Match Facts

  • This will be the first ever European meeting between Sturm Graz and Club Brugge; the Austrian club have lost their last three such games against Belgian opposition, all without scoring.

  • Club Brugge have won five of their last six European matches against Austrian opponents, losing the other 4-0 to FC Red Bull Salzburg in the 2018-19 UEFA Europa League.

  • Sturm Graz have now lost on MD1 of all four of their UEFA Champions League campaigns. They’ve also lost on MD2 in two of their previous three campaigns, winning the other 3-0 against Galatasaray in 2000-01.

  • Club Brugge won their opening two matches in their last UEFA Champions League season in 2022-23 but lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund on MD1 this season. They haven’t lost their first two games in a campaign since 2018-19 under Ivan Leko.

  • Six of Sturm Graz’s eight shots against Brest were from outside the box (75%), the highest percentage of any side on MD1 of this season’s UEFA Champions League. However, Graz have scored the most goals in Champions League history without scoring from outside the box (all 21 inside the box).

  • Club Brugge have conceded a penalty goal in each of their last three UEFA Champions League matches, becoming just the third side to do so after Juventus in 2001 and Werder Bremen in 2005. No team has ever had a penalty scored against them in four games in a row in the competition.

  • In their 3-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on MD1, Club Brugge attempted 18 shots, their most in a UEFA Champions League game on record since 2003-04. They averaged just 8.6 shots per game in their last campaign in 2022-23.

  • Sturm Graz had the highest direct speed of any team on MD1 of this season’s UEFA Champions League, moving the ball upfield at an average speed of 2.5 metres per second (in open play).

  • Andreas Skov Olsen was involved in six of Club Brugge’s 18 shots on MD1 against Borussia Dortmund (3 shots, 3 chances created) becoming just the fourth Brugge player since 2003-04 to have both 3+ shots and create 3+ chances in a UEFA Champions League match, and first since Charles De Ketelaere in September 2021 vs PSG.

  • William Bøving created three of Sturm Graz’s eight attempts against Brest on MD1. He also applied 35 high-intensity pressures in the middle third of the pitch, the fourth-most of any player across the first round of 2024-25 UEFA Champions League matches.
