Football Australia has suspended three A-League players following allegations of betting corruption.

"This is very troubling news for the Australian football community and beyond," Football Australia CEO James Johnson said.

"The conduct that has been alleged has no place in our game. We will do everything we can to get to the bottom of it and no stone will be left unturned."

New South Wales (NSW) police have charged three players, and allege a senior player took instructions from an "organised crime figure currently offshore in South America", to arrange for yellow cards to occur during games in exchange for money.

It is alleged bookings were manipulated on 24 November and 9 December 2023.

Police did not name the players arrested on Friday but said they belonged to a south Sydney club.

  10. White says finish to WSL title race is 'absolutely crazy'published at 12:01 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Ellen White
Former Chelsea and Manchester City striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast

"It's wild, no-one anticipated Liverpool to beat Chelsea, for Arsenal to beat City when they had it in their grasp, then Chelsea to win 8-0 to get that goal difference advantage. It is absolutely crazy and such an exciting end to the season. It's all down to one game, it's amazing."

On which of her former clubs she wants to win the WSL title: "I'm the neutral here! I just love football."

  11. 'Hayes deserves another trophy'published at 11:57 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former Chelsea captain Katie Chapman on the WSL final day: "For the neutral fan it's amazing. When you're going into those games it is hard as a player, thinking you need to score plenty of goals on the Man City side, and for Chelsea knowing you cannot lose. It's going to be really tricky."

On Emma Hayes: "She deserves to get her hands on another trophy, over 12 years she has built Chelsea up. This season has been tough, it has been a tough couple of months. I think scheduling, they played eight games over a month which is a lot for a team. Injury have played a part. But now it's back in their hands, hopefully they can win it.

"She has been there a long time, won every domestic trophy she possibly can. It's time for her to move on, and change possibly will be good, for someone new to come in and take Chelsea in a different direction."

Her prediction: "I think Chelsea will take it - they have been given a second chance, they are serial winners, they have been in this situation many, many times, for that reason they will be confident."

  12. Title rivals 'just have to focus on what they can control'published at 11:55 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Ellen White
Former Chelsea and Manchester City striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast

On what it is like to play in a final-day decider: "You're going to be nervous, they just have to focus on what they can control - their own performance and trying to win the game, it's about each team trying to get three points and then it's about goal difference. Whether they will be told how many goals they need on the sidelines I don't know. You will be thinking about the other game, but first and foremost you have to focus on beating Manchester United or Aston Villa.

"I remember one last game of the season, I was playing for Man City at West Ham, over the tannoy they gave away Chelsea's score - we were all really annoyed! Maybe Villa need to do that.

Her prediction: "It is in Chelsea's hands, but it is a tough one playing Manchester United. I think City will beat Villa, it could come down to goal difference then."

  13. Chelsea's journey 'the most satisfying piece' of Hayes tenurepublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes on what will give her the greatest pride from her time at the club: "It is hard to always think about the past, especially 12 years ago. But going from nothing, an unranked team that were close to relegation, had no facilities, no players, I think the journey is probably the most satisfying piece of that.

"People would like to pick holes in the things you don't do but what we've achieved is remarkable given the starting point. To get the respect and be part of a club who bought into that I'm probably most proud of that. Winning is just as important but I don't think the winning will be my lasting memory."

  14. 'Man Utd fans are tough on Skinner'published at 11:50 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes on final-day opponents Manchester United: "They're deserving of winning the FA Cup, I'm really happy for Marc [Skinner, United manager]. I think he's demonstrated that he's learned with each year what you need to do to win trophies.

"I think his fanbase are really tough on him. He's brought a first piece of silverware to that club and he got booed. Managers deserve more than that. They won't want to watch someone winning a title on their patch and demonstrate how is this just the beginning for them."

  15. Hayes wants Chelsea women to play every game at Stamford Bridgepublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes on what she hopes her legacy will be: "When I see Arsenal announce that they've got 11 home games at the Emirates, this should be happening here. I want to see us playing at Stamford Bridge, sold out every week.

"I want the girls to have a new facility, I want that to continue to be upgraded. I want them to continue to have a voice. I want them to put the legacy into the walls but through the eyes of players, not mine. I want them to be heard. I want them to never stop asking what we can do better. Do it again, but do it with class and keep it into the Chelsea fanbase with the way that they have."

  17. 'I wouldn't change a single thing'published at 11:44 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes on her final week in charge: "We all know I'm the sort of coach who wants to be as professional as I can until the end. I meant what I said, I want to have a great training session. We get to hopefully play in front of a close to sold out crowd at Old Trafford. We get the opportunity to train so hard to be in with a shout of a title on the last day. I'm just extremely proud of the efforts of everyone to put us in this position."

On how difficult it is: "I had my last drive into work today, my office is already cleared out, it's my last coaching session with a group I've built strong bonds with. Staying on top of emotion is something I'm really good at.

"But I wouldn't change a single thing and I am so delighted to get one more training session with my team and one more game and I know for sure I'm going to enjoy it."

  18. 'We're accustomed to being in this position'published at 11:42 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes on whether her leaving is extra inspiration for the final game: "I think we're accustomed to being in that position. Everybody knows what's at stake. We've had a lot of winning so I don't really think the pressure is on us. I want to leave with another title but I know for the players that for me the most important thing is we stick together and continue to demonstrate why we've always had the resilience to be at the top end come the end of the season."

On whether her comments a few weeks ago about only having a 'small chance' of winning the WSL were mind games: "If I was to ask you what the odds were at 88 minutes [of Manchester City v Arsenal] of Chelsea winning the title, they'd be very slim. I felt everything was there for City to win and they didn't so left that door ajar. It wasn't mind games in that moment."

  19. Top of WSL table heading into final daypublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 17 May

Man Utd v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Manchester United could still snatch a top-four finish in the Women's Super League but they finish the season at home to defending champions Chelsea, who are top of the table on goal difference.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes is leaving to become the new coach of the US women's national team and the Blues hope to give her a winning send-off.

They will aim to beat United at Old Trafford and hope that Manchester City don't score enough goals away to Aston Villa to wipe out their current two-goal deficit.
