Falkirk have signed defender Filip Lissah from Swansea on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract at Swansea City in November 2022.

Falkirk boss John McGlynn said: We’re delighted to bring in Filip, he’s a versatile defender that can play at centre back and the full back areas.

"We’re short right now and are only one injury away from being at the bare bones at the back, so he gives us that cover we need in those positions.

"He’s a ball playing defender who has great energy and drive. He reads the game well, but also does well defending situations, which is equally important.

He joins on a season long loan with a view of developing as a player, and there’s no better place to do that than here at Falkirk Football Club."

The Dark Blues' hopes of signing former Aberdeen and Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack appear to be over, with the player set to stay with Turkish second-tier club Esenler Erokspor.

Dundee are looking at another midfield option, although they could be beaten by the clock in terms of getting a deal done ahead of tonight's deadline.

No more incomers at Hearts, but still the potential for at least one heading out the door.

Kenneth Vargas is wanted by a few clubs, but if he heads anywhere, it’s likely to Spain.

Brendan Rodgers said he'd only be at Celtic Park as long as the club was ambitious and wanted to improve. The club are neither of these things, so what now?

    Tony

Would not blame Rodgers if he walked out the club tomorrow after today's debacle and the ineptitude shown by the Celtic board and everyone involved in the recruitment process.

We're now stuck looking for bottom-of-the-barrel signings and are left with players like Yang, who wanted out of the club, but are now trapped for another six months. Absolute shambles.

Get Involved - will Celtic find a new striker?published at 21:09 British Summer Time 1 September

Presumably the delay in Celtic announcing a raft of new signings is down to the board trying to figure out how to send contracts to people who don’t own a fax machine.

    Jack

Seems like Celtic forgot they can buy as well as sell.

  8. Two hours to go, still no striker at Celticpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 1 September

    Kheredine Idessane

The longer the night goes on, the more curious it is that Celtic's search for a striker has yet to bear fruit.

Adam Idah has been sold to Swansea, leaving the club with Shin Yamada and Johnny Kenny as the club's only recognised first-team strikers. Although with 34 goals last season for club and country, clearly winger Daizen Maeda can play there no problem.

Given Kyogo Furuhashi was sold to Rennes in January, it's rather odd that the search for an adequate replacement is stretching into the wee small hours of the following transfer window.

A penny for manager Brendan Rodgers' thoughts right now.

Stan's spot on with his stat there.

Cyriel Dessers got 22 in his first season and 29 in his second campaign.

If any of Rangers' new forwards can match that, fair play.

I'm a Celtic man but I'm surprised Rangers let Dessers go. Miovski isn't any better than him, no way. Carter-Vickers pocketed him yesterday as well.

    Steven

I’m not a Rangers fan, but Dessers returned 20-plus goals every season in a team generally accepted as poor. What more did they want? Baffling.

For a guy who took *a lot* of stick, 52 goals and 17 assists in 116 games ain't too bad for Cyriel Dessers at Rangers.

Maybe fans will reflect on his time at the club more fondly in years to come.

He probably deserves that. In fact, he does deserve that.

Cyriel Dessers has left Rangers and signed for Panathinaikos for an undisclosed fee.

The Nigerian forward joined the Ibrox side in 2023 from US Cremonese on a four-year deal and leaves the club after scoring 52 goals.

"Everyone at the club thanks Cyriel for his contribution during his time in Glasgow, and we wish him well for the future," Rangers say in a statement.

  15. Rangers trust in Chermiti potential but does he need to hit the ground running?published at 20:38 British Summer Time 1 September

    Kheredine Idessane
    BBC Scotland

By signing young Portuguese forward Youssef Chermiti, Rangers are opting for potential over proven goalscoring.

The 21-year-old started his footballing life at Sporting Lisbon before a big-money move to Everton, for whom he played 24 times without finding the net. He did score for the Portugal under-21s against the Faroe Islands.

He hasn't come cheaply, either. He's well-known to sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who was formerly at Everton.

He has some pretty big shoes to fill. Cyriel Dessers wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but his numbers are impressive. 29 goals for Rangers last term and 22 the year before, which was his debut season.

Dessers' departure is likely to be announced soon, too. Marmite to some, the striker divided opinion and is being allowed to move to Greece, Panathinaikos most likely.

“We believe he can develop into a top striker here, and we’re confident that Rangers is the right place for him to take that next step," Ibrox sporting director Kevin Thelwell said.

"We’re all excited about what he can bring to the club over the coming years.”

Chermiti, then, has to hit the ground running, in a team struggling to find form, if he's to be viewed as a serious upgrade on the Nigerian international.

  16. 'Rangers shopping in over-inflated English market'published at 20:31 British Summer Time 1 September

As a Rangers fan, I'm not overly enamoured about the reported £8m fee for Youssef Chermiti, who hasn't scored a goal for two seasons, while letting Cyriel Dessers go for a reported £3.5m. Shopping in the over-inflated English market is a waste of money.

    Kevin

Apologies for the doom and gloom but the reported fee for Chermiti has me baulking. Absolutely nothing in his CV suggests he’s worth that amount of money. And to get rid of Dessers in the same stroke? Doesn’t make sense.

    Stuart

  17. Martin 'excited' by Chermiti's 'huge potential'published at 20:28 British Summer Time 1 September

Rangers head coach Russell Martin on new signing Youssef Chermiti: “We’re really pleased to bring Youssef to Rangers.

"He’s a young striker with huge potential and a lot of the qualities we were looking for in that position.

“At just 21, he already has valuable experience at a high level and we believe this is the right environment for him to continue his development.

"We’re excited to work with him over the coming years and help him fulfil that potential here at Rangers.”

  18. Chermiti 'can't wait' to experience Ibroxpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 1 September

New Rangers striker Youssef Chermiti: "I am really happy to be here, when I spoke with Kevin [Thelwell] and Russell [Martin], I knew straight away I wanted to join the club.

"I can’t wait to meet everyone, the coaches, my team-mates and all of the staff. I just want to meet everyone and get involved.

"I have heard about the atmosphere here and the stadium and I can’t wait to play."
