  1. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Cardiff 0-0 Peterborough

The first real bit of pressure is applied by Cardiff City.

Ollie Tanner is at the heart of the move on the right.

He links up with Joel Colwill and Ronan Kpakio also gets involved.

The hosts, however, are crowded out on the edge of the area by a well organised Peterborough defence.

  2. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Cardiff 0-0 Peterborough

Peterborough United are very much as you would expect.

They are only too happy to move the ball around as they poke and prod for an early sign of weakness from Cardiff.

Posh, it is worth remembering, were among League One's most prolific sides last term with 68 goals.

It was the 81 they shipped at the other end that was the problem.

  3. 'Fans are on board'published at 4 mins

This is one of the more positive atmospheres I've encountered at a Cardiff City home game in recent times.

New manager, young players, adventurous new brand of football, and the fans are on board.

  4. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Cardiff 0-0 Peterborough

Brian Barry-Murphy has his Cardiff City side pushing a long way up field.

It is a very early sign of the front-foot football that we might see from the Bluebirds this season.

  5. Postpublished at 1 min

    Cardiff 0-0 Peterborough

Abraham Odoh gets on the ball early for Peterborough and looks bright.

Ollie Tanner is having none of it and shoves him off it.

It's been a busy start to Cardiff's first day back in League One, and that's before a ball has been kicked.

That's because chairman Mehmet Dalman has been speaking to me and a few other journalists this morning, addressing the takeover talk that's been surrounding the Bluebirds this summer.

In short, he's dismissed it all, Gareth Bale's bid included.

Cardiff City: Boss Barry-Murphy urges 'patience' over new signings

He is a coaching disciple of Pep Guardiola and the son of an Irish sporting legend who was a hero to Roy Keane.

Brian Barry-Murphy, Cardiff City's new head coach, is of considerable stock, though he has come to the Welsh capital to forge his own way.

This is a big job, and the Irishman is the ninth person in just four years to take it on.

Barry-Murphy is used to shouldering responsibility. His surname carries significant weight in Ireland thanks to the exploits of his father, Jimmy Barry-Murphy, who won a dizzying array of hurling and Gaelic football titles during a stellar dual-sport career.

Barry-Murphy the younger has chosen a different path, from playing in the English Football League to coaching at Manchester City.

You can read more about the Cardiff boss here.

Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphy has certainly underlined just how much it is a new era for the Bluebirds in League One.

Goalkeeper Matthew Turner starts his first game for the club, with the experienced Jak Alnwick on the bench. Before today, 23-year-old Turner hasn't featured for Cardiff since joining the club in the summer of 2022.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old midfielder Joel Colwill also makes his first start. He will be in the middle of the park alongside brother and captain Rubin.

  12. Will Posh pay for summer goal drain?published at 12:19 British Summer Time 2 August

    Cardiff v Peterborough (12:30 BST)

The loss of last season's three top scorers - Ricky Jade Jones, Kwame Poku and Malik Mothersille - has many wondering where Peterborough United's goals might come from?

With the trio bagging 35 League One goals between them last term, it's no wonder that is the most pressing question that faces the Posh.

Ben Stevenson of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, however, says Bradley Ihionvien might just be the "next striking sensation" the side needs.

In the League One club-by-club guide, this is how Darren Ferguson's side is seen to be shaping up.

Expectations? Posh fell short of their ambition of being play-off contenders last season and given they have lost another handful of key players, it's hard to see them finish in the top six this time around. However, the club hierarchy are confident that they'll finish higher than last season's 18th place.

Strengths? They have improved defensively with the permanent signing of centre back Sam Hughes and the arrival of goalkeeper Alex Bass. The midfield combo of Archie Collins and Brandon Khela also looks promising.

"An immediate return to the Championship."

In six words, BBC Wales' Dafydd Pritchard nailed what everyone with an attachment or affection for Cardiff City expects - and probably demands - of the Bluebirds on their return to the third tier for the first time in 22 years.

As part of BBC Sports' club-by-club preview, this is how Cardiff are viewed heading into the new season.

Strengths? A squad that still boasts several Championship-quality players and some promising youngsters. The question is whether or not they will still be there after the transfer window closes.

Weaknesses? A lack of goals has been the glaring weakness in recent seasons, while the defence unravelled during the relegation campaign too. Confidence is likely to be low among a group of players who have underachieved for some time now.

Difference-maker? If Cardiff can hold on to striker Yousef Salech, who they signed in January, he could become only the second man in 15 years to score 20 goals for the Bluebirds in one season.
