  2. Recap: What has been said in Monday's news conferences?published at 15:29 British Summer Time 19 May

If you're just joining, we've had a number of Premier League news conferences with two matches taking place on Tuesday - Crystal Palace v Wolves and Manchester City v Bournemouth.

Pep Guardiola, Oliver Glasner, Vitor Pereira and Andoni Iraola have all spoken in the past few hours.

    • In their hunt for a Champions League place, Man City boss Guardiola pointed to winning this season's Community Shield as a trophy they can claim - saying, apart from Newcastle and Arsenal, 'the other teams didn't win anything'
    • It's been a weekend of celebration for Crystal Palace and their manager Glasner revealed in his team news update that Adam Wharton will miss final two games and Marc Guehi is out of Tuesday's match at home to Wolves.
    • Bournemouth boss Iraola believes the 'the chances of getting into Europe are very limited' for his side

So, a season that ends with Newcastle ending a 50-odd year wait for a trophy, Liverpool winning the league at home in front of fans for the first time in 35 years, and Crystal Palace winning their first major trophy ever. Not as dull a season as people have been making out, really?

  4. Will we see Alexander-Arnold?published at 15:25 British Summer Time 19 May

    Brighton v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

The only real question that needs answering from a Liverpool perspective this evening surrounds Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back, who confirmed two weeks ago that he would leave the Reds upon the expiry of his contract, was booed during his penultimate game at Anfield in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Liverpool haven't been in action since so many will be closely monitoring the situation on the south coast this evening.

There are reports are that the 26-year-old is part of Arne Slot's squad tonight, but whether he plays any minutes is yet to be seen.

  5. What has Hurzeler said about Europe?published at 15:23 British Summer Time 19 May

    Brighton v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has remained relatively hush in the last few weeks with regard to the club's European ambitions.

Following last week's 2-0 victory against Wolves, which kept them in the race for a European spot, he said: "I'm not thinking about Europe. I'm thinking about how we can win the next game."

However, when asked in his pre-Liverpool news conference about potentially qualifying for the Conference League, he admitted: "We really want to compete with the best and chase them."

    Blimey, Fred.

Yorkshire and Derbyshire may not agree with everything but I reckon we can categorically come together and say that is dead wrong.

Anyway, time to wrap this up.

Fred, Suffolk: I thought it was "eh up" actually. Perhaps we will never know the truth.

  8. When were Brighton last in Europe?published at 15:18 British Summer Time 19 May

    Brighton v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton qualified for Europe for the first time in their history in 2023 after finishing sixth in the 2022-23 Premier League, earning them a spot in the 2023-24 Europa League.

The Seagulls topped their group and advanced to the knockout stage but were eliminated by Serie A side Roma in the last 16.

Should Brighton finish eighth, Chelsea win the Conference League and finish seventh, Brighton could take part in the Conference League for the first time.

  9. Big night for Brighton?published at 15:15 British Summer Time 19 May

The Premier League title is won and with nothing else to achieve but to add to the points total, tonight is simply about pride for Liverpool.

For Brighton, on the other hand, a positive result this evening could be huge.

The Seagulls currently sit ninth, level on points with Brentford in eighth - though the latter's goal difference is significantly better.

A point or more for Fabian Hurzeler's side this evening will put them in the driving seat for a potential spot in Europe next season.

Should Chelsea win the Conference League, eighth spot in the Premier League will qualify for that competition in 2025-26.

With two games left to play - four points will be enough to secure an eighth place finish for Brighton but to ensure it remains in their hands - they must get something this evening against the champions.

  11. 'The chances to get into Europe are very limited'published at 15:10 British Summer Time 19 May

Man City v Bournemouth (Tues, 20:00 BST)

    Bournemouth

Andoni Iraola says, "It's not the scenario" that Bournemouth want as they prepare to travel away to Man City in their second last game of the season in hopes of securing a European spot:

"We are playing away against City in a game where they are in need to play for Champions League [qualification]", he said.

"It is not the scenario you want, but it's the one we have right now and we have to try to go there and play our game. It's true that after the FA Cup final, the chances of getting into Europe are very limited."

  12. Palace FA Cup win 'good overall for the league and for football' - Iraolapublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 19 May

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola was watching Man City's FA Cup final defeat by Crystal Palace and thinks their approach against his side will be different.

On the result's significance, he said: "Even if it means we have less chances now to qualify for Europe I think we have to congratulate Palace because a team that is not the six/eight teams that are fighting for titles winning a title like the FA Cup is good overall for the league and for football."

We have covered so much ground, from the race for European qualification to the FA Cup and back again.

Coming up we will continue that theme with the best lines from Andoni Iraola's news conference before Bournemouth's trip to Manchester City on Tuesday in a match that could have big implications for the Champions League and Conference League places.

After that, we will be building up to tonight's game between Brighton and Liverpool at the Amex Stadium.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira admits he is ready for a rest - but he can only relax once he has finalised the club's transfer plans.

The head coach, who has been nominated for Premier League Manager of the Season despite only arriving from Al Shabab in December, has lifted Wolves from the relegation zone to 14th.

They go to Crystal Palace on Tuesday having sealed survival last month with Pereira starting to eye a holiday.

"Sorry, but I need a break! I started in Saudi, it’s not easy, it was tough work. Here it’s tough work," he said.

"But it’s not time to rest because we need to do a lot in the holidays, I need to be on form, I need to have meetings, to help the club, to do the best market we can and to create expectations.

"We can create expectations when we have the tools. We need these tools to increase these levels."

For people wondering why all the fuss around Spurs or Manchester United qualifying to the Champions League next year, it is a combination of the fact that first both teams are right up there in terms of riches/revenue, they are both having their worst season in living memory and finally, they are playing each other. Nothing more, nothing less.

Crystal Palace v Wolves (Tue, 20:00 BST)

Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira wants to emulate Crystal Palace's consistency - before having dreams of reproducing their FA Cup triumph.

Palace's 1-0 win over Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday saw them lift the FA Cup for the first time.

Wolves have survived after Pereira took over in December with the side in the Premier League relegation zone but the Portuguese refused to get caught up in copying Palace's Cup success.

He said: "I’m not a dreamer. They were there because they deserved it, they are consistent and they play the league in a consistent way.

"This is the kind of team we need to be next season. I want to win titles but our title this season was to transform our situation into a better situation.

"We've stayed in the Premier League but it can’t be the same, next season must be consistent from the beginning.

"We must work harder now, in the next month, to get good players and to stay with our players, to have a base and create a strong team."
