Summary

  1. Bournemouth 'deserve' European footballpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former Aston Villa midfielder on Football Daily

Bournemouth have had an amazing season, but some people might question to say are they a club ready for European football yet and if they have the squad to go and play in Europe but they deserve it. Every game really matters now.

  2. Who has already qualified for Europe?published at 10:17 British Summer Time

Champions League: Liverpool and Arsenal, plus Manchester United or Tottenham as Europa League winners. Three more places to be decided via Premier League top five.

Europa League: Crystal Palace as FA Cup winners plus sixth place in Premier League.

Conference League: Newcastle as EFL Cup winners if they finish outside the top six. Their place will likely go to the club that finishes seventh in the Premier League, if Newcastle finish in the top six.

NB: There are many different scenarios that could play out that will affect the number of places available in each European competition and how they will be dished out. Click here to find out how eighth place could be enough to secure a Conference League spot.

  3. 'So many teams in that middle pack that are fighting'published at 10:10 British Summer Time

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former Aston Villa midfielder on Football Daily

It just shows how competitive this season’s Premier League has been, barring the title race, as some people might say, but there are so many teams in that middle pack that are fighting. Normally you look at seasons gone before where it is the usual subjects, middle pack are safe and there is nothing really to play for. Now, for these clubs who have had fantastic seasons, you can see they are motivated by the reward factor of if they can get these results, then they can go to Europe.

  4. 'A bit of jeopardy for the Champions League spots is super exciting'published at 10:04 British Summer Time

    Ellen White
Former England striker on Football Daily

I feel like we know who’s been relegated. We know who’s won. So to have a bit of jeopardy for the Champions League spots is super exciting.

It’s amazing for Crystal Palace to be in Europe as well.

I think it’s exciting for fans to be going to games thinking, will we, or will we not be getting a Champions League spot going into the final day of the Premier League.

Jay: I’m interested to see Manchester United fans respond to Nigel Reo-Coker’s idea that United won’t be motivated for the game v Aston Villa, regardless of the Europa League final result. So often yesterday on TV and today on various social media I’ve heard ex-players say how this or that team won’t be motivated on the last day of the season. Surely this can’t be right?

  6. 'Credit to Forest'published at 09:49 British Summer Time

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on Football Daily

Credit to Forest. I know that they will be disappointed if they miss out on the Champions League, but the season they have had has been fantastic.

They don’t have the [depth of] squad like the [other] teams that are trying to get into the Champions League.

Anything now is a positive for them.

As a neutral myself I would love to see Man City not win against Bournemouth on Tuesday. Would set up a lovely final day. I do think they will win both their last games though.

  8. 'The biggest fixture has to be Forest v Chelsea'published at 09:41 British Summer Time

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former Aston Villa midfielder on Football Daily

It’s great for us football fans. I am so excited and looking forward to it. The biggest fixture has to be Forest v Chelsea. I think that is going to be a firecracker, but I’m going to disagree with Clinton a little bit, I don’t think that Manchester City have two easy ties like people think.

Bournemouth is going to be tough, and Fulham is going to be tough too. That’s two potential banana skins. I still think Villa will take care of Manchester United, regardless of the latter’s final against Tottenham. I just don’t think Manchester United will be motivated.

It’s called breakfast because everyone is fasting to get into suits and dresses two sizes too small for the photos. Once that’s done and the bride and groom cheekily change into something less restrictive they all break their fast.

    Anon

It’s called a wedding breakfast as it’s the first meal the married couple share hence the breaking of fast, originally there would have also been fasting involved in the wedding preparations. Now it’s just called that through tradition, however on to much more fun things, who de we think will will between Spurs and Utd on Wednesday as neither could scrape together a performance at the weekend.

Thanks folks, I knew our readers would have the answer to this - our own personal search engine. And Mike, don't worry, we will have plenty on the Europa League final coming your way over the next few days.

  10. Who's getting Champions League football?published at 09:32 British Summer Time

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live at Wembley

I think Newcastle will have enough but they have to have [Alexander] Isak back. I think if they get Isak back, at home in St James' Park, I think the atmosphere will be fantastic and they will get into the Champions League.

I think Manchester City will take care of Bournemouth, but then they go to Fulham away, and Fulham had a good result against Brentford. You just never know do you?

Bournemouth have nothing to lose at the moment too, but if Manchester City don’t make the Champions League, then wow. I still think Manchester City have a chance.

I think Forest beat Chelsea but the problem is Aston Villa have Manchester United. So it depends on what Manchester United do.

How long does a wedding ceremony take these days? If the ceremony is at 2pm and Newcastle's match at home to Everton kicks off at 4pm on Sunday, this could all work out perfectly couldn't it Chris?

Watch the game then tuck into the wedding breakfast [no idea why it is called that] at 6pm.

My cousin is a season ticket holder at Newcastle and gets married at 2pm on Sunday. His dad and new father-in-law are also season ticket holders, as are half the congregation, so let's hope NUFC make it a proper party, in lieu of missing the match!

  13. What have the experts said on Champions League race?published at 09:21 British Summer Time

Former Newcastle striker Les Ferdinand, speaking on Sky Sports, said: "I think the last game of the season at home you'd expect Newcastle to beat Everton because Everton have nothing to play for.

"I think Manchester City will do it. We know they can produce when they want. I know things haven't been great for them this season but they can turn up when they need to."

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp added: "I still think City are going to do it but it's not going to be easy by any stretch. The team with the easiest fixture is Aston Villa because they have Manchester United away.

"These aren't teams that are in bang in form.

"It was a massive win for Nottingham Forest against West Ham because they've given themselves a real chance. Now Chelsea have to go there next week and play against a team that's got that confidence back."

Jason, we promise that we will get to the FA Cup final.

In fact, we will be devoting a big chunk of time to it after lunch, when we will be hearing from Crystal Palace's jubilant winning boss Oliver Glasner and Pep Guardiola, coach of FA Cup runners-up Manchester City.

Both managers have another Premier League game to prepare for on Tuesday...so won't have much time to bask in the glow of victory or make sense of the defeat.

Anon, we have checked out your assertion that FA Cup winners are allowed to use triangular corner flags - it looks to be a tradition, rather than a certified rule.

So any team can technically use triangle corner flags, but they'd only be cheating themselves.

I do feel that having Premier League games still to play after the FA Cup final has completely taken the glory away from what Crystal Palace have achieved. We have just won a major trophy for the first time ever, and yet somehow it's still all about Man City and the Premier League. Where is the respect and coverage that little old Palace deserve?

    Jason

A weird quirk/tradition of winning the FA Cup is that now we can (apparently) have triangular corner flags at Selhurst Park instead of boring old square ones. That was worth the 120-year wait... :)

Zac, jubilant Forest fan: In response to Chris - a relieved Gooner. Tears? Not a chance. Fought off relegation for the last two seasons, doubled points tally from last season and now guaranteed Europe. Any format will do for me.

I don't think there's a football fan in the world that would be upset if Nottingham Forest get a Champions League place. Here's to hoping they pull it out of the bag!

    Luke, Somerset (LFC fan)

The stars didn’t align for Forest completely this weekend but we still have an outside chance of Champions League. Bournemouth and Fulham are both capable of beating or holding City. Man U might turn up at home to hold Villa, especially if they win the Europa final. Forest have already beaten Chelsea at the Bridge, do we have enough in the tank…? A resurgent Everton could get something at St James’s. It’s wide open… but as a famous manager once said, “I hope you’re not stupid enough to write us off?”

What Nuno Espirito Santo has said: "It's a good boost of confidence, [being at] the City Ground [against Chelsea on the final day] is another big boost for us, it's going to be bouncing.

"We will fight, it's the final game so we're going to fight for something huge for us - something magical.

"It's great. Let's enjoy it, it's going to be a good week for us. If we'd thought in the beginning of the season that we'd be playing to play in the Champions League we'd sign it."
