That one is recycled by the hosts before Ederson, back in goal after Stefan Ortega played against Brentford, comes off his line to gather a cross from deep superbly.

And we are under way. As at all games this season, Portman Road is absolutely packed out.

Remember, this is a team that were halfway up League One when Kieran McKenna came in to the club in December 2021.

There is a minute's applause at Portman Road for former Manchester City forward Denis Law, who died at the age of 84 on Friday.

Earlier today, Manchester United paid an emotional tribute to former striker Law before their match against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

Ipswich Town have stunned Chelsea at Portman Road and also won at Tottenham and Wolves on their travels.

It will be their best result of the season though if they can stun the reigning champions.

Manchester United

Manchester United have lost 10 of their 22 Premier League games this season, the earliest into a league campaign that they have hit double figures for defeats since 1989-90 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest goalscorer Elliot Anderson speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We started really bright but made it hard for ourselves in the second half. Ultimately we got the three points and I'm really happy.

"We set out to attack both games with the same mentality. Southampton were really good midweek against Manchester United so we knew it was going to be hard for us. I've been working hard for that and the lads have been telling me to shoot. When I got space I thought I'd just bang it.

"The manager said it's always hard when you've got something to lose. We needed those three points because there are teams creeping up behind us."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou talking to Sky Sports: "It is a difficult result. We struggled to really get in the game in the first half and that gave Everton and momentum. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb but the players certainly tried to claw the game back but we just fell short.

"We couldn't really take control of the game. We struggled to get any traction in terms of with and without the ball and that allowed to get in behind us. We had some chances where we probably should have capitalised early on, but in the end it wasn't enough.

"We are pretty stretched. We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. We weren't in total control of our organisation and Everton capitalised on that and we paid the price for it. Radu [Dragusin] had to come off because of the deep cut and restructure.

"Second half we had the fair share of the game. We started strongly and I thought Richarlison made a difference and a presence and Mikey Moore gave us something on the left."

On the transfer market: "There will be urgency but it doesn't need me to say it, everybody can see that. I have no issues with how the club are going about it, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help that is for sure and hopefully over the next 10 days or so we'll find a solution. It is really tricky, we're not the only ones in the market. The club are trying hard."

Does your faith waiver? "No it doesn't. If you look at the situation we're in, it will eventually dissipate. I certainly hope and believe it will. We'll give ourselves the opportunity to get consistency in performance and results. I certainly haven't lost belief or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half that they haven't either."

Everton

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin talking to Sky Sports: "I am really pleased. It has been a tough patch for myself. I'm delighted with how we went today, we needed a win for the lads and the club.

"Everything clicked today. You go through periods where you're not hitting the back of net or getting the rub of the green. We were defensively solid and built from that.

"I have been in the Premier League a long time now so it is not my first rodeo."

Southampton

Southampton manager Ivan Juric speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "In the first half, we are not competitive and that is what happened. We played with heart and intensity and we scored. That is how we have to score.

"I didn't speak with them (at half-time). We are a competitive team but if we are down 10% then we are not competitive. I hope a first half like today never happens again. They score the first two goals, that is ridiculous.

"Second half we fight and score twice. Aina saved another one. At Manchester United for 80 minutes, in the second half today, we were good. We are not ready for 90 minutes and that is a real pity."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goalscorer Georginio Rutter, speaking to Premier League Productions: "We are happy with three points today. It's good fans here [at Old Trafford], it's hard to play here but today we stayed calm and played with confidence."

On being in good form: "I'm very happy but it's about the team, they help me to score every week. It can be hard when a new player comes and you're expected to score straight away but they have been patient with me."

On targeting a return to Europe: "The season is long and we have to keep going like this, taking it game by game and we'll see at the end."

Former Premier League title winner with Blackburn

After a couple of encouraging games, Ipswich's home defeat by Brighton on Thursday was a disappointing result and performance.

Manchester City did not get the win they wanted either, slipping up late on at Brentford just when people were thinking they were back in a bit of form.

Still, Erling Haaland's new contract is great news for City and will give their fans a bit of a lift in what has been a difficult season. I would not be surprised if he celebrates it with a goal or two.

Ipswich can make it difficult for them, especially Liam Delap who is facing his old club. I think Delap will score, but City will win.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Two seasons ago, Liam Delap scored four goals across a whole Championship campaign.

Now, his Premier League form for Ipswich is leading to suggestions he could soon make his England breakthrough.

The 21-year-old has scored eight league goals this season since his £20m move from Manchester City - and faces his old team today.

"He has got a bit of everything in his game," said BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton.

"He can handle himself physically and he has got a brilliant touch too. The best thing about him, though, is that he is pretty fearless.

"If you play that role, you have got to have all the attributes as a number nine for whatever your team need. You have got to be able to run in behind as well as hold it up, and he has a really nice balance to his game."
