Summary

  1. 'So we have won three trophies...'published at 13:25 British Summer Time

The response from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola with regard to the Community Shield was very similar to that his former assistant coach gave earlier this season.

In December, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was asked a question in his pre-match news conference by a reporter who stated that he had "won one trophy in five years" with the club.

Arteta's response to said question was: “We won the Charity Shield twice, no? So we’ve won three trophies.”

    Manchester City

If you're just tuning in, you will have just missed Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola facing the media in his pre-Bournemouth news conference.

Fear not though, because here's a recap of his best bits:

Pep Guardiola has spent so much of his illustrious career on the winning side, he clearly struggles to process defeat and can appear rather prickly when challenged. He knows this season has been poor, but he can only frame that by referring to what other teams have failed at, rather than admitting City's own shortcomings. Having a squad worth (possibly) more than a billion pounds means that you've very few excuses to explain a trophy-less season, with or without injuries.

  4. De Bruyne will get 'best moment and the best compliment'published at 13:15 British Summer Time

Man City v Bournemouth (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on whether he will start with Kevin de Bruyne on Tuesday, after the 33-year-old Belgium midfielder stayed on for the full game in the FA Cup final on Saturday: "We want to win the game so we can qualify for the Champions League next season - this is what Kevin wants, it couldn't be otherwise.

"I am going to decide what is the best for us to win the game against Bournemouth, that is for sure.

"Kevin will get what he deserves, and what he deserves is the best moment and the best compliment for his incredible trajectory.

"What he has done along with some incredible other legends in this club will not be possible in the 10 to 15 years since Sheik Mansour took over the club and run this club to reach another level."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on his review of the FA Cup final: "I haven't watched that game. I am focusing on Bournemouth. Man City v Bournemouth (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on how important tomorrow's fixture is: "It is important. For the last 13 or 14 or 15 years we want to be in the Champions League but if we are not there then we don't deserve it and will be in the Europa League. It is what it is."

On whether he has thought about not qualifying: "I am thinking we are going to qualify. My thoughts and the way I think - I think that. We need four points. That is the main target. I am absolutely [confident of qualifying]."

  11. Could Man City's season get any worse?published at 12:57 British Summer Time

Man City v Bournemouth (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final ensured Manchester City would fail to win a trophy in a season for the first time since manager Pep Guardiola's first campaign in charge in 2016-17.

City's challenge now is to make sure they do not miss out on Champions League football next season for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign.

Guardiola's side need four points from their final two Premier League games - at home to Bournemouth on Tuesday and at Fulham on Sunday - to clinch a place in Europe's elite cup competition next season.

He did, however, say that the playmaker would get the send-off he "deserves".

Guardiola also added that he had not talked to the Belgian midfielder about whether he would be staying on to play in the Club World Cup.

Arsenal have had Benjamin Sesko on their radar for a while now and the forward was close to joining the club last summer.

Arsenal enquired again in January, but the German club were adamant they had no intention of selling and the Gunners did not want to antagonise them before a potential negotiation this summer.

Slovenia international Sesko has scored 26 goals this season - already an improvement on the 23 he hit last year. At 21, he fits the ideal age profile for Arsenal in terms of financial and technical growth.
