What is going through Matteo Darmian's head?

    Shoot, shoot, shoot!

A lovely pass slices the Manchester City defence wide open and the former Manchester United man is in a great position to score but he decides against it and a huge chance is gone.

Ruben Dias has been given the captain's armband after Kevin de Bruyne withdrawal. Will he inspire his team-mates? This is so cagey.

What a start to the second half that almost was for City! Phil Foden let the ball run across his body and let fly, trying to find that far top corner but his shot flying around a yard away from it.

  5. Pep's applausepublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 18 September

    Man City 0-0 Inter Milan

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at the Etihad Stadium

Pep Guardiola liked the move that ended with Phil Foden curling a shot over.

He put his hands above his head and did that exaggerated applause thing he does.

The Manchester City manager wants more from his team than they showed in the first half.

Kevin de Bruyne's absence at the start of the second half will be a concern. Manchester City will hope it is nothing too serious.

They've got Arsenal coming up on Sunday. Are they protecting him for that?

Phil Foden isn't messing around. Only one thought on his mind with his first touch, a shot which flies wide. Pep Guardiola reacts by clapping his hands above his head.

Great play by Nicolas Kuhn on the right side and he plays the ball across the six-yard box for Kyogo Furuhashi, who can't miss.

Former England & Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a 90-95 minute game, so I think everyone just needs to chill out a little bit. Manchester City aren't perfect, they don't just roll out and batter everyone. Pep Guardiola won't be happy with how his team has played but he will take some credit for that. But this team know what they are doing, chances will come and I expect them to win.

  10. 'I don't know if Inter can keep it up'published at 21:03 British Summer Time 18 September

    Man City 0-0 Inter Milan

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Inter were very well organised and hit well on the counter, I just don't know if they can keep this up for another 45 minutes plus. Running and allowing City to have the ball for 90 minutes is tiring so let's see. So far though they have done really, really well.

It feels like Pep Guardiola has to change something here. City are finding it very difficult to create chances because of Inter’s organisation and the way they are set up.

Because they have done so well at stopping City, you might think Inter have come to the Etihad and just sat back, but they have had 10 shots on goal so far - how often do you see that from an away team at the Etihad by half-time?

They are countering very well, and getting shots away. I actually think they believe they can hurt City on the break.

Remember all those goals last night? We've had four so far today. And three of those came from Sparta Prague in the early kick-off.

Credit should go to Inter if anything, they have almost been wasteful with their finishing at times. They have been very hard to break down and they have broken out at pace and looked dangerous.

Manchester City have not found their rhythm yet and have struggled. Pep Guardiola will be demanding far more from his team in this second half. I felt the longer the half went on they were wearing Inter down, and they will carry on doing what they do and wait for their moment.

  17. Postpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 18 September

Manchester City have faced more shots (10) than they recorded themselves (9). That's the first time that has happened in any of their past 18 home Champions League matches since facing Paris St-Germain in November 2021.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi took a large drink of water before heading down the tunnel.

He probably deserves it for all the screaming he does, either to his players or his bench.

Inzaghi will be well pleased with his side's efforts so far.

Inter look dangerous on the break and have handled City's attack as well as any side can do given the talent at Pep Guardiola's disposal.

They will fancy their chances of a shock victory.

The Man City kit is probably up there as one of the worst ever. The lettering and numbers are quite awful. They say one person is never bigger than a club, but Noel Gallagher seems to be putting that saying at risk.
