    Leeds 0-0 Middlesbrough

Leeds have given starts tonight to a couple of players who had looked to be on their way out of the club.

Max Wober and Brenden Arronson both left on season-long loans in the summer of 2023 after relegation to the Championship, with fans not overly impressed with the manner of their exits.

However, neither loan worked out and the duo are back in West Yorkshire and back in the team tonight.

USA international Aaronson scored a late equaliser and then blew a great chance to get a winner in an action-packed cameo in the 3-3 draw with Portsmouth on Saturday.

    Plymouth 0-0 Cheltenham

Ryan Hardie has already tested Joe Day but the Cheltenham goalkeeper has little to worry about from a free-kick in a promising position near the penalty area to the right of centre.

The Scottish forward scoops his effort well over the crossbar.

It's 20 years since Middlesbrough tasted success in this competition.

Michael Carrick led them to the semi-finals last season and they even led 1-0 after the first leg of the semi-final against Chelsea before succumbing to a 6-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Leeds, who lost to Aston Villa in the 1996 League Cup final, are looking to get their home form back on track.

After nearly going the whole of last season unbeaten in front of their own fans Daniel Farke's side have only won one of their past five games at Elland Road.

Both of these sides are using tonight's game to help tune up players who didn't see any/much action on Saturday, with eight changes from the hosts and just the seven from the visitors.

    What a start!

Sheffield Wednesday have had plenty of chances to make it 2-0 but it is the home side who have scored the game's second goal.

A ball is played up the middle towards Marvin Mehlem and it's misjudged by the Owls defence to allow the Hull man to finish coolly for his first goal for the club.
