    Newport 0-1 Bristol Rovers

    Lee Mansell
Former Bristol Rovers midfielder on BBC Radio Bristol

Luke Thomas was very unlucky there it has clearly hit his body - he is saying, "Look, it hit my ribs!"

That is an outrageous decision, that should be 2-0 Rovers.

    Newport 0-1 Bristol Rovers

Luke Thomas thought he had a second just a minute later but it looks to have been controversially ruled out for handball.

The ball appeared to hit his hip and then his arm as he closed down the goalkeeper's clearance.

    Third time lucky!

Luke Thomas smashes home from close range after Newport failed to clear Alfie Change's cross after Fabrizio Cavegn was twice denied!

  4. Postpublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

The ball is in the net but Bobby Kamwa is offside.

A warning sign for Bristol Rovers though. Their high line held there but Newport have real pace up front.

International break? Not to worry. This is the EFL so there are stories and subplots around every corner.

There might only be six games gone but the heat is already being turned up on the strugglers and you don't have to tell Peterborough's Darren Ferguson and Plymouth's Tom Cleverley that, following considerable investment, they need to start winning.

Meanwhile, Bradford City, promoted in the final seconds of the final day of last season, have the chance to go top of League One as they meet another newbie enjoying life in the third tier, Doncaster Rovers.

In League Two, first against third makes the derby between Gillingham and Bromley that bit tastier, while Walsall and Chesterfield resume battle after last year's play-off semi-final.

  7. 'All credit has to go to Newport'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 6 September

    HT: Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

    Lee Mansell
Former Bristol Rovers midfielder on BBC Radio Bristol

You would like to think there is a lot more to come in the second half.

But you have to give credit to Newport in that first half, they really restricted Rovers, especially in possession of the football.

This Newport team have pressed, harried and launched balls, which I didn't think was going to happen in this game.

Bristol are a real possession-based side and Newport haven't given them a sniff of the ball.

I can only think of four or five passages of play where Bristol have been able to cut open the Newport midfield.

All credit has to go to Newport.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 6 September

Not the best half of football I've ever seen. You can sense the tension and lack of confidence in the air.

Ciaran Brennan's shot at goal aside, there has been nothing of note to report. Newport have held their own and Bristol Rovers have controlled the ball for most of the half but we are lacking on quality.

The first goal could be crucial. More commentary cliches as I think of them second half.

  10. 'A tough watch at times'published at 13:17 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

    Lee Mansell
Former Bristol Rovers midfielder on BBC Radio Bristol

It has been a tough watch at times, there has been no flow to the game, the first half has lacked any quality.

The slightest touch and the players are just going down.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 6 September

Curse of the text commentator? Macauley Southam-Hales goes into the book for holding back Michael Reindorf.

  13. 'Newport's energy starting to dissipate'published at 13:05 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

    Chris Spittles
    BBC Radio Bristol commentator

Rovers are looking to get on the ball a bit more now, and the effort and energy that Newport put in the opening 30 minutes is starting to dissipate.

Bristol look like they are back in the game.

  14. Postpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

Macauley Southam-Hales got caught in two minds on the right, and his cross was too close to the goalkeeper.

He looked offside to be honest, but more progress for Rovers who now look in control.

But their final ball isn't there yet.

  15. Postpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

A little bit better from the visitors in the last few minutes.

Fabrizio Cavegn just had a shot at goal and Promise Omochere tried to get on the end of a deflection, but he was offside.

  16. 'Great counter-attack from Rovers'published at 12:54 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

    Lee Mansell
Former Bristol Rovers midfielder on BBC Radio Bristol

That was a great counter-attack from Rovers.

Alarm bells were ringing in the Rovers box defensively, and they just manage to get it away and it was one box to the other within seconds.

  17. Postpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers look like they're getting frustrated. Jack Sparkes has just fired over from distance.

20 minutes gone and there is no real pattern to the game.

  18. 'Newport on the charge'published at 12:50 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

    Chris Spittles
    BBC Radio Bristol commentator

Bristol Rovers are looking to calm things down here, and so far Newport are just charging all over the pitch.

Newport are really trying to change their fortune.

    Nobody has settled yet.

  20. Postpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 6 September

    Newport 0-0 Bristol Rovers

    That was strange...

Anthony Glennon was shaping up for a long throw into the Rovers box, but opted to go short and Newport eventually gave a throw away themselves.
