Elsewhere in League Two, Bristol Rovers open their campaign at home to Harrogate Town in Darrell Clarke's first game in his second spell in charge of the Gas.

Rovers' relegation last season saw them part company with Inigo Calderon and their eight summer signings, which include former Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran and Stockport full-back Macauley Southam-Hales, suggest they are in the mood for an immediate return to the third tier.

Last season's beaten play-off finalists Walsall host Swindon Town as they aim to shake off their Wembley hangover while relegated Shrewsbury Town take on Bromley in the first ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.

Martin Paterson leads Notts County out for the first time as the Magpies take the trip to south Wales to take on Newport County and Gillingham visit Accrington Stanley, unbeaten in their last seven visits to the Wham Ground.

Play-off semi-finalists Chesterfield host Barrow, Colchester United open their account at home to Tranmere Rovers and another of last season's relegated sides Crawley Town travel to Grimsby Town in the search of repeating their double over the Mariners two seasons ago.

Cambridge United will also hope to bounce back from last season's relegation with a good result against Michael Flynn's Cheltenham Town and Crewe go to Salford City looking to improve on their run at the end of last season which saw them fail to score in seven of their final nine league matches.

  4. Bees back in the big timepublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 2 August

    Barnet v Fleetwood (15:00 BST)

Barnet welcome Fleetwood at The Hive in their first match back in the EFL for seven years this afternoon.

The Bees were crowned champions of the National League last term, amassing 102 points, six clear of second-placed York City.

Today they face a Fleetwood side managed by Pete Wild who finished 14th in League Two following their relegation in 2024.

These two sides have only faced each other three times in the EFL, with Barnet winning 2-0 in their last league meeting in 2013.

Can the Bees carry on their winning ways or will the Cod Army prove to be party poopers?

For Tom Cleverley the time has come to take charge of Plymouth Argyle in a competitive game for the first time.

The former Watford boss is the fifth permanent head coach Argyle have had in less than two years.

His pre-season has not been without problems - he has no centre-forward starting this afternoon after an injury to Bim Pepple and no new central attacking signing, while the likes of Conor Hazard and Julio Pleguezuelo are out.

But he comes with the ambition of an immediate return to the Championship after Argyle's relegation in May - if he can guide Plymouth's new-look squad to promotion in the spring he will be hailed as a hero here.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce says it's been a 'frustrating' pre-season

Blackpool take on Stevenage this afternoon with a total of 15 first-team players leaving Bloomfield Road this summer, including Rob Apter and Sonny Carey to Charlton Athletic, with veteran Jordan Rhodes being released.

"I have to say it's been a frustrating pre-season because nobody goes to work until the big boys decide which young ones they'll allow to go out on loan and then that filters down to the Championship," Bruce told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We're still three, four, five, short of where we'd like to be.

"It was a scramble to start with people who are out of contract and I think we've recruited very well so far. Now we just need, at the top end of the pitch, some reinforcements and get ready for it."
