: "He's done great, he's improving. If he was a 19-year-old striker you'd say he's got a bit to go, he's not but he's certainly improving. Let's hope he can get goals in the remaining games.

"I have been pleased [with performances away from home]. It was a worry for me how this game would go [missing key players] but great credit to the players, we hung in a little bit but certainly improved in the second half."

On referee Darren England standing by his decision not to award Fulham a penalty after being sent to the pitchside monitor: "I clapped him. I would have had a Mexican wave. I saw it on the ipad and I saw the boy was running so I don't know where you'd expect his hands to be. Isn't it great we have someone who is willing to go to the screen and stick with his decision? We want referees to go by their own decision, and from what I've seen the correct decision."

On next week's final game at Goodison Park: "I have just said to the players we have the biggest game of the season next week, and we are all ready for it."

The sun is out in Bournemouth and there's a buoyant atmosphere in the stands - both sets of supporters are dreaming of European football next season.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The players gave everything and we competed well against one of the form sides in the league.

On his team's spirit: "That has been there in abundance and that has been a group who has had that. We haven't given up and that is going to be really important to the next stage of the journey. We pushed really hard for the goal at the end and we didn't get it. We've got to keep working to improve. Brentford have got one of the best attacking records and that was decisive today."

On Brentford's goal: "It was a really good delivery. I think the VAR was a problem as it has been in many games this season. Across the season, the stoppages in the game, I don't think it is working well. The stoppages for the people in the stadium. The decisions are marginal and subjective. I think there have been a few times where it has had a negative impact in the game actually."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton midfielder Bajan Gruda, speaking to Sky Sports about scoring his first ever goal for Brighton: "It was a very important game. Especially for us to go up in the league and we are happy that we won the game.

"It was a hard season for me and I'm really happy to score my first goal. I'm happy the guys come to me and celebrated the goal with me.

"I think you can see from the goal how many feelings are - it means a lot to me."

Justin Kluivert's very much settled at Bournemouth. He has the trust of his manager [Andoni Iraola] and he's come into his own where he's taking responsibility. Those spells in other leagues has probably benefitted him playing in different styles.

Everton

Everton defender Michael Keane speaking to Sky Sports: "I didn't think we were really at it in the first half but we managed to get back into the game. They had a lot of the ball but I think we controlled the game.

"The manager had a few words for us at half-time. He wasn't happy with the intensity and the pressing. We had to give it more and we did."

On scoring: "Really happy. I know Dwight [McNeil] can put a great cross in and I know the gaffer has been desperate for us to score from a set-piece."

And on next weekend's final home game at Goodison Park: "It will be a really emotional day. To come here and pick up three points is great and hopefully we can take that into next week."

Brighton & Hove Albion

On scoring 10 goals during this Premier League campaign: "It is a good milestone to have and I feel like it could have been more. I'm looking forward to improving. We have two more games left and hopefully I'll get some more [goals]."

On Brajan Gruda scoring his first ever Premier League goal: "Special moment to get your first Premier League goal.

"He has worked hard and he has kept plugging away. That's the right mindset we need to have."

Welbeck has had spells in and out of playing because of injuries. As a striker you need a run of games and confidence and he is back now and he has had to transition under different styles. He has stepped up today.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Very happy that the players showed this performance. They stuck to the plan and defended quite well.

"Second half, we defended quite well. In possession we could do it better, but I was happy to use the chance to score the second goal."

On Brajan Gruda scoring his first goal for Brighton: "It is always difficult when a German makes a compliment to a German.

"I had to give him one because he's sacrificed a lot and he has suffered a lot.

"He's training very hard and today he made himself a big presence. We are all happy for him."

On European aims: "I'm not thinking about Europe. I'm thinking about how we can win the next game."

Ipswich Town

Ipswich forward Liam Delap speaking to PLP: "We really battled and stuck with it until the end but unfortunately it wasn't enough. We have got to look at ourselves and do better. It was a bad goal to concede.

On his missed chance: "I enjoy individual battles and it was unlucky today. Didn't do enough today because we didn't get the win."

On playing for the fans with the last match of the season being at Portman Road: "We owe it to them, we have to give 110% and hopefully we can finish the season on a high."

This should be a cracking game. Aston Villa really need a win to boost their hopes of making the top five, but how can I back against a Bournemouth side that beat Arsenal last time out?

Part of my predictions strategy last week was to back the teams who are going for the Champions League places, but I don't think you can just ignore how well a team like Bournemouth are playing.

Pride is one of the emotions that fuels football fandom and it was prominent at full-time at St Mary’s Stadium.

An explosion of joy as Southampton held Manchester City to a goal-less draw as though it meant something in terms of Premier League survival.

Instead, as grown men in front of me embraced, the celebrations represented the preservation of some dignity. A meagre 12th point of campaign means Southampton avoid a share with 2007/08 Derby County of the unwanted record for the fewest points in a Premier League season.

Their team might be long since relegated but the Saints fans were walking a bit taller as they headed for home.
