We are awaiting comment from Liverpool on Arne Slot announcing that he will be their manager next season. Once that comes we will bring it straight to you, along with any other news updates.

For now, let's turn back to today's Premier League news conferences - resuming with Rob Edwards and Luton Town, who need snookers to avoid relegation back to the Championship tomorrow...

  2. Who is Arne Slot?published at 16:22 British Summer Time 17 May

It's a name which has become very familiar to Liverpool fans in the last month - but is Arne Slot the right man for the job?

The BBC's Football News Show recently profiled the Liverpool manager-in-waiting, and what he will bring to the Premier League.

  3. End of two eraspublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 17 May

Arne Slot's final game at Feyenoord, after three years in charge, will be Sunday's Eredivisie home match with Excelsior.

Jurgen Klopp's time at Liverpool ends on the same day with a home Premier League game against Wolves.

    Pleasingly symmetrical.

  4. Football's worst kept secret?published at 16:18 British Summer Time 17 May

This is the first time Arne Slot has confirmed verbally that he will be the new Liverpool manager - although, in truth, it is hardly a surprise.

BBC Sport's Mandeep Sanghera first reported in April that Slot was a candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with the man himself saying a couple of days later that he wanted the job on Merseyside.

Compensation was agreed shortly after, and contract negotiations began between Slot and Liverpool.

Those have evidently proven successful, and Slot will be in the Reds hotseat for the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp has been in charge of Liverpool since October 2015 but is leaving at the end of the season after winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and two EFL Cups.

Since Klopp's announcement in January, several managers had been considered leading contenders but in April BBC Sport learned that Slot was set to get the job.

A compensation deal worth up to £9.4m was agreed with Feyenoord, and Slot has now confirmed the news.

  8. Fifa trialling new review-based VAR systempublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 17 May

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Football's world governing body Fifa are trialling a new VAR system with two tennis-style reviews per match.

Managers can challenge a decision by "twirling their finger in the air and giving the fourth official a card", said Fifa referees’ chief Pierluigi Collina.

The cheaper video technology system was outlined by Collina at Fifa Congress on Friday.

Players can also recommend that their coach requests a review, given they are closer to the play, Collina said.

IIt is not intended to replace the system used in the elite competitions, but if Fifa were to take the idea forward, there would be nothing to stop major leagues requesting to implement it.

Some have suggested the idea of reviews as a better way forward, including Serie A.

Their current plan is to continue the trial in Fifa’s youth competitions.

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says that the potential for the Eagles to finish 10th in the Premier League table is good motivation for his side ahead of Sunday's fixture against Aston Villa.

"I'm pleased with the performances we've had," he said.

"We want to win, but Villa want to win too.

"We always focus on what we can influence. If we don't do our job, we don't win, we can't be 10th.

"It's good motivation at home to say thank you to the fans."

    Crystal Palace

The positive mood in the Crystal Palace camp has a positive impact on the players' performances, says Eagles manager Oliver Glasner.

"You can see they are having fun and enjoying it. I like standing outside watching them and how much fun they have," he said.

"Everyone feels well, likes to come in, in the morning, work hard and have fun together. This is crucial for their performances on the pitch."

In-form duo Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are two players in particular who benefit from this, added the Palace boss.

"They stayed 30 minutes after training doing some finishing, trying some tricks," he said

"You can see how much they enjoy football. Loving what they do. Sometimes I just watch them having fun."

  12. Palace team news: Hughes out, Lerma returnspublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 17 May

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Will Hughes is unavailable for Sunday's match against Aston Villa.

"Will is out for the last game against Aston Villa,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

"It looked terrible on the video – in the game and on the video – but fortunately everything is OK with his ligament.

"He has a bone bruise and he will be out for several weeks. He should be back for pre-season, but he is out for the last game."

Jefferson Lerma will return on Sunday, however.

"Jefferson Lerma is fit and will come back to the squad, and all others are fit," he added.

"I’m always pleased if a player comes back from injury.

"It’s good, but he was out for four weeks now and this was the first week of training, so he has to get back into the rhythm, but it’s good to have him back.

"We lost Will, and we lost Ama [Naouirou Ahamada] because of the red card, so both are not available and this gives us another option in midfield."

  14. 'We have an obligation to our supporters'published at 15:50 British Summer Time 17 May

Sheff Utd v Tottenham (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Sheffield United

Finally from Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder on their ambitions for final game: "We have to be incredibly competitive. We are up against a team going for something, but we still have a lot to play for.

"No white flag regardless of league positions. We have a lot play for either individually or as a team, players playing for futures and other clubs will be watching our players.

"We have an obligation to the league and also, most importantly, an obligation to our supporters.

"Give it one more go. That is all they want to see, players having a right go for the football club and wearing that shirt with pride.

"We want to go and win the game and that has to be our starting point, being as competitive as we possibly can be."

  15. 'We have to make sure we are getting value for money'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 17 May

Sheff Utd v Tottenham (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder on deadline for players offered a contract: "Every one will have individual circustances wrapped around it.

"John Egan coming back to full fitness, we want to reward him and want to keep him but we have to make sure from physical point of view he is okay. There is no sentiment, we have to make sure we are getting value for money too.

"'l'll respect some of these players will have opportunities to speak to other clubs. I wont be ridiculously harsh on them but there will be a cut off time on them. I will be firm on that and if we lose players we lose players.

"Players have to be all in next year and that is what I will demand from players. But out of respect for players, they deserve that opportunity. If we can come to some agreement with players we are offering contracts to I'm sure they will want to stay and be a part of that journey."

  16. 'Get a pint out of a half pint'published at 15:44 British Summer Time 17 May

Sheff Utd v Tottenham (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder on getting the most out of the departing players: "[It is] what we will always try to do, get a pint out of a half pint, squeeze it as you say, overachieve as we have done massively.

"From myself and the coaches helping the players, but most importantly, it is them and their attitude and their love for the football club that shone through. That is why, when players get negatively criticised and positively praised, there is a reason for it and all the boys can be proud of their contribution."

On difficulty of replacing them with money: "When people say you haven’t sold a player for £10m, £15m or £20m, but there is a different contribution. It is contribution of games, appearances, achievements as well.

"Their price, what we got out of them is 10-fold what we paid for them."

Sheff Utd v Tottenham (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder on Chris Basham, George Baldock, Oliver Norwood, Wes Foderingham and Max Lowe all leaving the club: "Difficult decisions to make but ones we have to make and I have to make as manager.

"Was really important that us as a football club got it right, how we did it and timing and everyone getting opportunity to show appreciation for the five players.

"Incredible memories with them, working with them, leading with them and what they have contributed to the club.

"Outstanding servants, but the club has to move on. We will all reflect in an important way they positive contribution to the club."

Arsenal v Everton (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss Sean Dyche on Dele: "We'll see, my aim and I've spoken to him endlessly about it is to get him back on the pitch, get him smiling and getting him enjoying it again, because he's had a real tough time. It became clear in his personal life, but that is well and truly parked. He looks good in himself, he seems well in himself. On the training pitch, he looks like he's moving well.

"It's about getting him back going, getting him playing with a smile again. First of all getting him back playing of course, but enjoying it, love of the game, that's the end goal I've spoken to him about. He's a top player when he's fully fit and running."

  20. 'That's our aim, to go down there and play well'published at 15:34 British Summer Time 17 May

Arsenal v Everton (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss Sean Dyche on the environment at Arsenal: "I don't know, I think that's been bubbling there for a while now. I expect it to be the same, the energy that a crowd brings in such a game, the event, the onus and focus will be on them, quite obviously and rightly so, after the season they're having and they've still got a chance. Who knows in football. We're certainly not there for anything other than to perform and to compete. That's our aim, to go down there and play well."
