Summary

  1. Postpublished at 14:29 BST

    Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

David Brooks' free-kick is powered into the box and it smacks into Sandro Tonali, bouncing towards the Newcastle goal before Sven Botman clears.

There's a quick check by VAR for handball by Tonali, but nothing comes of it.

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

    John Murray
BBC football correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live at Stadium of Light

We can now call that 50 attempts on goal for Aston Villa since they last scored in the Premier League.

  3. 'Poor effort from Guessand'published at 14:28 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Stadium of Light

Sunderland didn't deal with the danger at all there and the ball falls to Guessand, middle of the six yard box, and he hits it straight at Roefs.

It was a decent save, a straightforward block and then it falls to Watkins, who in turn was offside.

It's a poor effort from Guessand, if that had gone in, it would have counted.

Why is Elliot not starting for Villa when they are struggling for goals? So daft. He creates and scores and was only not a starter at Liverpool because of Salah and the gang…Odd from Villa

  5. 'That's how you play against a high press'published at 14:27 BST

    Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

    Franny Benali
Former Premier League defender speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

That was better from Newcastle. But what I admire about this Bournemouth side is that whenever someone gets the ball, the nearest man goes and pressures them and they get backed up.

Newcastle got in behind from two one-touch lay-offs. That's how you play against a high press.

  6. CLOSE!published at 14:27 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

Suddenly Aston Villa's attack comes alive as the visitors have a free-kick.

The ball is played into the box and knocked down for Evann Guessand, whose shot from close range is denied by Robin Roefs, who then blocks Ollie Watkins' follow up.

The flag is up for offside anyway, but better from Villa.

  7. 'Rogers having very quiet game'published at 14:25 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Stadium of Light

The key for Aston Villa is to get Rogers engaged in the game. Buendia and Guessand are pushing on in the wide areas but they are not really involved in the game. They need to get Rogers linking it together, but at the moment he is having a very quiet game,

  8. 'Not a lot going on'published at 14:25 BST

There's not a lot going on in all honesty is there? No real chances. Neither keeper has been forced into any type of save and possession wise it is even. Both teams are just trying to feel each other out.

  9. Postpublished at 14:24 BST

    Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

Sandro Tonali has a pop from distance after good work down the left by Jacob Murphy, but the effort is always rising.

  10. Postpublished at 14:23 BST

    Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

Good run down the left by Joe Willock. He cuts into the box and tries to find a team-mate but his pass is a poor one and cleared.

  11. Postpublished at 14:21 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

Something for Robin Roefs to do as he waits to be tested for the first time in this game, but it is a simple catch from a high ball.

Roefs will have had a tougher workout in training than in this match so far.

I don't think I've seen Morgan Rogers touch the ball once. Surely you need to set up your team to get the most out of your best players. It's no surprise they sit so low in attacking stats this season.

  13. 'Konsa's positional awareness was excellent'published at 14:20 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Stadium of Light

That's another good piece of defending from Konsa. It's a well timed run from Isidor but once again Konsa's positional awareness was excellent and he got across to make the block.

Nice break from last season so far... Four really strong teams in contention (so far), a load of entertaining teams trying to break the mould (Bournemouth, Palace, etc.) and all three promoted sides making a jolly good go of it.

The hosts continue to look the most likely to score - which isn't a surprise given Aston Villa's final third struggles so far this season - but this time Wilson Isidor's shot is blocked by Ezri Konsa.

  16. 'Great play'published at 14:16 BST

    Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

    Franny Benali
Former Premier League defender speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It is pretty tight. It was great play from Bournemouth.

Evanlison's shot found Brooks but he's just in an offside position. It just shows how dangerous they are when they win the ball high up.

  17. 'Promising for Sunderland'published at 14:16 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Stadium of Light

Sunderland work the ball back to front in a few passes and then Rigg does well, he finds Talbi who then crosses in for Isidor who heads over the bar. Decent chance, promising for Sunderland.

  18. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 14:15 BST

    Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle

A loud cheer from the home fans is swiftly quietened as David Brooks fires home from close range, but the flag is up for offside.

VAR has a check but the decision stands, Brooks was definitely in an offside position from Evanilson's pass.

  19. 'Cash and Guessand have to build relationship'published at 14:14 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Stadium of Light

Cash and Guessand is a relationship they will have to build. Guessand has tracked back defensively but going forward there have been quite a few misplaced passes and balls put out of play needlessly.

  20. Postpublished at 14:13 BST

    Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa

First real chance of the game goes Sunderland's way as Wilson Isidor's header from a cross flies over the bar.
