Birmingham City's number one priority this season is almost certainly winning promotion back to the Championship.

But there's nothing like a potential day out at Wembley to whet the appetite - and that is exactly what is on offer tonight as they welcome Bradford in the EFL Trophy semi-final.

Blues last won this competition in 1995 and their most recent trip to the national stadium was 14 years ago when they beat Arsenal 2-1 in the League Cup final.

As for the Bantams, they've never made it to the EFL Trophy final before.

Bradford last enjoyed a walk down Wembley Way not once but twice in 2013 for their 5-0 League Cup final defeat by Swansea and then a 3-0 win over Northampton Town in the League Two play-off final.

Birmingham are in excellent form, nine points clear at the top of League One with a game in hand and have won 17 of their past 21 games in all competitions (D3 L1), including a 1-0 victory at Stevenage in the quarter-final.

League Two Bradford are also chasing promotion this season and on a similarly impressive run with 12 wins from their past 16 matches (D2 L2), one of which was a 1-0 success at Rotherham to reach the semis.

    Preston v Millwall (19:45 GMT)

Millwall manager Alex NeilImage source, Rex Features
    • Millwall manager Alex Neil has lost three of his four previous league meetings against former side Preston as a manager, though did win his only such trip to Deepdale with Stoke City in October 2022 (2-0).
    • Preston North End are winless in their past 11 league encounters with Millwall (D4 L7), including a 3-1 defeat in the reverse fixture in September.
    • Millwall haven’t lost an away league game at Preston since a 3-2 defeat in December 2018, winning on three of their five trips since (D2).
    • Preston have only won one of their past 12 Championship games against London clubs (D3 L8), a 2-0 win at QPR in April 2023.
    • Millwall have won two of their past three away league games, although lost their last 5-1 at Plymouth – the first time they had shipped 5+ goals in an away game in the Championship since May 2021 at Coventry (1-6).

Preston North End boss Paul Heckingbottom makes four changes from the 0-0 draw with Burnley on Saturday.

Liam Lindsay, Ali McCann, Sam Greenwood and Emil Riis all come in.

Ryan Ledson, Jayden Meghoma, Mads Frokjaer-Jensen and Milutin Osmajic all drop to the bench.

Alex Neil makes just the one alteration for Millwall following their 1-1 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Ra'ees Bangura-WIlliams returns to the starting line-up in place of Aaron Connolly, who is among the subs.

Josh Coburn also returns to the squad for the first time since breaking his foot at Oxford on 30 November and takes a spot on the bench.

  6. Lilywhites and Lions trying to claw into play-off contentionpublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    Preston v Millwall (19:45 GMT)

Aspirations of making the Championship play-offs are still very much alive for both these sides, though the margin for error narrows with every passing week.

Preston and Millwall couldn't be more evenly matched, both on 41 points and seven points back from the top six.

The Lilywhites have won three of their past five (D1 L1) to keep themselves in contention and are unbeaten in nine matches (W3 D6) at Deepdale since a 3-1 defeat to Bristol City on 2 November.

The Lions reignited their promotion hopes with three wins on the bounce before they were hammered 5-1 at Plymouth last week and drew 1-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

If either of Preston or Millwall are to push on and stake a genuine claim to be in the mix come May, then victory tonight feels almost essential.

Championship table from sixth to 15th before kick-off on 18 February

There isn't a great deal to separate this cluster of 10 teams all battling for the Championship play-off places.

Blackburn, who are fifth and just cut out of this graphic, are on 51 points.

Preston and Millwall are tied on 41 points and either could move within just four points of the top six with victory tonight.

You get the impression this race for promotion is going to go right down to the wire and every single point could be crucial.

With leaders Birmingham not in league action tonight, second-placed Wycombe can close the gap to six points if they can beat Bristol Rovers at home.

Wanderers have been held to 1-1 draws in both their past two matches.

Third-placed Wrexham start the night two points adrift of Wycombe and can make it three wins in a row at home if they beat Leyton Orient, who occupy the final play-off spot only on goal difference.

Huddersfield are also in the play-off places, in fifth, and travel to third-from-bottom Shrewsbury.

And Burton will try and snap a three-game run without a win as they travel to Stevenage, who also have not won in three matches.

Elsewhere, Mansfield host Lincoln and Crawley play Wigan.

Runaway League One leaders Birmingham City are otherwise engaged tonight with their EFL Trophy semi-final, meaning both Wycombe and Wrexham could narrow the gap at the top.

Huddersfield and Leyton Orient are also both in action and looking to strengthen their grip on a play-off spot.

At the other end, three of the bottom four in Crawley, Shrewsbury and Burton Albion will aim to boost their survival hopes.

Three matches in League Two tonight.

AFC Wimbledon start the night in second but the top five are separated by just three points. They travel to Fleetwood in 14th and are unbeaten in 10 matches.

Notts County, in fourth, are just a point outside the top three and travel to Colchester. But their hosts have reeled off four wins in their last five games.

Doncaster are sixth and a win at second-from-bottom Morecambe could take them up to third, however, Rovers have lost their last two.

League Two table before kick-off on 18 February

The baton is ever-changing hands in the automatic promotion and play-off spots in League Two.

AFC Wimbledon have the chance to close the gap to leaders Walsall to five points if they win at Fleetwood.

Doncaster can break back into the top three spots with victory at second-bottom Morecambe, who would climb out of the relegation zone if they can pick up three points.

Notts County also have the chance to move into an automatic promotion spot when they welcome Colchester, who themselves are still within reach of the play-offs.

Plenty to play for this evening.

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Sunderland

Leeds players celebrate a 95th-minute winner in the 2-1 victory over SunderlandImage source, Rex Features

We had the small matter of Leeds United's clash with Sunderland in the Championship last night and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Both sides are chasing automatic promotion but it was the Whites who eventually came out on top thanks to some late drama and an unlikely hero to return to the summit.

With the Black Cats leading 1-0 through Wilson Isidor's excellent spin and finish in the first-half, Daniel Farke introduced Joe Rothwell and Pascal Struijk.

And what an impact they had, linking up for the Dutch centre-back's headed equaliser in the 78th minute, before repeating the trick in the final minute of injury time as Struijk's double gave Leeds a vital 2-1 win.
