Can't believe we're sticking with ETH just because there's nobody better out there. True, Potter or Frank will be an even bigger downgrade than Tuchel or Southgate; but what's the worst that could happen? Give them a few windows to clear out the deadwood and build their own team - then if we're not champions in 18 months, sack them too and start over with someone else. We did this with the last 5 managers, why change a winning formula?

"[John] McGinn is training this week normally with us and feeling good. [Ezri] Konsa and Jadon [Philogene] as well are feeling good. It is the first time this year where more or less we have everyone available.

"[Amadou] Onana is okay as well. It's good news."

  3. 'Ten Hag came out damning the media'published at 14:37 British Summer Time 18 October

Manchester United v Fulham (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Erik ten Hag could never be accused of sidestepping a main issue.

Quizzed again about his future as Manchester United boss, the Dutchman came out swinging, damning the media for their reporting of his current plight, or at least for those stories that claimed he was on the brink of dismissal.

While he is still in a job, he can still save it.

However, United are 14th. Even Ten Hag accepted that is not good enough.

The Dutchman says United's hierarchy are "on the same page". He insisted that was the case after the draw with Aston Villa immediately before the international break.

But trust and patience only last so long. He urgently needs results.

A victory over Brentford would be the ideal place to start.

"I am thinking in him how with his process here and how he is progressing how important it is for him to start in these matches. Maybe tomorrow or maybe in the next games we play.

"He's ready and his next challenge is coming.

"Jhon Duran's performances have been very good for us, playing minutes and getting more minutes for him. I think this month is the same."

"It's always a day-by-day assessment with the medical department and the player. For now, he's not available against Crystal Palace."

Would he be interested in international management?: "I am happy with my role as a coach in the clubs. I don't know if in the future I can think in case some national team is calling me. I don't know now."

  7. Postecoglou looks recharged after international breakpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 18 October

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was sharp, funny and positive in his first press conference since what he described as his "worst defeat" in a 3-2 loss away at Brighton before the international break.

The Australian admitted the emotions of throwing away a two goal lead were part of his frustrated post-match press conference a fortnight ago but once the emotion subsided - he felt he could tell his players where they went wrong in that dismal second half.

He is also buoyed by having almost his full squad available as Wilson Odobert remains a doubt for Saturday's match at home to West Ham but Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Lucas Bergvall all return.

    Chelsea

Chelsea Enzo Maresca on whether Reece James will be able to play the role he asks of Malo Gusto:

"First of all he has to be fit and then slowly we will see. The most important thing for Reece is that finally he is fit. We have many players that are versatile and can play in different positions."

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola on squad availability ahead of Saturday's match against Arsenal: "Availability wise, everyone has come back well. No injuries from the national team games.

"I think everyone is going to be available. Tyler [Adams] probably lacks game time, but he's doing very well. He's trained very well and he's ready. Milos [Kerkez] is feeling better and I hope they can both be available."

Nottingham Forest v Crystal Palace (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo reacted to receiving a three-match touchline ban: "I'm surprised it's a big sanction but there's nothing we can do. It's not for me to judge, my job is to move forward and make sure the coaching staff are ready to help the team.

"We had a hearing, everything was normal. The sanction has been decided. Let's go.

On Morgan Gibbs-White also receiving a one-match ban: "It's not nice when you don't have a player available. It's not in the right moment, he's still injured. Hopefully for the next game he's going to be available."

  11. 'Tuchel has a fantastic record in knockout football'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 18 October

Tottenham v West Ham (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was also asked about Thomas Tuchel's appointment as England manager: "Fantastic manager in Thomas. Got a fantastic record in knockout football. Great players and an exciting appointment."

And finally he said on if he would want to manager England: "I enjoyed international football but at the end of it I wanted to get back into the day-in, day-out… I wouldn’t coach the Australian national team again because I have done that. There is a lot of responsibility as you have a whole nation expecting in that position."

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou also spoke about reports that have emerged about Ryan Mason potentially joining Anderlecht: "There wasn’t too much on it and part of my role is developing coaches. Ryan is someone who sees himself as one day taking that opportunity. Ryan is doing a great job for us here but if that’s something they want to explore then I think that’s the right thing. I am happy with Ryan, he is happy and committed to us."

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has faced the press before his team take on West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.

He was first asked about Son: "Son is good, worked hard this week. He is good to go."

Postecoglou added on Richarlison: "We’ve taken our time with him and we have taken time to build his fitness base up. He has worked hard, trimmed down and looks lean now.

"We’ve tried to use it like a pre-season for him on an individual basis to not only recover from his injury and get his fitness base up, so we don’t keep going through this cycle of him coming back and breaking down. He is looking good, working hard and has missed playing. He’s an infectious guy and good to have him back in this group."

  14. 'We should probably have more points'published at 13:57 British Summer Time 18 October

Bournemouth v Arsenal (Sat 17:30 BST)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola reflected on the Cherries' start to the Premier League season: "If you look at the stats, we should probably have more points. The big mistake we've made is the game we lost against Leicester. The other results are more or less logical, but we have to recover the three points we lost there.

"We have three games in a row against Champions League teams so we have to recover those points in a difficult way."

"The key that day was unbelievable discipline, a counter-attacking threat and real togetherness and fight. We will need that again.

"We miss Pedro Neto's counter-attacking threat of course.

"It's although game of course but I'm looking forward to it. You can never control the result but we need to control our performance. We need to give the fans something to get on board with.

"That's what we aim to do against the best team in world football."

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola on having the third most shots in the Premier League this season: "We are arriving with numbers inside the box and we feel like we can score. The truth is we aren't scoring enough for the amount of time we are spending close to the opposition box.

"This is the part that can make us more efficient and win more points. We trust the players we have in the offensive areas and they have to continue doing the things that make us play well."

Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire are "out for a couple of weeks" but Mazraoui is available for selection.

On the progress of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia: "We can’t force their return. We have to do it very carefully. We want them as soon as possible and we need a left back that’s for sure. But we don’t want to bring them back and lose them."

"Journalists didn’t believe me. I saw the reports. Of course, we are unhappy with the position where we are.

"Ultimately, internally it is quiet and composed. We stick to the plan and are very convinced it will be a success."

"We have to climb a mountain. Sometimes you have to face challenges. I am sure we will make a success.

"We are in a direction, underneath I see good things and good stats that confirms we are in a good direction. But we see ranking that is not good enough."
