Salah negotiations - 'They’re trying to dig out the best possible deal'published at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time
Southampton 2-3 Liverpool
Liverpool fan John Gibbons, from the Anfield Wrap, told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast that he believes the club's owners are "hedging" their bets with Mohamed Salah in a bid to strike the best possible deal in contract negotiations.
“What he gives this football club and what he has over a number of years has been phenomenal," said John.
"But they look at it in a very cold way. We might all think he’s fantastic, but is he worth what he’s asking for? Is he going to be worth that in two years if he wants a three-year contract? Can they spend the money better?
"They [Liverpool's owners - Fenway Sports Group] made their money hedge funding and I guess that’s what they’re doing now - they’re trying to dig out the best possible deal.
"As fans, it gives you anxiety because you can’t imagine a life without him, but I think he’ll stay."
