    Cardiff 1-1 Peterborough

Peterborough have the medics on the pitch to deal with Bradley Ihionvien.

He has gone down in some pain. Eventually he makes his way off the pitch while carrying one of his boots.

Will the Posh striker be able to continue?

  2. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Cardiff 1-1 Peterborough

Rubin Colwill now stings the palms of Peterborough goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic.

A low cross from the right is deflected into the Cardiff captain's path, and he shoots first time.

He managed to get his effort on target, but the Posh keeper was well placed to deal with it.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 53 mins

    Cardiff 1-1 Peterborough

Ollie Tanner has put him a huge shift today and now invites the attention of the referee with his foul on Harley Mills.

The Cardiff man is shown a yellow card for his efforts.

  4. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Cardiff 1-1 Peterborough

That leveller from Rubin Colwill has the Cardiff City Stadium rocking!

It is hardly a surprise, as you will find more than a few people saying that will be a goal-of-the-season contender.

  5. 'The technique is ridiculous'published at 13:40 British Summer Time 2 August

    Cardiff 1-1 Peterborough

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Cardiff and Wales defender on BBC Radio Wales

That is sensational, it really is. Rubin Colwill didn't look like he would shoot there but that's what he's capable of doing

The technique is ridiculous. It's that modern day technique of hitting the ball on the valve with the side of the foot. It was Gareth Bale-esque. The keeper had no chance.

Good start, getting that early goal and that changes the picture.

  6. 'A huge talent'published at 13:40 British Summer Time 2 August

    Cardiff 1-1 Peterborough

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Cardiff City Stadium

That is some way to mark your first game as Cardiff captain.

Rubin Colwill is a huge talent, that is beyond doubt.

But after years of frustration and underachievement, could this finally be the season the 23-year-old Wales attacking midfielder comes of age?

GOAL: Cardiff 1-1 Peterboroughpublished at 48 mins

    Rubin Colwill

What a superb way to level!

Joel Colwill earned the free-kick and his brother Rubin scores direct from it.

Everyone is set-up and waiting for the set-piece to be delivered into the box, but captain Rubin Colwill shoots.

He completely catches Peterborough goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic out with his powerful shot that swerves and dips on the way to the back of the net.

  8. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

Joel Colwill is body checked by Oscar Wallin and manages to get a free-kick for it.

It seems a soft call, but it sets the Bluebirds up for a set-piece on the edge of the area.

  9. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

During the break I mentioned Cardiff City's opening-day struggles over the years.

Peterborough, by comparison, are the League One masters of the opening day win.

Since the EFL rebrand in 2004-05, no side has won more opening day matches than Peterborough United (12).

  10. Kick-off: Second-halfpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 2 August

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

We are back up and running in the Welsh capital.

Can Cardiff City battle back to take something from the opening-day game?

  11. Postpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 2 August

    HT: Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

Cardiff City have work to do if they are going to improve their underwhelming record in opening day fixtures.

They have won just one of their last seven opening league fixtures (D2 L4), beating Norwich City 1-0 in the Championship in 2022.

It's the first Saturday of the season, the sun is out(ish) on this early August afternoon and an entire campaign is stretched out ahead of us.

It's that sweet spot in the season - the one before a ball has been kicked - where you can justify having unchecked ambitions.

The polar opposite, of course, is also true. The summer may very well have been a stinker for your club and you are braced for a tough campaign.

Either way, get in touch on X by using the hashtag #bbcefl to share your outlook for the coming campaign.

  13. 'Ihionvien has done really well'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 2 August

    HT: Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

    Nathan Albon
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire commentator

Bradley Ihionvien has done really well, he's used his physical presence well against the young Cardiff centre-back Dylan Lawlor.

He's had decent half especially with everything that's gone on with him.

He's still on the transfer list but he's worthy of the number nine shirt so far.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 2 August

Bradley Ihionvien's penalty is the difference at half-time as Peterborough lead Cardiff City 1-0.

It was a goal that came against the run of play, with Cardiff City looking bright in their first competitive half of football under boss Brian Barry-Murphy.

  15. Postpublished at 45+1mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

Cardiff City try to play the ball out from the back and a stray pass is so nearly punished.

The ball is pickpocketed by goalscorer Bradley Ihionvien, who lets rip from outside the box. Matthew Turner, however, is equal to it and pushes it wide for a corner.

  16. ADDED TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

The fourth official holds up the board to show there will be two additional minutes.

At the same time, Peterborough have a corner which is wasted as it floats out of play.

  17. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

And Cardiff go close again from the resulting corner.

This time it's Rubin Colwill with the header, and it's deflected wide.

The Bluebirds now set up for a corner from the left, but Peterborough deal with this one more convincingly.

  18. GREAT SAVE!published at 42 mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

Nicholas Bilokapic does brilliantly to come up with a reactive save to tip a header from Yousef Salech over the bar.

The effort had plenty of power on it.

  19. Postpublished at 39 mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

Yousef Salech is the latest to threaten for the hosts as the ball is whipped into the area at pace.

Some great defending by David Okagbue at the near post is enough to push Salech off.

  20. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Cardiff 0-1 Peterborough

Cardiff City go looking to hit back in a hurry, with Ollie Tanner testing Nicholas Bilokapic. The shot is well held by the the Peterborough keeper.
