  1. 'We take the point'published at 14:56 British Summer Time

    FT: Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola to TNT Sports: "They had moments in first ten minutes and after their goal, but in general we played really good.

"We made bad decisions at the last minute to make it 2-0. It is always difficult here with their physicality and they defend so deep. We had chances but [Nick] Pope was brilliant so we take the point.

"When we scored we played better. We make a mistake and after they play better. But then we take the game again and had chances to win it.

On Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis: "Mateo was brilliant, Rico too. Bernardo played there. Really good."

  2. 'Really pleased with how we attacked the game'published at 14:55 British Summer Time

    FT: Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We are happy, especially after last week. That was a good display, that was us playing our way, brave. It was two teams going right at each other for probably 70 minutes. Last 20 minutes they were stronger than us and we had to defend really well to maintain the point.

"We got into really good crossing areas and I was really pleased with how we were off the ball and how we attacked the game. I can't ask for much more than that, the lads gave everything."

On Anthony Gordon playing up front: "I've said he is capable of doing the role. The highlight for me today was his energy and his running. He led the line really well and really pleased that he got his goal. Well deserved."

On Sandro Tonali: "It's probably our strongest position in terms of choice. Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff we rate really highly. Tonali would be right up there with one of our best performers today. He suffered a bit of cramp today but that is natural with the amount of time out that he has had.

On the improved performance from last week: "It's difficult to define how people react in certain situations. There is always going to be a lift here, especially against the opponent. There's a fear factor, you know you have to perform well or it could be very difficult. The challenge for us is to find that consistency and that's what we are working towards."

  3. 'Leicester's results are different to their level of performance'published at 14:51 British Summer Time

    Arsenal v Leicester (15:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking ahead of the game against Leicester: "We had some issues during the week that we have to resolve. We lost Ben [White] again which is not great and we are without Martin [Odegaard] again.

"Results have been different to the level of performance Leicester have had. They have a lot of threats and Steve Cooper is very good how he organises his team so it will be a tough match."

  4. 'Everton fans might be getting a nice Christmas present'published at 14:50 British Summer Time

Everton v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Shamoon Hafez
BBC Sport football news reporter on Football Focus

Shamoon was asked for more details about the Friekin Groups potential take over of Everton. It was announced today that the Group has reached an agreement to buy Farhad Moshiri's majority 94% stake of the club:

This deal looked dead in the water just a couple of months back. 777 Partners couldn’t get the deal over the line. Talks between [Farhad] Moshiri and the Friedkin Group broke down themselves.

On Monday it was announced that a deal had been done between the Friedkin Group and Farhad Moshiri. Sources that I have spoken to who are close to the deal, say they have full confidence of getting it done in the next eight to twelve weeks.

So Everton fans might be getting a nice Christmas present at the start of December.

  5. 'He is the best option, there’s no doubt about that'published at 14:49 British Summer Time

Everton v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

Alan Stubbs was asked how important it is that Everton get a deal with the Friedkin Group over the line:

I think this has been hugely important for Everton, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. The one thing that you couldn’t relay with Everton was stability.

I think what this will do is, it will bring stability. I think Daniel Friedkin’s played it unbelievably well. I think he’s been very clever because he walked away from it initially, waited to see if there was any interest there and then he’s come in at the very end.

He already knew exactly what was going on. To be honest, he is the best option, there’s no doubt about that.

  6. Chelsea's squad size still leads to difficult decisionspublished at 14:48 British Summer Time

    Chelsea v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    BBC Sport football news reporter

Enzo Maresca has left out a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Benoit Badiashile Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marc Guiu and Cesare Casadei.

It is a sign that for all the excitement around how Chelsea are playing under Enzo Maresca that there are still winners and losers during each matchday.

They took their team photo last week and it featured 29 senior players but only 20 can make the squad.

For better, and maybe worse when it comes to picking the squad, Reece James is the only Chelsea player currently out injured.

  7. 'Palace haven't kicked into gear'published at 14:46 British Summer Time

Everton v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Marc Albrighton
Former Leicester midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Palace is a strange one. They have not really kicked into gear this season after having such a great end last season.

They are struggling to create chances. They are OK defensively but it's just going forward.

We tend to only talk about referees when they’ve done something wrong, but credit to Jarred Gillett today, I thought he officiated that game superbly.

  9. 'Lopetegui needs a result'published at 14:45 British Summer Time

Brentford v West Ham (15:00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
    BBC Sport predictions expert

    Julen LopeteguiImage source, Getty Images

Julen Lopetegui needs a result and he needs a performance, the West Ham way... whatever that is under him.

Their fans wanted a change, and they got the change... and I think they have expected a much better start than the one they have got.

On top of the result, what was worrying about last week's home defeat by Chelsea was how vulnerable the Hammers looked defensively. If they were solid at the back it would give them something to build on until they click up front, but there was not much to build on there.

Brentford are always superbly organised and carry a goal threat. They went ahead against Manchester City and Tottenham in their past two league games and although they ended up losing both, they ran Spurs very close and gave City plenty to think about too.

Even without the injured Yoane Wissa, the Bees are a well-balanced team - and probably not the kind of opposition that West Ham need or want right now.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

  10. 'Raya has been sensational'published at 14:44 British Summer Time

    Arsenal v Leicester (15:00 BST)

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on the Football Daily podcast

David Raya has been absolutely sensational and it's hard to say that is a better goalkeeper than him in the Premier League, so I think he will be a big miss.

It used to be having a striker who can get you 15-20 goals a season, but goalkeepers have become as valuable as having that striker now.

  11. 'Draw written all over it'published at 14:43 British Summer Time

Nottingham Forest v Fulham (15:00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
    BBC Sport predictions expert

I like Fulham at home, but I am not so sure I like them as much away.

Nottingham Forest will miss the suspended Morgan Gibbs-White, which is a bit of a blow for them.

This is going to be a good game, but it has draw written all over it.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

  12. West Ham were 'all over the place' against Chelseapublished at 14:43 British Summer Time

Brentford v West Ham (15:00 BST)

    Don Hutchison
Ex-Scotland midfielder on BBC's Football Daily podcast

David Moyes did a fantastic job and now they have to move on.

But they have tried that before with Pellegrini. That didn't work and it just goes to show how good of a manager David Moyes is.

Going back to Lopetegui, I watched the game against Fulham when they drew 1-1 and it was quite solid and workmen-like. Then I was watching the Chelsea game and it looked like he'd gone to a three.

They were all over the place.

  13. 'I don't see West Ham's identity'published at 14:42 British Summer Time

Brentford v West Ham (15:00 BST)

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on the Football Daily podcast

For me, it's Lopetegui's tinkering that I don't get. They looked solid in a back four against Fulham and then he tried to be too clever against Chelsea and the players looked like they didn't have a clue.

Alvarez got left for dead by Jackson and they looked really unathletic and they didn't look solid. Chelsea went straight down the middle of them.

It shows to me that he as a manager doesn't know his strongest side yet and I am struggling to see the identity of what he is trying to establish with this West Ham squad. He is under pressure because of the signings that they have made.

  14. 'It was always going to be hard for Cooper at Leicester'published at 14:41 British Summer Time

    Arsenal v Leicester (15:00 BST)

    Marc Albrighton
Former Leicester midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was going to be hard for Cooper, with his connection to Forest.

I still think he will keep them in the league. It may be worth today adding an extra defender and try and hope gaps appear and they can hit Arsenal on the break.

  15. 'Leicester have been competitive'published at 14:40 British Summer Time

    Arsenal v Leicester (15:00 BST)

    Pat Nevin
Former Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

There are a few moans coming out. We all knew it was going to be tough for the promoted teams and I think Leicester have been competitive in the games they have been in.

  16. 'Newcastle's best performance of the season'published at 14:40 British Summer Time

    FT: Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Final Score Red Button

With Newcastle it is hard to know what to make of them. This is probably their best performance of the season - they look like they are back at it.

To get anything against Man City is a good result - it opens it up a bit at the top of the table.

  17. 'It wasn't vintage City today'published at 14:39 British Summer Time

    FT: Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

You are clearly going to miss someone like Rodri and I think they looked more like cutting Newcastle up with Foden.

It just wasn't vintage City today.

  18. 'Raya has moved Arsenal closer to Man City'published at 14:39 British Summer Time

    Arsenal v Leicester (15:00 BST)

    Kevin Nolan
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC's Football Daily podcast

    David RayaImage source, Getty Images

When Arsenal bought David Raya, everyone went 'why are they buying him?' Because Ramsdale had a great season but what he has done is he has made them better.

He has put Arsenal closer to Man City and now you look at him, he is a complete keeper. He makes really good saves, he can play with his feet. He is the one now who you look at and thinking who are your top two keepers.

I always thought Alisson. Obviously Ederson at Man City, and then you have got Raya. He has taken Arsenal to another level.

  19. 'I fully expect Everton to get a result today'published at 14:37 British Summer Time

Everton v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Alan Stubbs
Former Celtic & Everton defender on Football Focus

Alan doesn't think all the noise of a potential Everton take over should have a big impact on player performance on the pitch:

It shouldn’t do, but I think because of the amount of time it’s been going on, there will be things that have gone behind the scenes that we wont have known about.

It should settle everybody down and I fully expect Everton to get a result today. Not just expect, they have to get a result here today because with the new owners, there’s going to be even more pressure now on the manager to get results.

  20. 'It's been tough for Wolves'published at 14:37 British Summer Time

    Wolves v Liverpool (17:30 BST)

    Marc Albrighton
Former Leicester midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The fans are frustrated that they lost Kilman so early in the window and never really replaced him.

One of the centre-halves got injured in the week as well. It is a team effort.

Having said all that, and they have more or less played the big sides. It's been a tough start.
