Matt, Birmingham: What's going wrong with Villa at the moment? Can't keep a clean sheet and haven't won a Premier League game in ages.

Hi, Matt. Villa are definitely going through a lull. They did salvage a draw against Crystal Palace but are now winless in their last six games across all competitions.

I have no doubt Unai Emery will find a solution as he is such a top-class coach, but perhaps Villa are suffering, as Newcastle United did when they finished in the top four, from the extra pressure and games involved with qualifying for the Champions League, especially under the new format.

Palace certainly exploited Villa’s high line, but that is how Emery plays. I still have high hopes for Villa this season.

I personally think this question is a week too early. Liverpool play Man City next week [Sunday]. That’s potentially a title-defining fixture. 11 points clear with momentum, 8 points clear and consistent, or 5 points clear with the main challenger back in form… the result next week completely changes the complexion of the league and the question of whether Liverpool are going to win it all!

  3. 'It's never over until the Premier League is lifted'published at 11:14 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

    Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

The general consensus is that Liverpool have put themselves in a very strong position to win the Premier League title in Arne Slot's first season in charge.

They moved eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City following the weekend's fixtures and host the defending Premier League champions in their next league game on Sunday.

As reported earlier, the Opta supercomputer has given Liverpool a 76% chance of being crowned champions, but former Reds midfielder Don Hutchinson told the latest edition of Football Daily that he believes it is not quite so cut and dry.

"I would have it 50% Liverpool, 25% Arsenal, 25% Manchester City," he said. "It's going to come down to that game [at home to Manchester City] next week. The atmosphere at Anfield is going to be incredible."

Former Liverpool forward Natasha Dowie also urged caution on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast: "We have to perform a lot better than we did against Southampton yesterday. I don’t think Liverpool were good enough.

"They always seem to find a way at the moment, but it’s never over until the Premier League is lifted."

I'm quite convinced there won't be a single Liverpool fan calling the title race over by now. The ones shouting that the loudest are undoubtedly Arsenal and City fans - supporters can use mind games just as much as managers can!

Former Liverpool forward Natasha Dowie picked Mohamed Salah as her hero of the Premier League weekend on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, and urged the club to resolve the Egypt forward's contract negotiations:

"My hero’s got to be Mo Salah. Definitely made me happy over the weekend. Whenever Liverpool are struggling he always seems to be able to pop up and deliver."

On Liverpool's title chances: "It’s not over but the table looks good at the minute."

On Salah's contract situation: "He needs to get that contract signed as soon as possible."

Mohamed Salah has reportedly said that he is disappointed by the lack of a contract offer from Liverpool, but what is actually going on behind the scenes?

Liverpool have not publicly commented on Salah's remarks.

However, a club source told BBC Sport that contact between Liverpool and Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, is ongoing and has been positive.

  9. Premier League title win probabilitypublished at 10:39 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

Liverpool now have an incredible 76% chance of winning the 2024-25 Premier League title, according to Opta's supercomputer.

That's up from 60.3% from the last round of fixtures.

The 3-2 victory over Southampton on Sunday tipped the probability even further in their favour after it had already seen a considerable boost following Manchester City's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite Pep Guardiola's side suffering an unprecedented fifth loss in a row in all competitions on Saturday, the supercomputer still has them second favourites with a 15.4% chance.

There is a 7.7% chance for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal to get their hands on the trophy, while Chelsea and Brighton, who sit on the same amount of points as the Gunners, have just a 0.6% and 0.1% chance, respectively.

Liverpool's to lose? Their position has been flattered by some unexpected results by their rivals, and getting more than their fair share of good fortune. Just yesterday they were gifted three goals. They also arrived this season with less pressure, being the first with Slot, but now they are seen as hot title contenders, that’s changed. They will be expected to maul City next weekend but beware the injured lion. For now, Liverpool are favourites for the title but only just. I expect them to falter somewhere, and the chasing pack to close in. Then we will see if Liverpool are worthy.

Mohamed Salah has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 12 Premier League matches this season, four more direct goal contributions than any other player in England's top-flight.

Those goal contributions have directly earned Liverpool 17 of their 31 points this season.

Without them, they'd have just 14 points and be sat 13th in the Premier League table.

  12. When is Salah contracted to?published at 10:16 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

Mohamed Salah's contract with Liverpool expires on 30 June, 2025.

  14. 'No-one in the game can fill Salah's boots'published at 10:02 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on Football Daily

100% there is no-one in the game that can come and fill his [Mohamed Salah's] boots. Nowhere near.

What a lot of people miss about him, because he is so slight and a winger, is that he is fit for 90 minutes every single week.

Of any generation of Premier League players, I think he will be talked about being the best. I am not saying he is the best, but he is in the conversation of being the best Premier League player of all time.

  15. What is Mohamed Salah's goal record for Liverpool?published at 09:53 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

Mohamed Salah has been an absolute goal machine since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017.

In the Premier League alone he has found the net 165 times in 262 games, with the majority of those coming from his favoured position on the right-wing. That's an average of 0.63 goals per game.

He has also provided 74 assists across those fixtures.

In all competitions those numbers bump up even further.

Salah has scored 223 times for the Reds in 367 matches including an incredible 42 in the Champions League.

The 32-year-old is also now just one assist off reaching a century of assists for the club.

  16. Salah negotiations - 'They’re trying to dig out the best possible deal'published at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

    Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

Liverpool fan John Gibbons, from the Anfield Wrap, told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast that he believes the club's owners are "hedging" their bets with Mohamed Salah in a bid to strike the best possible deal in contract negotiations.

“What he gives this football club and what he has over a number of years has been phenomenal," said John.

"But they look at it in a very cold way. We might all think he’s fantastic, but is he worth what he’s asking for? Is he going to be worth that in two years if he wants a three-year contract? Can they spend the money better?

"They [Liverpool's owners - Fenway Sports Group] made their money hedge funding and I guess that’s what they’re doing now - they’re trying to dig out the best possible deal.

"As fans, it gives you anxiety because you can’t imagine a life without him, but I think he’ll stay."

If you are Arne Slot and have learned anything from watching Jurgen Klopp's tapes - you never take him [Mohamed Salah] off. There are players at Liverpool that you can take off and rest, but you would never do it with Mo Salah.

He might get to the point where he might be a little bit like [Cristiano] Ronaldo in his later years. Ronaldo at Manchester United a couple of years ago was probably not closing down, people were talking about [a lack of] intensity in terms of closing down from the front, but he was still scoring goals. That's what you might see from Mo Salah if he stays on.

He might not be super important in the 90 minutes, but every single game he will score, maybe score a brace, he will have assists. He is so crucial to this team it is untrue.

  18. 'I'm probably more out than in' - Salahpublished at 09:31 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November

In a video posted by NBC on X, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah told reporters that he is "probably more out than in" in regards to his future beyond this season at Anfield.

What's the latest you can tell us on your future?

"We are almost in December and I haven't received an offer to stay at the club yet so I am probably more out than in."

    Would you like to stay?

"I have been at the club for many years. There is no club like this but in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven't received anything yet about my future."

I'm sure the fans would love you to stay?

"I love the fans and the fans love me but in the end it is not in my hands or the fans hands."

How do you feel that there hasn't been an offer, does that disappoint you?

    "Of course, yes."

Have you spoken to the club about why there hasn't been an offer?

"I'm not going to retire soon. I'm focusing on the season and I'm trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I'm disappointed but we will see."
