  2. Scotland cap Hyam in late window shockpublished at 22:36 British Summer Time 1 September

Scotland centre-half Dom Hyam is at the centre of a late deadline day shock.

Reports from the Lancashire Telegraph suggest that Blackburn Rovers have accepted a bid from Wrexham for the defender, after two initial approaches were knocked back.

The 29-year-old played every minute of the Championship season last year but was out of contract next summer, with Rovers apparently willing to cash in now for the Scotland cap.

Hyam, capped once as a late substitute in June 2023 for Scotland, was recalled to Steven Clarke's most recent national squad

  3. Late surprise at Celtic?published at 22:30 British Summer Time 1 September

It's emerging that former Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is Celtic's latest transfer target in their bid to find a striker.

He's currently at Sevilla, knows Brendan Rodgers well from their time at the King Power, and was a reported target for the Hoops in January.

Is there time to get it over the line, though, even if the clubs come to a quick agreement? Tick, tock.

We're into the last half hour of the window, although there is an hour's grace after that if the deal sheet has been submitted.

One for the Celtic fans: if Tunisia winger Sebastian Tounekti is the only new arrival on deadline day, and time is running out to get that one over the line, how would you feel about the transfer window?

I think I know the answer, right enough, particularly as manager Brendan Rodgers was expecting a busy 24 hours, with multiple signings.

Tounekti would be the tenth new arrival, alongside: Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan, Benjamin Nygren, Shin Yamada, Hayato Inamura, Callum Osmand, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Marcelo Saracchi.

Among the outgoing players: Adam Idah, Nicolas Kuhn, Greg Taylor, Luis Palma and Gustav Lagerbielke.

When you take into account Kyogo Furuhashi's departure earlier this year, the short-term injury to right-back Alastair Johnston and the long-term one suffered by talismanic winger Jota, you can't help feeling the manager - and supporters - will come out of this window severely underwhelmed unless a late rabbit or two emerge from a hat somewhere.

I am always surprised why clubs leave till the last few minutes to sign players. They have had weeks to do there transfer business.

I appreciate that some players only become available after a replacement has been found, but really. On that not, come on Hibs get Dykes through the door.

    Mac

In fairness to clubs, particularly those without a lot of cash to splash, they're usually waiting for other deals to conclude so the dominoes can fall in their favour way down the line.

Sure, plenty could plan better, but they will know players they want most of the time and have to bide their time in order to actually make a move.

With the English window closing four hours before ours, many of those clubs will be waiting to see their final squads before sanctioning departures too.

    Plenty of time yet...

  7. Goodwin got his deadline day wish - a quiet onepublished at 22:16 British Summer Time 1 September

Jim Goodwin said Dundee United wouldn't be busy tonight, and he was right.

He said: “No, we will be done. I'm looking forward to the transfer window closing. I’m delighted with the business that we've done.

“14 new faces, I’m really pleased with how quickly the guys have all settled in.

“There might be a couple of young players out on loan, but in terms of incomings, the money’s gone!

On rumours linking Will Ferry with a late-window move away from Tannadice, Goodwin said it was unlikely.

“Will Ferry’s a Dundee United player, he's a really important player,” he said.

“He knows how important he is to us and he'll be here with us for the future.”

  8. 14 and counting for Rangers?published at 22:14 British Summer Time 1 September

Is that Rangers done for the night? If so, it would bring to an end one of their busiest ever transfer windows.

By my count, if you factor in the early summer deals for Oscar Cortes and Lyall Cameron, that's 14 new players in the door since the middle of June.

Cortes, Cameron, Antman, Aasgard, Miovski, Fernandez, Gassama, Rothwell, Moore, Djiga, Aarons, Meghoma, Cornelius, Chermiti.

It's a net spend but not a massive net spend, given the money brought in from the sales of Igamane, Jefte, Dessers, Yilmaz and Propper .

Among others also recently departed: Balogun, Cifuentes, Lawrence, Hagi, Cerny and Cortes (loan).

The new American regime promised investment and big changes, and they appear to have delivered.

From a shaky start, can Russell Martin steady the ship with the deadline day arrivals? He bought himself some time with the derby draw but he'll need results after the international break, and quickly.

Richard Odada has left Dundee United by mutual consent.

The Kenyan midfielder made only three league starts in his 13 appearances for Jim Goodwin's side.

Odada was on loan Serbian side OFK Beograd from February to the end of the 2024-25 season.

He joined United from MLS side Philadelphia Union last summer on a two-year deal with an option for a third, but now leaves to "pursue other opportunities", according to club media.

A potentially very decent signing for Motherwell; a season-long loan of Celtic centre-half Stephen Welsh.

12 new bodies in the door and 'Well are done.

Things are looking pretty promising under new Danish boss Jens Berthel Askou.

“I’m looking forward to this next chapter,” Welsh said.

“I have substantial experience in this division and feel I can really add to the project here. The squad have made a great start to the season, and the mood is positive.

“It’s good that I now have two weeks of training, where I can get familiar with how the team plays before the first game against Dundee.”

  12. Welsh joins Motherwell on loan from Celticpublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 1 September

Motherwell have announced the loan signing of Stephen Welsh from Celtic.

The 25-year-old has not featured this season for Brendan Rodgers' side and will now spend the season on loan at Fir Park.

Welsh spent the second half of last season on loan at Belgian side Mechelen, playing 17 times.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Stephen Welsh, our final addition of the summer transfer window,” Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou said.

“Stephen joins us following a successful loan spell with Belgian top-flight side KV Mechelen, where he gained valuable experience at a very competitive level.

“Being comfortable and composed in possession, while also confident and reliable when defending big areas, Stephen possesses the traits we are looking for in a modern centre-back.
