If England got Pep everyone would be celebrating. But Tuchel is a problem because he's not English? Ridiculous. Tuchel is a great appointment.

  2. 'This is all up to Guardiola because he can stay at City for as long as he likes'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 18 October

Wolves v Man City (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Rory Smith
Chief Soccer Correspondent for The New York Times, on Monday Night Club

There is a suggestion that Pep Guardiola will sign a one or two year extension and that would make sense to me.

This is all up to Guardiola because he can stay at City for as long as he likes. Whether he wants to do that by just signing continual rolling extensions is up to him but it strikes me as being less from ideal. Otherwise you have this thing at the start of every season wondering if it is his last season.

I suspect he will want to go out on a high with maybe with another Champions League. But he also knows there is no other club in the world that can provide him with the same working environment as what he has at City.

If he goes, then it will either be because he doesn't want to work for a bit, or it will be for a very different type of job.

  3. What is the latest on Pep's contract?published at 12:18 British Summer Time 18 October

Wolves v Man City (Sun, 14:00 BST)

There has been nothing official from Pep Guardiola himself, though there's no doubt he will be asked about it later today, or Manchester City.

There has been an update from a report in The Athletic. The publication say Guardiola could sign an extension even if the club loses its legal battle against 115 alleged breaches of financial rules.

  4. Will Pep stay or go?published at 12:15 British Summer Time 18 October

    Manchester City

Questions still remain around Pep Guardiola's future at Manchester City.

Guardiola's contract runs out in the summer but no announcement has yet been made around whether he will stay or go.

He had been linked with the England job before Thomas Tuchel was announced earlier this week.

Hmmm I'm not sure the FA will be wanting Thomas Tuchel to be just a stop-gap, Tom.

Anyway, let's park the England chat for just a bit because we've got our latest batch of Premier League news conferences about to be served up.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will be on from 12:30 BST.

We have to remember Tuchel has an 18 month contract. It’s likely unless we win the 2026 WC he will leave and it opens the door for a long-term English manager. I think this is a stop-gap until then. If we win the WC however….he may stay and everyone would be happy regardless….

In his two seasons with Burnley, Eddie Howe led the Clarets to a eighth-placed and a 13th-placed finish in the Championship. He left the club in 2012 due to "personal reasons".

All of the talk about Howe for England conveniently ignores his disastrous tenure at Burnley and his failure to actually win anything

  9. 'I want to go and be a number one'published at 11:57 British Summer Time 18 October

    Liverpool

In September Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher said he wanted to leave the club to prove himself.

"I've made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a number one and play week in, week out," he said.

"The club's made that decision to get another goalkeeper and from the outside looking in, it looks like they've made a decision to go in a different direction."

Worried about Alisson Becker's absence Liverpool fans? Well maybe you shouldn't be.

Back-up Caoimhin Kelleher has made 49 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, and from those matches he's managed 16 clean sheets.

This season, Kelleher played in a 3-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League and in a 5-1 win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

England and Manchester City defender Kyle Walker speaking about the appointment of Thomas Tuchel on the You'll Never Beat Kyle Walker podcast:

"I can understand the English public thinking that it should be an English manager taking control of the national team but for me it's about who is going to get the results.

"He has proven at big clubs that he can manage big players with big personalities - you look at the likes of PSG - went to Chelsea and won the Champions League.

"I think it's a great appointment and I think it's an even better appointment if he puts me in the team again."

Nikita Parris celebrates her goal with Brighton teammatesImage source, Getty Images

Plenty more England manager chat on the horizon, keep it coming all.

Meanwhile, there are some tasty matches in the Women's Super League this weekend with arguably the biggest coming in the only Saturday game: Brighton v Manchester United.

There is a huge storyline with Nikita Parris facing her old team in United. Parris left Marc Skinner's side this past summer to join Brighton.

Brighton had a great transfer window, also signing the likes of Fran Kirby, and their start to the season has been good. They currently sit fourth after three wins and a loss.

United are in third with three wins and a game in hand after their game against Chelsea was postponed. If Brighton do get the better of United they could move into the top three.

Elsewhere, defending champions Chelsea host Tottenham and Manchester City welcome Aston Villa.

    Full schedule:

    Saturday

Brighton v Man Utd, 12:30 BST

    Sunday

Man City v Aston Villa, 12:15 BST

Liverpool v Crystal Palace, 14:00 BST

Leicester City v Everton, 15:00 BST

West Ham v Arsenal, 15:00 BST

    Chelsea v Tottenham, 18:45 BST

Shaun, Cambridge: Re: Adrian in Birmingham. Do you really think Pep Guardiola (who the FA did reach out to) sat at his desk and filled in an application form on the FA website?

Eddie said that he was focussed on his project at Newcastle, while Newcastle were keen on keeping him. Maybe the FA didn’t want all the hassle to be rejected or stump up the cost to buy his contract out.

  18. Howe was not among 10 England manager candidatespublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 18 October

    England

    We may never know Adrian.

But I can tell you that the FA's Chief Executive Officer Mark Bullingham said "approximately 10" candidates were spoken to for the England job, including English coaches, before Thomas Tuchel's appointment.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe confirmed today that he was not one of them and was never approached by the FA.

Howe is just one of three English managers currently in the Premier League with Gary O'Neil of Wolves and Everton's Sean Dyche making up the trio.

Dyche stated in his Thursday media conference before Everton's match against Ipswich Town that he "certainly wasn't" one of the coaches interviewed.

Wasn't the England job via application? If Eddie Howe wasn't interviewed, did he even apply? If he didn't apply, that's on him, not the FA.
