Lovely skill from Leandro Trossard on the left as a corner is headed back to him, a quick turn sees him away from a defender but then he puts his cross out for a throw.

    Newcastle 1-0 Brentford

Brentford's Keane Lewis-Potter with his three surnames just overruns the ball as he tries to beat Jacob Murphy and it's a goal-kick.

  3. Postpublished at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Arsenal 0-1 Crystal Palace

Some good defending by Raheem Sterling as he prevents Tyrick Mitchell from getting in behind and then holds his opponent off long enough to be fouled.

Sterling has had a pretty decent half so far, he's come the closest to equalising.

All these Gunners fans chatting about Isak like he’s already packing his bags let’s get a few things straight. First off, he’s with us. Second, it’s not looking great for you tonight in the cup, your league form’s wobbling, and let’s be honest, the last time you won anything was 2020. So, what makes you think he’s dying to join a club that’s still living off past glory? He’s Black-and-White through and through, so pipe down!

Former Newcastle & England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brentford have come into the game in the last five or six minutes and have slowed the game to their pace. They are doing what they want to do.

  8. 'Newcastle a little nervous'published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Newcastle 1-0 Brentford

    Chris Waddle

I was expecting a lot more from Newcastle. Quarter-final of the cup. They have been a little bit nervous. It is not normally what we see from them.

Joelinton almost nicks the ball off Nathan Collins just outside the Brentford box. He'd have enjoyed that - but it doesn't quite work.

It's a good opening few minutes from Southampton under interim boss Simon Rusk. It's kind of a similar set-up from how they lined up under Russell Martin. But it's a much better start than they had against Tottenham at the weekend.

    Arsenal 0-1 Crystal Palace

Some more good passing in the final third by Arsenal before Thomas Partey opts to hit a cross quickly from the right but it is a poor one and the ball goes out of play.

Joelinton is OK to continue after being patched up. Stapler gun or whatever to the face. I don't know, I'm not a doctor.

  13. 'Brentford need to play quicker'published at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Newcastle 1-0 Brentford

    Chris Waddle
Former Newcastle & England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brentford need to up the tempo. They play some good football but it is too slow for me, and that allows teams to get into a good shape. They need to play quicker.

Lyle Stevik: Wouldn't Gyokeres be the logical choice for Arsenal in January? A lethal striker who would be available for a lot less than Isak, and he'd also be hell bent on showing Brighton exactly what they missed out on

Testing conditions on the south coast as rain sweeps across St Mary's. Both sides have been guilty of giving the ball away in the opening exchanges.

A couple of early touches for youngster Trey Nyoni which will do him the world of good.

  16. Postpublished at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Newcastle 1-0 Brentford

Joelinton, with blood all over his face, is back on his feet shouting at Nathan Collins. A replay shows Collins stands on Joelinton's face while jumping for the ball. It's an accident though.

  17. Postpublished at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

Play stops so Newcastle midfielder Joelinton can get treatment for a head injury suffered while defending a Brentford corner.

  18. Postpublished at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Arsenal 0-1 Crystal Palace

We've just passed the half-hour mark and Arsenal are getting into their groove a bit now. The passes are more incisive and the movement better.

It was a really good effort from Raheem Sterling. Dean Henderson had to skip across his goal to get to that. That free-kick was dipping under the crossbar and it's a great save from the Crystal Palace goalkeeper.

    Alex Howell

Oliver Glasner said before the match that the game with Arsenal would be a 'set-play fight'. Palace have shown one way to battle Arsenal's dominance from corners, they are leaving three men in attack so the Gunners can't flood the box with players.
