    That didn't take long!

Some way to mark your debut this!

Charlie McNeill joined the Owls after being released by Manchester United in the summer and he's shown his quality in the first minute of his time at Wednesday.

Pol Valentin gets forward and crosses in for Michael Smith to tee up McNeill to leather a shot in off the bar.

Plymouth is hosting the British Fireworks Championships tonight - and there could be fireworks at Home Park as well as Wayne Rooney takes charge of Argyle for the first time on home soil.

The Pilgrims go into the game off the back of a disastrous season-opener at Sheffield Wednesday which saw Rooney's side lose 4-0 - and it could have been more.

Argyle have made nine changes and will hope they can repeat a 5-1 victory over Cheltenham they secured in a pre-season friendly last month.

One thing is for sure - if Argyle struggle against League Two opposition tonight there will be a lot of pressure on Rooney already.

Here are a few of the headlines from last night's 32 Carabao Cup first round ties:

    • There were big wins for Championship sides Blackburn and Watford, with the former winning 6-1 at League One newcomers Stockport and the latter easing to a 5-0 home win over League Two MK Dons.
    • Surprise of the night came at Fleetwood where the League Two side came from a goal down to beat second tier West Brom 2-1.
    • Norwich eventually eked out a 4-3 home win over Stevenage and fellow Championship side Derby came back to beat near neighbours Chesterfield 2-1.
    • Preston, who parted company with boss Ryan Lowe on Monday, beat divisional rivals Sunderland 2-0.
    • There penalty shoot out wins for Barnsley, Bolton, Colchester, Grimsby and Shrewsbury.

Sunday's opening league match could scarcely have gone any better for Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls, beaten by Arsenal in the final of this competition 31 years ago, romped to a 4-0 home win over Plymouth to give fans real hope that they can kick on after dramatically avoiding relegation last time out.

Hull City had a more mundane start to the Championship season, as they drew 1-1 with Bristol City thanks to an injury-time leveller from Oscar Estupinan.

Wednesday boss Danny Rohl makes 11 changes from the weekend, while German compatriot Tim Walter brings in Anthony Racioppi, Liam Millar and Finley Burns for first starts for the club as part of five changes.

  7. Repeat or revenge?published at 19:33 British Summer Time 14 August

Those nine new faces in Plymouth's starting line-up in the early evening sunshine will include a debut for former Hungary youth international defender Kornel Szucs, who joined nine days ago and has evidently been one of the players to impress Wayne Rooney since his side's 4-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Rooney says he exchanged "tough" words with his squad during a meeting on Monday and is excited about this tie after seeing a positive response from them in training.

Cheltenham have made five changes and would love a repeat of their last-gasp 3-2 home win over one of manager Michael Flynn's former sides, Newport County, on Saturday.

An upset would also give the Robins ample revenge for a 5-1 home defeat in this fixture in a pre-season friendly on 20 July.

Good evening and welcome to the live text coverage of the three remaining Carabao Cup first round ties.

We might just have a triumvirate of games but they include the 2004 winners of the competition, two Yorkshire sides who were beaten finalists in 1993 and 1996 and a team looking to get back on track after a 4-0 opening day defeat on Sunday.

Fifteen minutes until the action starts. Onwards!
