Heading into the final 15 minutes of this one and goal-laden opening is a thing of the distant past.

Marvin Johnson cracks a shot just wide as the away side look to put this tie to bed.

There won't be another EFL Cup double for Ben Waine tonight: the Plymouth forward's been replaced by Ibrahim Cissoko.

Morgan Whittaker and Mustapha Bundo are also on for Callum Wright and Frederick Issaka, with Whittaker lifting a straightforward chance high over the crossbar from close range soon afterwards.

Argyle haven't scored more than once in a competitive game for 14 matches, including this one. They last did so in a 2-0 win at Middlesbrough on 24 February, and they're trying to repeat the trick here.

Cheltenham have now absorbed 26 shots. They've gone close enough tonight to know they can score, though, having hit the woodwork during the first half.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 14 August

    Leeds 0-1 Middlesbrough

Not often you see a standing ovation for an opposition player.

Luke Ayling comes on for Boro after Jonny Howson pulls up with an injury.

Ayling had eight years with the Whites before leaving for the Teessiders in the summer.

He's then booed when he gets the ball of course!

  4. 'Crab football'published at 21:17 British Summer Time 14 August

    Hull 1-2 Sheff Wed

    Lee Bullen
Former Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager on BBC Radio Sheffield

It's been crab football in this second half - both teams just going side to side with nothing much going forward.

  5. Postpublished at 21:14 British Summer Time 14 August

    Leeds 0-1 Middlesbrough

    So close to 2-0!

Anferenee Dijksteel must have hammered the jaffa cakes at half-time because he's flying right now!

He does brilliantly to steam forward down the right and cut the ball back for Delano Burgzorg.

The Dutchman sees his initial shot blocked and then skies the rebound into the night sky.

Leeds are still in the dressing room.

Mike, Paignton: Waine delivers for Wayne!

Rooney will be relieved to have inspired a first Plymouth goal since December from Waine. Although the New Zealand forward did score twice in a 2-0 home win over Leyton Orient at this stage of the EFL Cup last year...

    BEAUTIFUL goal!!!

Boro have been well on top in the first few minutes of this half and now they have the lead.

Anfernee Dijksteel picks the ball up just inside the Leeds half on the right hand side and marauds forward and forward and inwards and then passes a lovely shot into the bottom corner with his left foot.

    Superb.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 14 August

    Hull City 1-2 Sheff Wed

There'll be no debut hat-trick for Charlie McNeill, the striker is taken off for Bailey Cadamarteri.

The home side make a triple sub of their own, including bringing on striker Oscar Estupinan.

Finally a goal that this game has been craving - and a first for Wayne Rooney at Argyle.

Freshly back from the Olympics New Zealand striker Ben Waine can claim to be the answer to the newest quiz question for Argyle fans.

You would have to think the Championship side will see this game out from here.

  10. Second halfpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 14 August

    Leeds 0-0 Middlesbrough

We're back under way at Elland Road.

The away side grew into the first half of this one, could they be the ones to break the deadlock?

  11. 'Unbelievable free-kick'published at 21:05 British Summer Time 14 August

    Plymouth 1-0 Cheltenham

    Frank Nouble
Former Plymouth striker on BBC Radio Devon

It's an unbelievable free-kick and he's unlucky not to score.

It's also so unlucky for Joe Day because it's a great save.

But you always want your strikers to follow up and that's what Ben does.

  12. goal

GOAL: Plymouth 1-0 Cheltenhampublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 14 August

    Ben Waine (61 mins)

Plymouth score their first goal under Wayne Rooney!

Adam Randell's free-kick is a good one, whipped over the wall and touched against the woodwork at full stretch by Joe Day.

Ben Waine follows up to tap in with the goalkeeper grounded.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 14 August

    Plymouth 0-0 Cheltenham

Cheltenham's Lewis Payne is booked for dragging down Ben Waine.

This free-kick is within shooting distance. Adam Randell is over it and undoubtedly hoping to be more accurate than he was when he almost found the back of the stand with his last shot.

  14. 'They smell blood'published at 21:01 British Summer Time 14 August

    Plymouth 0-0 Cheltenham

    Frank Nouble
Former Plymouth striker on BBC Radio Devon

Cheltenham have played their hand here with these subs.

And they sense they can win the ball up quite high. They're pressing pretty aggressively. They smell blood.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 14 August

    Plymouth 0-0 Cheltenham

A shot high into the stand from Plymouth's Adam Randell allows Cheltenham the chance to make three changes.

Joel Colwill, whose two goals on his debut against Newport on Saturday included a 96th-minute winner, is on alongside two fellow new signings: former Wrexham captain Luke Young and ex-QPR defender Arkell Jude-Boyd.

  16. Postpublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 14 August

    Plymouth 0-0 Cheltenham

    Brent Pilnick
    BBC Sport at Home Park

The last time these two sides met in a competitive fixture was in the EFL Trophy semi-finals in February 2023.

On that night it needed penalties to separate them, with Argyle going through after Callum Burton saved Town's final three spot kicks following a 1-1 draw.

It's early days in this second half - but could history repeat itself?

  17. 'Not overly happy'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 14 August

    HT: Leeds 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Aidy White
Former Leeds United full-back on BBC Radio Leeds

I'm not overly happy if I'm Daniel Farke going in at the break.

They've defended fairly well but haven't created much going forward.

    The movement has been static.

  18. Second halfpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 14 August

    Hull City 1-2 Sheff Wed

We're back under way in Hull.

Can Charlie McNeill complete his debut hat-trick for the Owls?

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 14 August

    Leeds 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leeds and Middlesbrough players challenge for the ballImage source, PA Media

Eight changes from the hosts, seven from the visitors and zero goals.

The closest either side have come in this was probably Junior Firpo's shot that was well saved by Boro debutant Sol Brynn in the opening five minutes.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 14 August

    Leeds 0-0 Middlesbrough

Junior Firpo is booked for the home side for trying to get a piggyback off Isaiah Jones.
