    Club Brugge 0-0 Aston Villa

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think we have been looking at the wrong end of the pitch for Aston Villa. I would be more concerned about the defence.

Axel Disasi has come in and it is difficult to see where he plays, is he at right back or will Ezri Konsa slot in there?

He had problems at Chelsea and was moved on here and the Villa fans haven't quite taken to him yet. It is a big game for him and that back line tonight.

Villa have 1 win in 7 in the league. Not sure this pre-match confidence (seemingly based on a decent start for a couple of cast-offs) is justified...

What an opportunity this is for both of these clubs, playing for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League formerly the European Cup.

Aston Villa haven't been there since 1984, and Club Brugge haven't been there since 1978.

I suppose one of the things that made Rashford an attractive signing for Villa was him not being cup tied for the Champions League. Villa fans seem happy to have him, which is nice to see too, after being so unwanted at the top level.

Club Brugge v Aston Villa (17:45 GMT)

    Rory Smith
Chief Soccer Correspondent for The Athletic, on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast

It's hard not to be impressed. Villa have taken to it [the Champions League] like a duck to water.

They were helped a little bit with a relatively kind group stage lottery draw, but they sailed through effectively. They came eighth in the table and that meant they got automatic qualification, which as one of the lower seeded teams is an incredible achievement.

They have looked like they belong and that is the most you can say for a team that hasn't been in the competition for 40 years
