That old Blackburn connection, eh? Worked a charm at the weekend. A lot was made of John Eustace going back to what he knows best and lifting three players from Ewood Park in the summer.

It paid dividends as Derby County ruined West Brom's Hawthorns hurrah on the stadium's 125th birthday.

Captain Lewis Travis was so busy in midfield. Constantly coaxing and corralling his team-mates into position and demanding the standards that delivered a first Championship clean sheet.

While much of the credit must go to goalkeeper Jacob Zetterstrom, the headlines were snatched by Andi Weimann for his cool, classy winner.

Eustace worked with Weimann at Blackburn and knew just what the wily Austrian would add in his first full season with Derby.

He'll now hope his experienced ally has kickstarted the Rams' so far stuttering season.

Swansea head coach Alan Sheehan said:

"It's very disappointing, the manner of the equaliser. Seven [added] minutes was a long time to add on but ultimately we only played in patches today.

"I will not hide from that. First half was very comfortable. We were comfortable without doing a whole lot.

"But we conceded more chances today than we have in the last four games – that's not like us.

"Defensively, the longer the game went on we dropped, dropped, dropped. We tried to see out the game but we didn't do that. We take the point and there is loads to improve on."

Hull City came from behind twice to earn a point at Swansea in a 2-2 draw.

Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was full of emotions - we played very well, especially in the second half," said Jakirovic.

"Second half we started very well but conceded from a counter-attack goal which is very frustrating but we didn't surrender which is very good.

"In the end we got the reward because we didn't deserve to lose the game."

Norwich boss Liam Manning told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"Hugely disappointing to concede so late like we did but I think when you reflect on the performance level against a well-established side that are ahead of us in terms of time together, ultimately it's not a bad point to take on the road.

"We performed a lot better against Middlesbrough and lost. Disappointed not to get more but when you step back and look at it, I think it's a good point.

"I thought we defended the box terrifically well. In terms of the fight, the spirit and the desire to give everything, there was a strong foundation to grow."

Coventry boss Frank Lampard told BBC Radio CWR:

"It was a fantastic performance from the team from minute one. The only thing that was lacking was the win because it was just one of those days.

"Barring the natural disappointment from not getting the three points, I'm really proud of the players.

"I watched us when we played Norwich before I got the job here and, in my research, they had a lot of the ball. For me, the positive thing is to see the way that we played today and we're progressing."

[On nine minutes of additional time] - "It's frustrating when the game gets broken up as much as it does but I understand it. We were told it was nine minutes, I haven't got a calculator through the second half but we scored and then there was a little break in play and the game stopped on exactly 99 minutes.

"But when I see the way we're playing - I'm happy and we need to continue with that, keep fighting."

Stoke are up to second place in the Championship as Bosun Lawal's first league goal for the club won the game against Birmingham City

Potters boss Mark Robins has been talking to BBC Radio Stoke:

“I thought we were really good - I thought we started off really well, high intensity, and we carried that through, particularly in the first half, I thought we were outstanding," said Robins.

“In the second half, things changed a little bit. Turnover of possession was a little bit more frequent, but that was when both sides start to tire.

“The only criticism I’ve got is we get the ball around the edge of their penalty area, we break away and we are doing that to create the space to shoot and we don’t – we turn it down.

"It becomes very frustrating, we can shoot, we’ve got players who can score goals, that’s the only thing. Move the ball, find the space, shoot."

West Brom did almost everything right on Saturday - like a police force perfectly lining up a home raid, only to forget the battering ram.

There is so much to like about the new-look Baggies under Ryan Mason this season. The three behind the striker possess a blend of skill, poise and experience. They move so well and create good chances - but they need that striker to put the ball in the net.

Aune Heggebo has had a tough start at The Hawthorns. He's only had five shots in five Championship games with just one on target.

Baggies fans clearly like him, and will hope he takes confidence from his recent international call up with Norway.

While no one is expecting a Smethwick Erling Haaland, the Baggies will know promotion hopes from this sticky league usually hang on a striker that can deliver the goods.

Post-match reaction from the manager, the players and you.

Oxford United boss Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Oxford:

When asked if felt like a point dropped against a side who played over an hour with 10 men, he said: "A little bit. But think if you look at that result against a former Premier League side, and one with lots of Premier League quality players and athletes, then I'd say overall you would be reasonably happy with a 2-2. But with the way the game goes, you always react to that.

"I thought we started the game fantastically well, I think for 25 minutes 11 v 11 we were the better side. We played really well and built on that Coventry performance, and I was really encouraged by that.

"We scored the early goal, then we made a mistake to let them back in it before having a little bit of fortune with the second goal, but nevertheless it comes off the back of a lot of pressure and good control.

"I'm disappointed with the second goal [conceded]. It was clinical from their perspective, but it was a giveaway from ours. It's those little moments that we need to have a little bit more to win there games."

He's been giving his reaction to BBC Radio WM:

"I think anyone watching the game will say we didn't deserve to lose it when conceding your first shot on target in the 25th minute.

"We created numerous chances but it didn't go our way which happens.

"Obviously I and the players are hurting at the moment but that's football, you have to try to improve, accept it and work hard in the week to turn it around.

Bristol City moved up to third after cruising to a 3-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday and boss Gerhard Struber has been talking to BBC Radio Bristol:

"It was super important that we saw a professional workflow in our game today and the attitude was on the level to bring us in this direction.

"We scored very quickly and it gave us a big belief, but I want to speak about the match plan and how we executed the match plan today.

"I would say this was a 100% point and in this direction I think the boys did a great job against a tough opponent.

"In the end we could have scored more goals, in the end we have a clean sheet, we have many chances on our side and I don't think they had a shot on target, so we stay stable, a clean sheet, many chances, goals, that's what we want.

"It was a long time ago that Bristol City won in this stadium, now I think was the right time to do it."

Birmingham City suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time since April 2024 as they went down 1-0 at Stoke.

Blues boss Chris Davies has been talking to BBC Radio WM:

"You expect it to be a tough start here and we weren't good enough in the first 20 minutes or half an hour and it cost us the game," said Davies.

"Very rarely have I seen us as passive and soft as that in the opening periods of a game - there weren't enough blue shirts winning second balls and in the duels.

"It was all us in the second halF without turning that possession and dominance into meaningful chances."

On losing two games in a row:

"It's not a surprise to me how tough the Championship was going to be but we have to make sure we don't lose too much heart from it and learn."

They always say don’t leave a game early, and the Coventry fans who left minutes before full-time might regret missing Haji Wright’s 96th minute toe-poke on the line to grab a draw.

However, it’s hard to blame them, as it looked like they were never going to get anything out of the match, despite dominating possession and opportunities to score.

Some great stops by Norwich keeper Vladan Kovacevic denied them three times, and their magic sponge did a double shift for a few cramp-laden Norwich players to tamper with Coventry’s tempo.

Swansea will feel disappointed as they controlled large parts of the game and held the lead until so late. That said, fans will feel that they have a squad that can push for the top six.

Malick Yalcouye, 19 and on loan from Brighton, showed his potential as he started instead of injured Marko Stamenic.

Sitting in midfield, he looked to drive forward with the ball at his feet, with pace and strength, on each possible occasion.

He provided the assist for Zan Vipotnik’s opening goal and was at the centre of the attack that lead to Roanld’s goal.

Drawing what the Hull defenders must have believed to be a foul that the referee had whistled for but hadn’t. As they stood like statues, Inoussa crossed, Ronald tapped in unopposed.

Yalcouye will have a big part to play in Swansea’s season.

Substitute Andreas Weimann came on to score the winner for Derby at West Brom and boss John Eustace has been talking to BBC Radio Derby:

"I think it was the perfect away performance - we didn't want to be as deep as we were in the first half but we defended the box really well," said Eustace.

"We pushed up another 10 or 15 yards in the second half and that performance was really pleasing.

"It's about the squad, it was great to get Andi (Weimann) on and he can always put the ball in the net.

On naming Lewis Travis as the team's new captain:

"Lewis Travis is a natural leader - a fantastic professional who leads by example.

"Ebs (Ebou Adams) did a great job as captain and he'll now be vice captain and I spoke to him and told him what I was going to do and he was totally on board with it."

Leicester City played more than an hour with 10 men but still managed a 2-2 draw at Oxford United at lunchtime.

Foxes boss Marti Cifuentes told BBC Radio Leicester:

“We will never be satisfied with a point. I was not happy with the way we started the game and conceded two goals.

"What I value is the second half, and the personality that the players showed. We were the ones closer to scoring a second goal.”

On the red card for debutant Aaron Ramsey:

“Refereeing is very difficult. Today is one of those days. It’s better if I cut my tongue and don’t speak much today. We spoke about some situations, but it is something I do often.”

    Millwall manager Alex Neil:

"Half-time was probably the angriest I've been since I've been here – because we were rubbish in the first half. It was the basics we were short on.

"The sending off-helped but the turning point in our favour was when we went an extra man in the middle and took a striker off. We got a foothold in the game.

"It's a constant dilemma I've had to fight against. Last season playing a front two paid huge dividends for us. But having another midfielder out there made us look more dangerous.

"We deserved our goal. We know we can play better. If you're not playing at your best then the one thing is to make sure you don't lose.

"There is still a bit of frustration for me because we should've played better in the first half."

    Charlton Athletic

    Media caption,

The manager reflects after the 1-1 draw at home with BBC's Louis Mendez

Charlton boss Nathan Jones: "I'm proud of the performance because it took a red card for us to draw the game. We were comfortable and I didn't see us conceding today.

"Once we got the goal I just wanted to get the next one, which we couldn't do. It was going to take something – like a set-play or a moment of madness to concede and we got a moment of madness.

"When you are on a booking and you lunge in then you know you are risking something. You have to be cleverer than that. Top defenders stay on their feet and make people work for something – when they go to ground, it is a last resort or they know they can win it.

"It is a learning curve for him. He's a young boy and he has so much ability, he has been outstanding for us. That was categorically the turning point.

"We should have had six points from our last two home games but we took one. We're comfortable at the level."
